90 minutes of use per belt on average
I'm sanding hardwood floors with these using 40 grit in a Makita belt sander. The sander and paper get pretty hot while working. Even the floor gets warm. It's a powerful belt sander. For material removal these are working great. They fit right, and they work as expected. But for durability they are not at all good. I would guess that whatever adhesive they use at the seam can't stand up to the normal operating temperature when using for more than a couple minutes continuously. I've gone through 6 belts after about 9 hours of sanding my floors. I went over the floors with a drum sander with 36 grit first, so it's mostly bare wood at this point and I'm using the belt sander to clean up spots the drum sander didn't do well. Overall I think I've covered about 120 sqft of wood surface using these 6 belts. I'm not even done touching up one small bedroom yet. That's 20 sqft per belt of sanding already stripped wood. I'd say these are ok belts if you are just occasionally running the sander over some furniture for 30 seconds before switching to a less aggressive tool. But if you are running the sander for more than a few minutes at a time, you can expect these to shred long before the grit is at all worn out. My shredded belts mostly look like new other than where they broke at the seam and then tore down the length. In fact I'm keeping them as scraps to use on other projects because the paper is perfectly ok. The worst part is probably that in the process of breaking they usually throw some sparks as they get jammed in some part of the sander, sometimes bounce off the floor leaving a scuff and deep scratches, and most recently have tore up the rubber coating on one side of the powered drum of my sander. So, you might save money buying the belts. But if you are doing floors, expect to lose time and cause damage to your floor and sander. Seems like a bad trade off now that I've experienced it. I should have listened to the poor reviews here instead of the far greater number of "works well for me" that don't give much detail.

Repeatedly tore apart within 5 minutes
Have bought these in the past and they did fine for a smaller belt sander. These did horrible, howerever, and none have stayed together. I bought a 10 pack of 40 grit, 120 grit, 240 grit, and 360 grit. 40 pieces. 2 of the 120 and 5 of the 40 grit have all done the exact same thing. Within 5 minutes of use they tear apart. Sometimes getting jammed up in thr sander. Sometimes they fly apart with a vengeance. The first one i thought maybe i had thr direction wrong but afterwards i checked every single one to be sure. Every one is tearing apart at the tape that holds it together.

Best bang for the buck
They lasted a lot longer than I thought they would. 3M makes the best sand belts but these belts were very comparable. The ends never failed and staid put and didn't slide.

Great value
I needed to strip solid color oil base stain from my front porch. The belts never broke or tore and seemed to last a long time. In matter of fact I saved all used 8 belts. I only changed them because I felt a new belt would be less work on my belt sander. I am not a professional and hit many deck screws.

Durable Sanding Belts at an Affordable Price
I bought these on Amazon after first purchasing a 2-pak of Craftsman belts at Lowe's. On of the two CM belts came apart after using it less than 5 minutes. I received the Powertec belts and noticed the quality right away. I used the first one for over an hour before changing to the second belt. They cut right through the paint on my deck and never broke one. I will be buying this brand again!

best belts out there
these are fantastic. I do heavy duty sanding, and I was shocked that these hold up as good or better than the best belts out there

Exceeded expectation
Performed very well, I was impressed with the durability. Stripped a small-sized deck for a new stain within half a pack of belts. Breakage didn't happen unexpectedly, more broke from abuse than from actual failures.
