Good product but gate is unique

Been using this exhaust gates for many years. This one is great quality, but has a unique feature. When gate is closed, it has a portion of the gate plate (with hole) sticking below. This can be a problem if you dont have clearance below. While drawing is correct, it also needs to show the 'open' portion when gate is closed. Would buy agin if I have the clearance.

I had the plastic gates and they kept getting clogged in the gate grooves. These work fantastic and easy to lock open or closed. Easy to install too!

Deceiving Product Pictures

What the pictures don't show, in fact show incorrectly, is when the gate is closed, the bottom of the gate sticks out the bottom side. This means it cannot be mounted on a wall with the gate facing out, nor can it sit on the floor with the gate facing up. The third picture in the description shows the gate being closed with nothing sticking out of the bottom. It still works just fine, just not what it was advertised to be.

Airflow restricted due to bad design! Gate is also backwards!

When opened to 100% the airflow is constricted by at least 10%. Not only does this reduce CFM but it introduces pressure differential zones in the airflow. Neither is conducive to maximum flow! Why would they intentionally make this thing to constrict the air flow?!? They could have simply made the gate open all the way! I was able to fix this in 5 minutes on my mill. The first image is what you get out of the box. As you can see the gate piece cannot go all the way down into the body because the little nub has nowhere to go. With a small modification you can fix it as shown, by adding a notch into the frame with a 5/16" endmill, to a depth of approximately 3/16", thereby allowing the gate to recede all the way down. But why should I have to do this myself?!? Why cant the manufacturer make this simple procedure part of the process? They could probably just add this notch into the mold and not even have to add a milling step. It blows my mind why they would think this is acceptable, in a product where maximum air flow is paramount. Make no mistake, that little bit of metal in the path of the airflow DOES matter! Especially if you use multiple gates, or have bends in your tubing, or long runs of tube. All those things add up! Every little thing reduces airflow and the goal is to have a minimal amount of reductions in the system. This however is a completely unnecessary loss of flow, due simply to lazy engineers who thought we would not notice or care. From looking at other reviews, this is a new design, to replace an earlier model that has no such nub. One reviewer wrote: "Terrible. The plate with the hole hanging out the back is unnecessary and get bent as soon as something bumps it. Stupid design. Just put a dimple on the plate so it won't come all the way out and the unsupported hole is no longer needed." LOL. So it looks like they improved on that iteration by adding the dimple, but forgot to give the dimple a place to go. Hopefully the next version will fix this problem. Secondly, a more minor issue, they ship these things with the gate put in backwards. Anyone installing this in a wall, cabinet or a tabletop will have to take it apart and reverse the gate so the little flap thing points out the same way the thumbscrew does, otherwise it simply will not work when going through a surface. Anyway that is a one minute fix and only takes a screwdriver, unlike the aforementioned problem. Besides those two oversights, the product works great! Don't forget a 2" fernco coupling fitting if you are using this with a 2-1/2" vacuum hose, as this is exactly the same size as the hose.

Works good.... one problem though!

I'm working on a dust collection system for my workshop that will gather my router table saw and my mitre saw all with my 5 horsepower Ridgid shop vac. If you see the first photo on my review I need it to seal with silicone the hole that the lid leaves once it's open. Once I sealed this gap, org the product was working real good and as a matter of fact I think it's a great Buy. But it is a flaw in the design that they left this gap between metals. I notice once I installed my system that there was a sound coming from the lid and once I put my hand on it I felt the suction from that gap. I also used 2 inch PVC piping for the rest of my project and once you heat the 2-inch PVC pipe and work with it for a little bit it will fit good and tight. See pictures. Hope this honest comment will help you guys decide whether you want a product or not for me, it worked once I correct the defect.

Terrible design.

These blast gates are terrible. I started out with powertecs plastic blast gate, and within a week I returned them do to the tray where the gate slides clogging with debris. I looked at this product thinking, sturdy, better design and no clogging. Well this product was not better. The blast gates have absolutely no seal. Even if you put tape over the 2.5” opening it still pulls suction through the frame of the blast gate. I didn’t notice that what was happening so I thought I needed a stronger vacuum (higher CFM) . Bought the new vacuum, no change. I took some of the gasket material that the sheet metal workers use to seal ducts and placed it around the edge. Shouldn’t have to make this adjustment to make a product work. Also just a small Critique on the design, face the locking knob and the blast gate tail in the same direction so you can mount them. I had to take apart, rotate, and reassemble all 6 that I bought.

Stay away from these!

You lose way too much suction through the open end with these. I initially had power tech plastic gates but they clog up and lose suction so I got these after researching. On a dust collector it might be ok but on a 2” vac it’s not an acceptable amount of loss. These shouldn’t be offered in this size. DO NOT BUY!

Dimensions différente du modèle en plastique

Si vous achetez ce produit en vous disant je vais remplacé mes portes que j'ai acheté en plastique, ne le faite pas. Les dimensions du trou ne sont pas les mêmes. De plus, la porte ne reste pas ouverte, on doit tourné une vis a chaque utilisation, vraiment pas pratique. Le produit reste très robuste par contre.

Ok product

Not bad, but I'm loosing some air. If you are ok to use some glue and fix some "holes" is a sturdy one. I use a Cyclone before the gate so I have no problem with sawdust been stuck on the gate.

VERY POOR & VERY CHEAP

The flow trap is almost as thin and 2 sheets of paper- two or three uses with minimal force with bend it and render it useless.

Buen producto, pero el aire se escapa por la unión de ambas partes, y por consiguiente la aspiradora pierde poder de succión, estoy viendo como sellar ambas partes para que la pérdida de poder sea mínima.
