DOUBLE SIDED FLAGS - Other Side is a Skull and Crossbones
First, I think they should show both sides of the flag. The flags I received had "ARGH!" on one side, and a SKULL AND CROSSBONES on the other side. I was trying to avoid the skull and crossbones which is why I chose these that said "ARGH!" instead. I just positioned them so that the word was facing forward but was a little disappointed about the skull and crossbones. But that would be a pro to some people looking for skull and crossbones toothpick flags! They can be used in more than just cupcakes - if you have any other soft food at your party, they will work great for decorating almost any platter you have. I still got way more than I could use and would have gladly ordered a smaller quantity.

Pirate Games
When we went to Santa Fe last month, we decided to make a pirate game of it. Certain members of our party were bored by all the driving, so we told them to watch out for Pirates of the Inland Sea. Apparently the Southwest used to be an Inland Sea in ancient times, so it was an educational exercise, too. When we got to Applebees, I put one of these Pirate flags in the lemon stuck on the iced tea glass. Everyone had to guess what the skull & crossbones meant. We decided it meant that the pirates were headed north on I-25 towards Santa Fe so we'd better head there, too. I bought other pirate props including scarves, a treasure chest, gold doubloons, keys, etc to make our pirate games all the more realistic and fun. If you're planning your own pirate games, you will need them.

Worth a few bucks to add to the atmosphere of your pirate themed party.
Yes, you could probably make these yourself. But it would take way to freaking long to assemble all of these picks. For a few dollars, these save some time and make for a really cute addition to a pirate themed party. My set arrived just fine, with no broken or misaligned flags in the bunch. I ended up using my set for hors d'oeuvres at a Halloween party. The nice thing about these being two sided is that you can use them for two different dishes. These look super cute when you use little plastic swords for the other hors d'oeuvres.

Just like the Picture
Just as described & shown, except for short count. Small items like this are usually weight-counted and include a couple extra to avoid short counts, but this package only had 48. Yes, it is only 4%, but it IS short, and if you were decorating 4 dozen cupcakes, then each one would have to be perfect. 12 cents each is a bit pricey, only worth it to top off a pirate theme. If you don't mind taking a chance on the count, then this could be a good deal. Update - On re-count, found total of 49 picks, only 2% short; acceptable, but not desirable. Up the rating to 4 stars (I like it)

Good Cupcake Flags
Nicely done and well printed. They are straight and made the cupcakes look adorable. I made buried treasure cupcakes with vanilla cake mix, pineapple icing and crushed graham cracker crumbs for "sand" topping. Stuck a plastic coin on top and one of these little guys -- a big hit in preschool. Ends are sharp -- keep away from the under 5 set.

Cute
I must admit, these were completely cute however, the product arrived in ok condition. Several of them had bent, curling or peeling corners. I knew that I was over paying for these when I purchased them but wanted to save myself a trip to a specialty store. I only need about half of them for my son's party but was really looking forward to having extras to use as fruit picks. Would not recommend ordering these if you plan to use all 50.

Cute
Super cute for pirate themed parties (we used them for a cheese platter). Just wish there were a few more phrases or images to add to the mix.

I ordered these to use on cupcakes for my son's pirate birthday party. They are awesome! I didn't realize they were double sided and have a skull on the other side, so that was a nice surprise. Great value for the price, I was very happy with them and the cupcakes turned out great.

Great! Good for cake decoration
Got these even though I only needed two. One to go on the back of a pirate ship birthday cake (cake shaped like a pirate ship) - the other one I used to make the skull and cross bones on the paper sail for the ship. I'm not good at drawing or making things, so cut one of the flags off the cocktail stick and glued it onto the black card paper sail - job done - piece of cake (sorry).
