Polar Grit review- 5 star prduct
I’ve been a Polar user since the 90s. I’m also a tech nerd that loves watches. So naturally I was excited to see this new Grit X and purchased it straight away. I mostly mountain bike and swim now when working out outside, so a strong and rugged watch appeals to me ( I unfortunately do go down time to time). First impressions of this watch is that it is very aesthetically impressive. The new big metal buttons and large touch display are a welcome feature. I wear full finger gloves so its nice to be able to easily find the buttons on the go. Watch is comfortable too and noticeably lighter than another brand GPS watch I own. Here are my favorite features of this watch Optical HR sensor. It is extremely accurate. I ride my bike on a smart trainer 2-3 days a week during winter/spring, using the Zwift app. I have a Polar H9 heart rate strap paired to the Zwift app. I can pair this to the Grit X, but did not detect any delta between the HR strap and the optical. On both rides, at various intensities I never saw more than a 1-2 beat delta between the two. Very cool as I like to see my HR, but don’t like to always wear a strap while mountain biking. Hill Splitter. This is a welcome feature for anyone that likes to do hill repeats. No input needed. It senses your ascent, and automatically counts your repeats for you as well as the distance and time of ascent and decent. This worked great two days ago on hill repeat workout on my road bike. This is fun and convenient feature. Screen display and touch features. I like the new display. Very clear and just bright enough. Of course easy to light up with the top left button. I have it on the weather screen all the time. Nice to have winds and temperature right in view. Route guidance. This was something I did not use a watch for until now, but very comfortable using now with the Grit X. I live in Bend Oregon where we have a plethora of trails to explore. If you want an effective way to find a prescribed route, this watch makes it very simple. You will easily stay on your trail/road and know when to turn. Battery life. I did three loooooong workouts in 2 days, had the optical HR, GPS etc. on continuous and still had tons of juice remaining went to charge it. I love all the other features such as swim metrics, sleep stages, and nightly recharge. Just started to use FitSpark and I’ll edit this review after I use it for a few weeks, but looks like another great training tool. All in all this is another great watch from Polar. This watch can do it all and more than my other brand GPS bike computer. It is a personal coach/trainer on your wrist along with the Polar Flow app, and the durability of a G-Shock. I highly recommend this sport watch. 5 Stars.

Keeps me informed of my fitness progress
At the beginning of the COVID lockdown I was fortunate enough to locate a good deal on a new Bowflex Max Trainer M5 on Amazon. But the chest strap HRM was crappy. I then got a Polar H10 HRM chest strap, which was awesome, and exposed me to the online Polar tracking software which is even more awesome. This then prompted me to get this Grit X watch where I could add sleep monitoring and have a more full view of my calorie exertion. For my needs was likely overkill, but wanted a fitness watch with an always on display, I was sold on the Polar ecosystem and this is just a darn good-looking watch. After 3 weeks with this watch I'm very pleased. I like the extended battery life if I were to travel for work (but I have not been), but recharging the watch daily as I read my Polar Flow app takes about 15 minutes or less. I knew before buying this that the HRM function would not be as good as a chest strap. I use the chest strap for my HIIT training when it is important to get real-time results as I approach my heart beat max. The pairing of the watch and chest strap is automatic, look for the circle around the heart rate to turn from green to blue. But I take walks with my dog and longer walks with my wife and despite my living near a country border a block from a large lake my watch has had no issues tracking distance and mapping out routes I have taken. The sleep results seem to be pretty accurate as well. I like the watch face data options and I frequently keep it on the 3 hour weather forecast, which works well. While many have added the "COVID 15" I've actually lost over 15 pounds over the past 2 months. I'm in my 50's but my goal is to get back to my high school weight, so am looking to lose another 40 pounds over the next 9 months. For me, being old and overweight were 2 things I did not want when looking at COVID morbidity statistics, but now between my fitness and diet focus (which I had never done before) I really think I have created a very positive life style change for myself. I added some Barton quick release watch bands and they have worked real well and have added further watch versatility.

Great running watch
Negatives: Great piece of equipment, don't think $480 USD is a fair price given you can buy a high end phone for that much. Why on earth does a wearable with the word 'grit' in the name not come with an included screen protector? Also no built in maps is kinda cheapskate at this price level, common polar. Adventure and 'no maps' just doesn't make sense. Also why does it have a touch screen? Seems like a waste of money when they spent so much time and effort perfecting their button interface. Positives: Mine worked perfectly out of the box, no sensor wonkeyness, never lost GPS signal, active pacing was spot on (what pace your currently at). Looks good. Wrist band is comfortable most of the time (I have small wrists). Battery life is phenomenal, wore it for several days including 5 hours of running and still had charge to spare. Pairing with phone is very simple, the phone app is also pretty good. UI is simple and easy to use and read while running. Screen is very bright and it's auto brightness works perfectly. Love the physical button interface along with the tactile feedback, usefull for running. Touch screen works but I don't know why they included it when the buttons are so nice.

RUGGED, RELIABLE, SIMPLE
I don't normally write reviews on products, but I thought I would for this product due to having very limited experience with sports watches with this being my first one. Pros: Simplicity: its a very easy to navigate watch, with no added extras. Its basically a sports watched stripped back from all the smart watch options. It simply is just a tracking sports watch with no fancy bells or whistles, this is definitely a pro for me as I dont need all of the extra stuff another watch may give you. Reliability: Not to Jinx it, but so far, I have seen the reliability in this watch. It has given me good readings not only on GPS distances but also reliable / believable heart rates. Occasionally it reads a bit high, as when I am resting I have seen it in the 90s, but maybe I am just unfit. The sleep tracking also seems pretty reliable and gives plenty of information and breakdowns on your sleep cycles and patterns, also how many times you were woken in your sleep. Rugged styling: This is the Grit X which is targeted towards the outdoor sports world. It is waterproof, you can run in the rain with it. It will survive being knocked around a bit. App: The polar flow app is very VERY detailed and breaks down multiple readings and stats about your day. I find it easy to understand but potentially a bit overwhelming as there is a lot of information on there. Cons: HR occasionally showing high: Like I said before, Maybe I am just unfit. Not amazingly comfortable for all day use: The watch can make your wrist itchy, but its an easy fix, take the watch off for a while, wipe the back of it, sorted. Manually tell it you are awake: One thing that some people may find annoying regarding sleep tracking, when you are awake, it does not automatically recognise you are awake, and asks you to confirm this. It is literally just one click on the red ringed button to tell it you are awake, so not to much of an issue. Overall: This is a solid watch for any sports enthusiast. It's definitely not on the level of the Garmin Fenix but isn't trying to be, do don't be disappointed. If you want a reliable watch to keep on your wrist day in and day out which will track all of your stats reliably and show it in an easy to break down formula, then this is the watch for you. If you arent 100% sure, then shop around a bit. Coming from me, this is a solid reliable choice not to be easily dismissed.

Love Polar and Love the Grit X
I have always been a Polar user but did look around this time because there are plenty of good quality Sports watches out there for this price. I had the M430 previously and looked at many comparison sites regarding the Grit X. It's still pretty new and there's not a lot of reviews out there but based on what I read and saw I took the leap. Love this watch. It by far the best Polar watch I have had. The Heart Rate tracks in line with my M430 and the additional features all add to my current weekly activity really well (160k bike rides (Road and Mountain), walks and a weekly run - which I hope to build on). In particular the watch weight really makes a difference - I have never been able to keep a watch on through the night and therefore not ever tracked sleep. I hardly know I have the Grit on it is that light and comfortable. The charge is good - so far I have had three days of around 12 GPS tracking activities (around 10 hrs) and it is at 50%. I would highly recommend and really pleased I kept the faith and carried on using what is such a responsive, easy to use, robust and stylish brand. I would also like to say that I had an issue setting up the weather tracker and through using the website via messenger the tech support took 10 minutes to guide me through the process. Very impressive.

Cracking bit of kit!!
5 years Polar user with a V800. Bought the grit X with a little apprehension due to bad reviews on Vantage watches. I don’t use it for navigation so can’t comment. I use a chest strap for HR as I would never trust any optical sensor. Had the watch 3 days and I love it and the extra options that have opened up in Flow. Love the suggested workouts on the watch which are easy to follow. Love the HR gauge when training. The cardio loading analysis seems really great as well and in general it’s a massive motivator. There was nothing wrong with my V800 and I was going to wait until it started to fail but couldn’t resist in the end and I’m very glad I bought this. Will update this as I go. I don’t have any problem with the screen brightness. I have no real experience of other brands so maybe it is duller than it’s competitors but it’s no more or less easy to read than my V800. Update 16/03/21 My opinion on this watch as I experience it more has got even better. I started to use the navigation features about 6 months ago by downloading routes from Komoot and using the watch like a sat-nav in the Peak District UK and I have had some of the best mountain bike rides ever, on my own, in the middle of nowhere without getting lost once. It really does open up a lot of opportunities when you use the product in this way. I do strength training 3 times per week and I do use a chest strap even though it not very cardio-heavy work, the difference between cardio load calculations with and without the chest strap sensor are massive (confirming that LED heart rate sensors are not reliably accurate and that if you want accuracy then a chest strap is essential). The sleep measurement and metrics are cool, I don't go into detail that much but it's cool to see how 'recharged' you are and this does concur with how you're feeling. Interesting to see how much even a small amount of alcohol impacts your autonomous nervous system. Has helped me to appreciate how much a couple of good (and teetotal) nights sleep impacts on my keenness to train and train hard. A few things have happened in the last 18 months, my dog died, I got an incredible enduro mountain bike, I got a Grit X to replace my V800 and of course COVID so all 4 things have impacted on my schedule in a big way but when I look at my training diary since 2016 I have done more training sessions in the last year than I have in the previous 5 years and I do put some of that down to the greatness of the Grit X.
