Resina di filtrazione organica Seachem Purigen - Acqua dolce e salata 250 ml 250 millilitri

Brand:Seachem

3.8/5

40.12

Works on Tannins!
I purchased some pieces of malaysian driftwood which released tannins into my tank turning it into black tea color. After reading some online articles, people were recommending boiling and/or soaking the wood to release most, if not all, of the tannins. Additionally, it was recommended to do water changes until the wood stops releasing tannins over time. So I tried this... This advice was a bunch of nonsense. I boiled the driftwood on 3 separate occasions for at least 2-3 hours each. Afterwards, I soaked the wood in hot water overnight. I put the wood in the tank and boom, back to the tea color. I was disappointed because I wanted driftwood in the tank but I didn't want any discoloration of the water. I was resigned to the fact I would have to remove the wood. I somehow stumbled upon people mentioning purigen to remove tannins. So i tried this. Absolutely works ????. Within a couple of days it started to get noticeably clearer and within a week the tannins were gone. I checked the purigen and it had turned dark brown (it's white when its new). At this point I'll have to either try the recharging process or buy new. This stuff works.

I'm Amazed!
After 35 years of having both saltwater and freshwater tanks I finally decided to try this chemical. My planted freshwater aquarium has crystal clear water like I've never seen! And that means less algae. The first thing I noticed was how much brighter my lighting is. It's lighting up the entire room because the water is so clear! I was wrong to keep things natural for so long. This product changed my mind about chemical filtration forever!

Seachem Purigen killed everything in our aquarium when regenerating the Purigen beads
Unfortunately you have to be very careful as you need to fully understand the instructions on regenerating the Purigen. I used the regular household bleach from one of the big supermarkets chains mixed 1:1 with water and despite using more than enough Seachem Prime and Discus Buffer for more than enough time afterwards and then placing the Purgen and "The Bag" that did not smell of bleach back in the aquarium filter, the next morning it had killed everything in the aquarium including all fish and snails. I corresponded with Seachem Support and their advice was "recommend using a regular 8.25% hypochlorite household bleach (non-scented, no dyes, do not use a splash-less bleach). Prime and Safe are capable of removing Sodium hypochlorite, and thats it, which is why we recommend a regular hypochlorite bleach. Unfortunately, based on Tesco's website, all of their Tesco brand house hold bleaches are "thick bleach". We never recommend using thick bleach, or scented bleach that contains perfumes because viscous bleach is viscous/thick because some type of additive has been added to make it thick, typically a surfactant (aka soap/some type of detergent). Step number 2, soaking in prime:water solution, is intended to remove the chlorine and chloramine from the bleach:water solution in step 1, so it will remove sodium hypochlorite but Prime and Safe will not remove the additives that are not bleach." Conclusion Seachem advise using a regular household bleach, just not the household thick bleach with purfume which they sell in the shops in the UK, it might help if they could advise where to specifically purchase the bleach. Well thanks for the clarification now Seachem-well who's going to compensate my family for all the upset, time and money wasted, clearly not Seachem!

WARNING Don't let this product dry out in between use!!
Bought beginning of the year and split it so I could have one bag in and one bag out, because regeneration takes ~48hrs. I followed the regeneration instructions to what is written on the packaging. HOWEVER, it says nothing about storing in-between uses and that the Purigen media SHOULD NOT be allowed to dry out, hence why this is not a 5 star review (the product itself is amazing and works). Both lots have only been regenerated once and the Purigen is disintegrating and falling through media bags. There is reviews on the forums where people have had issues and they were told the product when not in use must be left moist/in water by Seachem administrators. This vital information is completely absent from the packaging and their website (it's only listed somewhere on Q&As). I wasted £18, that I will have to spend again because I can't risk it dispersing round my external filter or sandy substrate. I have emailed Seachem directly because this is a product/instructional fault and not the seller's.

Great for overstocked tanks with gravel and plastic plants
Great for an overstocked tank with gravel and plastic plants as this removes ammonia, nitrite and nitrates so its fabulous. However it's not great for fully planted tanks which are understocked as plants need fish waste to grow well. I use this in my low tech plastic set ups and my fish are very healthy but in my planted set up I don't, it also turns everything brown in the planted set up but not in the artificial set up.

I used to think my water was clear...
Before I bought this item I used to think my water was pretty clear. I put this in the tank, next day it was like there the fish were floating! I put a bag of this in my cabinet filter, and then just give it a quick rinse whenever I clean the filter which is around once a month. I regenerate it only once a year and it still working nicely after a year. I've heard reports that it can interfere with fertilizers, but I've not had this issue at all. Plants seem to be growing nicely still, so I can't really say it's caused any problems. Word of warning though, you will have to clean your glass more. It makes algae much more obvious.

Works well
I had set up a 160 gallon fresh water tank in an old Marine Aquarium I had. After about a week I had a massive algae bloom and I did a bit of research and bought this. Tank cleared in about 36 hours. FYI I have the purigen running in a fluid filter.
