UPDATED REVIEW: Avoid If You Can

UPDATE: I try not to leave scathing reviews, but this product is rather poor. Since the install, the housing has not moved at all. I went to use the shower today and found the door ajar. With a quick look at the latch, I could see that the clasp was pushed all the way into the housing and stuck. I had to finagle it out with an o-ring pick. I fiddled with it for a minute and found that I could replicate the problem by pressing the clasp in to where the rounded nose passed the edge of the housing, allowing the clasp to rock and get stuck inside. So... for those who must buy this as a replacement, since options are fairly limited: when mounting it on your door, make sure the clasp isn't so close to the doorframe that the nose of the clasp will be pressed nearly flush with the housing of the latch. You may find yourself having to dig the clasp from inside the latch. If you can afford it, I would recommend considering the nylon replacement latch (as others have also noted here), although that latch runs closer to $15 (as of this writing). I'll leave the review at 2 stars rather than 1 because once installed in the sweet spot, it does function mostly as it should. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW: I replaced a broken latch on my aluminum-framed shower door. This item seemed to be a direct replacement for the one that was removed. The spring looks the same, the nylon clasp looks the same, the housing appears the same. It was very easy to install and I didn't have to bend or fidget with the product to get it to fit properly. I was particularly careful to make sure the housing was square to the jamb of the door so that the jamb didn't make skewed contact with the clasp. I would imagine that a misaligned installation could affect the function of the spring or wear down the clasp more quickly.

It didn’t fit , too height to latch the shower door

It looks similar to original latch but this one is taller and it won’t latch the door

I removed the old shower door lock and replaced it with this one. This one works better than the original one that came with the door.

Perfect replacement

Reading the reviews I was a bit hesitant to order this item, but figured I had very little to lose. Upon receiving it, I compared it with my old one, whose nylon tip finally broke after over 50 years of use. The specs and dimensions matched exactly. The only difference was that the new one has a thicker and stronger spring and that the screws are a tad thinner. I spent more time examining and comparing the two than the time it took me to install the new one. So far it works flawlessly. If it lasts half as long as the first one, it will out last me, so I won't have any reason to complain. I did take away 1 Star because the casing/shell has a bit of scuffing. However, I purchased it for its functionality not for its cosmetic looks. For those reviewers who complain that it gave them a hard time and that it doesn't work to their liking, I suppose they are neither too handy, nor attended the "school of jack of all trades, but masters of none".

Cheap

Unusable out of the box!!! Had to twist the metal, grind the metal edges so it won't stick. Sandpapered the plastic latch, and lots of lubricant.

Junk

Was stuck on finding one of these - no choice on the market. Bought it despite the low ratings and it was trash. Spring pops out none stop and wasn't even close to lining up properly with the catch, don't even think about it! Very flimsy metal, just worked with my original to make it last a little longer while I find an alternative.
