Welding is a bit ugly, but it worked for separating two cats during introductions!

I've heard pretty bad things about using baby gates for cats since they can easily hop over them, but was pleasantly surprised that this managed to somehow convince my two cats that this was an insurmountable hurdle as they didn't even try once. Pictured is my 11lb boy in baby jail. As you can see, his head (and body) cannot fit through the gaps. As a bonus, once they'd gotten to a point where they were able to be in the same room without issues, I could even adjust the gate using the adjustable wheels to make the gap between the door and the gate a little bigger, just enough that my smaller 7lb girl could get through if she wanted but my boy still couldn't. Really an unexpected boon there and it came quite in handy for that interim period where we still wanted to keep them more or less separated, until the gate was no longer needed! The locking mechanism worked perfectly but given cats don't have opposable thumbs, it's hard to say whether it'd work just as well for babies and toddlers. It was easy enough to lock/unlock using the swinging lock and the extra lock would probably provide some peace of mind to parents using this for children as it is just a teensy bit trickier to open. Setup was easy enough between two adults who'd never even seen a baby gate in person before, and it fit just right in the doorway to the bedroom. I did find that using it in the doorway to the bathroom made it so that there wasn't enough room for the gate to really fully "expand" and so there wasn't enough space, even when adjusting the knobs all the way, to let even the smaller 7lb cat through the gap she could fit through when the gate was installed in the bedroom doorway. Not a huge issue, but worth noting that doorway size does seem to make a significant difference in the width of the gaps between the railings — enough so that one door frame swap was the difference between a cat being able to get through versus not being able to. An unexpected hazard was that I did trip over the bottom railing many, many times while it was installed, so would warn that is something to keep in mind for the fellow klutzes out there. If you're curvy or larger, you might also find your hips getting caught sometimes going through. We didn't find it to be debilitating by any means, but could be annoying for the right (wrong?) person. My one very trivial issue is that the welding is just a bit...ugly. The product images don't really showcase it, but there's lots of little spots that look untidy, for lack of a better word. They don't seem to negatively impact the effectiveness of the gate at all but I was taken aback by how some of the spots where joints meet looked. Not sure if that's typical of baby gates or not. This worked beautifully for our needs and if we ever adopt another kitty, we will definitely be whipping this back out. Highly recommended for cats (at least ones that aren't the hopping type)!!!

Thoughtful design, well engineered protective, adaptable, door fence.

At first, the multiple components seem a little overwhelming until you realize you really need to concentrate to get this right. After looking over the description in the appropriate language, We started out by laying out all the major components on the bed and taking it one step at a time. Determination and necessity won out. Once it was together, we put in the four expansion screws and centered the gate middle of the challenged doorway. Once centered we secured this beautiful gate. Then spent a bit of time admiring the beauty and effectiveness of our new gate! Puppies really would prefer our bed but reality really requires some limits! Well worth it!

Fantastic Gate, Easy Set Up and keeps the dogs out!

I had a smaller baby gate that my dogs figured out how to jump over so I was in dire need of something taller and that I could leave up all the time. After looking at reviews thought I would give this one a try and I am so glad I did !! It fits perfectly in my door frame and was easy to install got it done in 15 minutes. Now I don't have to worry about my beast going wild in my bedroom while I'm at work. This has been a lifesaver for me!!

Sturdy & Easy Installation

We bought this gate so houseguests don’t have to deal with our senior cat invading their sleeping space and to keep our HVAC system working more efficiently by having the guest bedroom door open during the day. This gate is the (almost) perfect solution. Our kitty can’t jump over the gate and the airflow is much better in our small home. This gate was packed well, is easy to install and seems quite sturdy. The only design flaw of this taller gate is that we can’t center the tension rods on the door jamb because they get in the way of the door knob, so we’ll install the wall cups to keep the gate precisely in place while allowing the door to be closed.

Great for puppies

I bought this to keep my rescue pup from escaping our living room while crate and house training. She can climb latticed playpen gates or lift them and get past because they’re very light. This is great because the horizontal bars keep her from climbing and it’s tall enough she doesn’t try to push or jump over. I didn’t need to install the wall mount cups. I might have to when she’s older and larger.

dog gate

I use this gate to keep my dog from going into my bedroom. Even though he figures out a way to knock it down that's because I haven't placed the parts that goes on the door frame, due to not wanting to drill more holes since I live in an apartment. My dog only does that when, I'm in my room getting ready to go to sleep, lol. But other than that, its very sturdy.

Glad we spent a little more

We needed a dog gate, we considered buying the cheaper version, but so glad we bought this one instead. Takes a minute to figure out the install process, we needed to adjust it a few times. The cheaper options don't have a swing door, but it's so worth it! Makes our life much easier. The height is also nice, the biggest dog in the picture is 100 lb. lab mix, so we needed it.

Keeps My Small Cat Behind the Gate

I have a small cat, under 6 lbs., who cannot fit through this gate. It's plenty tall enough to keep her from jumping over (or even trying). Installation was very easy. It comes w/ all the fixtures you need, including a small Allen wrench to tighten the two screws. Very easy for one person to put together in about 10 minutes. We use the pressure mounts, they're stable enough. Perfect for a cat or small/medium dog. We're careful about not putting too much pressure on the gate when we open/close and pass through; though it's made of metal, it's not a gate you'd want to push on or lean against. The latch is okay (plastic) and while it is possible to open with one hand, it's a little tricky. You also have to be careful not to trip on the bottom horizontal bar when passing through, which is a bit of a tripping hazard. You have to step over it. It's also somewhat narrow. I usually pass through at an angle so I don't accidentally bump into one side of the gate. It's not perfect, but it is secure and as long as we're careful, it will serve our needs.

Very good

We got his for our medium sized dog and it works perfectly as it's the right height she can't jump over it without a lot of effort, if she stands up then her head if just over but that's fine for us. The lock can either be put down normally or locked down meaning you have to pull back a piece of plastic to open it. ( good if you are using it for kids as they can't simply just lift it up)

Cockapoo proof!

This is a superb gate at a superb price, it's the only one that's kept our naughty cockapoo puppy behind bars!! But there again it's nearly as big as me! Came with an extender piece which with other more expensive gates is an additional purchase! Although it fitted our kitchen doorway perfectly, highly recommend

Nice gate, finnicky latch

Good quality, not difficult to install, with a finnicky latching system. BUT.. Be advised.. This gate will NOT fit most Canadian stairways. Average width in Canada, is between 43-45 inches. This gate is 39.5 inches, and the extension pins will make the gate weak (flimsy), if fully extended. Hence, measure the area you wish to install exactly, before purchasing. Or be prepared to install 2x4s (or similar) on your walls, at your cost and time. There are other wider gates available, and some at better prices, here on Amazon. Remember... measure up before buying.

Not that safe

Narrow gate and does not take much for a toddler to unfix. It's probably best for a small dog or crawling baby that has no intention or too lazy to escape but giving you that little bit of security.

Great product, (used for dog gate)

Bought this as a internal dog gat for our lounge. Good product, easily put together and installed in the doorway in a few minutes. Seems quite strong, latch at the top easy to lift up. Very good price.
