Beautiful light for the front portch.

Replaced an original 1970's era ceiling light on the porch with this fixture. Looks fantastic. Very satisfied with quality and ease of installation. The box included the correct mounting bracket for existing junction box and 3 wire nuts. I bought clear bulbs that just make it sparkle. Progress Lighting is a name that's been around and trusted by professionals in the US lighting market for a long time.

Lots of light but precariously held together

I love the look of this light, and it's a great accent in my living room. That said, be careful when installing this one. The center bolt that extends down through the octogonal globe is a little short, and as far as I can tell can't be adjusted to be longer. I was barely able to screw the end cap on the bolt that holds the globe in place. In fact, I could only turn it half a turn onto the bolt, so it was very precariously held together. You can't over tighten these kinds of lights, because only 4 of the 8 panes of glass touches the base, and if you over tighten the nut, it will actually cause those panes to break away from other four that have a 1/2 inch space between the bottom of the pane and the base. Once this happens, the light globe is ruined. I learned this the hard way when I overtightened the same light for my mother. When I bought one for my own living room, instead over over tighteing it, I took the metal ring that sits between the end nut and the glass globe (holding the globe in place) and I flattened it a little bit with a hammer. The ring was originally a little more than 1/4 of an inch thick. After flattening out the center a little bit, it gave me more room to tighten the nut down without cracking the globe casing. I was able to get two solid turns of the nut, which is enough to hold the globe safely. If you find yourself in the same short-bolt scenario, use this approach and don't over-tighten it.

Great looking lights!

I am so tired of the "boob lights". These are great replacement for a hallway. Bright enough but not blinding with 4x 25watt equivalent bulbs, also via Amazon. The refraction from the glass of the light is also pretty. After installing the second one of these I'm dropping 1 star. This is because there is barely enough threading on the two I received to attach the round "nut" that holds the glass and decorative piece to the center post. Beyond that the look of these are still great. There is not away to adjust this without having the threads visible at the top.

Amazon to the rescue

Had an older (but different) unit self-destruct in a nice scorching flash. Internal wiring of that unit had become so brittle that a wire had snapped in half and was only making touch contact. Big box hardware stored had nothing similar, but since I have two other octagonals in the same area (luckily also not the same as the one that failed) finding a close match was important to the décor. Took less than a minute to find this on Amazon and it was delivered in less than a day (Prime member). Installation was quick and easy and the unit works fine.

Like The Light But They Should Provide A Better Multi-purpose Mounting Bracket

We really like this light. The only thing that kept me from giving it a 5-star rating was that the mounting bracket in the package did not give the flexibility to turn the light to adjust the alignment. I used the bracket from my old light. Also, make sure you use the round candelabra bulbs, not the elongated bulbs as they will not fit.

Looks Great! Performance - not so much.

When I ordered this light, I ordered two because I liked the looks of it so much. Once they both were installed, they lit up my hallway and foyer nicely. However, after approximately six months, three of the bulbs in one of the lights quit working. I thought - Ok, I've got three burned out light bulbs. My husband replaced the (assumedly) burned out bulbs with other working bulbs from the same light. Those lights did not work in those sockets. He then took the (assumedly) burned out bulbs and put them the sockets that we knew to be functioning properly and those bulbs lit up as well. So, now, I have a light fixture that only half works. I'd like to to try to get it replaced with a working light but can't seem to find a way to request a replacement short of buying a new one. On a positive note, it's been almost a year since I purchased and installed these lights. The other one is still working beautifully (with original bulbs).
