Kool Fountain Pump

The pump is being used to send water to a height of about 24 inches inside an outdoor water fountain. It appears to be as good as, if not better than, an Italian pump that it replaced. It may be more efficient than the replaced pump, though the replaced pump continued to function in less deep water that the present pump, possibly because it was smaller. I hope this new pump will function for several years,as the old pump did.

Very good pump for this type

The one thing that is left out of the product description is the maximum height or head that this pump will move water. My application has it lifting water about 3.5 feet and I'm using the larger discharge adapter or the two provided. The flow rate at that height is just over 42 gallons per hour [0.7 gallons per minute (GPM)]. I was replacing a unit rated a 180 GPH so I expected a comparable rate at that height. I saw a complaint about the very small connection in one of the reviews although they don't way what was expected. They do make a good point that the specification doesn't include the sizes. The unit comes with two, the smaller is installed and the second larger one is loose in the box, not in a plastic bag or attached to the cord, pretty much just a shown in the picture. It could easily be overlooked. The adjustable flow is accomplished by twisting the slotted screen from zero to 90 degrees thereby restricting the intake. In the picture the screen is below the discharge pipe at the top of the pump. The cord, not shown in the picture, exits the back. There are four small suction cup type feet on the bottom. Update: I just found that my fountain has a flow restriction device inserted in the pump discharge tubing. That means the flow rate I've measured at 3.5 feet isn't an accurate measure of the pump's lifting capability. Since this pump has an intake adjustment I could use it instead after removing the restrictor.

not bad

I bought this to create a watering station for my honey bees and it works great for that , it doesn't put out a lot force but so far it keeps on ticking. If your looking for a pump for a waterfall or a fountain I would go for a bigger pump.

Absolutely worthless as a fountain pump. Will not pump higher than 20". Finally bought a real fountain pump at Home Depot.

Pumps as expected

Pump was as described, well packaged and promptly delivered. Users should note that 172 gallons per hour is slightly less than 3 gallons per minute - meaning it would take about 20 seconds for this pump to fill a gallon milk jug. And that is at "zero head," that is, without adjusting for the height you want the water to reach - the higher it must push water uphill, the less water it will pump. However, this was more than adequate for our fountain which pumps about two feet up from the intake. As a guess, the water flow was reduced by about half at that height.

Great functional pump

Have had running in my fountain all summer with no issues. Handled algae build up and dirty water without stopping. Great little fountain pump!

It;s been running in my pond 24/7 all summer long for 3 years now. I reach in and swipe the crud off the opening every day and occasionally have to pop it apart to pull crud from the inside if it quits running, about a 5 minute job.

Good pump for the money

I bought the pump for a small lion head fountain. It works perfectly and without any issues. It is pumping water about 12 inches from the bowl to the lion's mouth. I would recommend it.

Adapter is too large in diameter

Adaptor pump came with goes on outtake of pump but is larger in diameter and falls off. It pumps water but I cannot hook it up to the hose on the fountain because the adapter piece won't stay on pump.
