Definitely the best I've found so far
I can't imagine anything lasting a lifetime in the fireplace, I mean, Fire, am I right. But this thing is very robust and well made. I've got 7 years on this one, it is definitely wearing down in the back, not sure where those iron atoms are going, up the flu I guess. But it is still strong and doing it's job.

Happy with purchase
This is a very strong, well built grate that fits perfectly in our firebox. It should last a long time.

Excellent 3/4" Grate (24" model)
Excellent heavy 24" fireplace grate. FRONT feet are 24" wide (PROBABLY the reference point between models). Good welds, sits level (well, feet are co-planar -- it looks level and does not rock), sturdy. Double boxed; reinforced cardboard angles in inner box. The grate had poked through a cardboard angle or two, and had slightly bumped out the inner box in one place. But the packing had kept all 8 points from poking through either box - very nice. I (hubby) am making these comments before use (bought in middle of Tennessee summer 2017). Will be used in a residential (smaller) fireplace (see pictures below; one is a top view of the grate; one is the grate in the fireplace). This grate is the 24" model (the only seller measurement), which others reviewers agree tells you exactly squat. So, grab a cup of coffee and a pencil for a little math: Our fireplace is trapezoidal: 19" across at the back; 32" across at the front; 16" front to back. This grate, like our fireplace, is trapezoidal: the front legs are 24" across (outside edge measurement) and stick out further than the support tines. It would seem that the 24" designation refers to the width of the front feet (can we assume that designation across all sizes? Please help, future reviewers). The rear legs are 20.5" across and stick out further than the support tines; the support tines are 13.5" deep (distance between Line1 and Line 2; Line1 being a line passing through each rear tip; Line2 being a line passing through each front tip). Sorry, easier to do Line1/Line2 then edit a pic. NOW, you may be wondering "If your fireplace is 19" across at the back, and the rear legs are 20.5" across, how can this grate possibly fit? This fits in our fireplace because the rear edge of the rear feet start 3.5" forward from Line1 -- that is, 3.5" from the back of the fireplace. At that point, our fireplace is about 22" wide and so fits the 20.5" wide rear feet. The grate sits 3 5/8" high (floor to BOTTOM underside of cross legs), and the TOP side of the support tines begin at 5.5" above the floor in the MIDDLE of the grate (higher in the back and front). Note that while this is 3/4" metal, it is turned on corners, so these measurements are not multiples of 3/4". Nice grate. Recommended. And IMHO if I owned this purveyor of hearth accessories, I would have dimensional notes on each of these grate sizes to encourage purchase. Good product, bad marketing, and some frustrated reviewers.

Lasts about one heavy burning season
Good unit for indoor, sealed combustion fireplace. Grate bar thickness was slightly less than stated 3/4 inch square stock (about 1/32 less). Made in China so maybe metric sizes were used. I purchased the same grate size at Home Depot 2 years ago and bar stock was true 3/4 inch square. I will be adding a rear center leg to this grate (as I did on the HD grate). This will lengthen the life of the unit by preventing early sagging problems (that 1/32 inch makes a difference). A fire brick placed under the center of the unit does the same trick. Unit should last about 2 burning seasons (daily fires). **UPDATE 24 Jan 2018** Unit lasted one burning season and 2 months into the new season (a total of about 12 good months). I welded a center leg made from 3/4" steel stock in the center rear which helped longevity. I like to get a fire going with small wood then add larger pieces (cutting a 16 inch dia log in half for long burns). The added weight of the larger pieces will make the grate sag when red hot. If you burn only smaller pieces this grate should be fine even with very hot fires. The rear leg assembly eventually weakened and detached from the grate. Still much better than the weak 1/2 inch stock grates though.

LIke most others have said - Too tall but very heavily made
Before I ever used it, I placed this in our fireplace insert and if left at the factory height, I would be limited to logs under 8" around instead of 12" like my previous one. I do like them a little higher so some of the ash can be removed without lifting the grate. So, before I ever used it, I took a chopsaw to it and cut 1.5" off all 4 legs and cut them at an angle where more of the foot would be sitting on the bricks. As shipped, it is cut square to the bar, which puts it at an angle so that only one contact point of each corner is touching. Seemed like that might be harder on the brick liner. If I were to do it again, I think I'd opt for about 2" off but it isn't worth re-doing it all for that 1/2". The bars are much thicker than most inserts which is why I chose this one. I do wish there was one more bar and they were slightly closer together as fairly decent size chunks can fall through. This makes letting it burn down before cleaning and reloading a little more problematic.

Very well made
Didn't fit my friend's fireplace so I returned it. It is very well made & heavy duty. I'm going back to this same brand to get the right size. Worth the money.

Best Grate Ever!
I have gone through several grates over the years and this one is built really strongly and works wonderfully. I have to put a piece of box board or card board on it first before I add paper and then wood to burn. If you just add crumbled paper first, it falls under neath the grate.

I would give it a five star but..
Love the hearth. Heavily made, but too tall. Had to trim the bottom pegs.

Better than expected
This thing is *robust*. It came well packaged in a double-layer corrugated box, and the second I picked it up I wondered if the box had a gold bar in it. It's got a heavy finish on it, and the bars are double the thickness of the grate I'm retiring. It does hold the logs about 1 1/2 inches higher than my old grate - which is probably a good thing for longevity - the old grate quickly became immersed in ash and embers, which likely contributed to its ultimate demise. Having said that, it *did* last through 15 seasons of constant use. This new one might out-live me :-)

Strong solid steel at a killer price
Excellent product at a killer price! From a previous review, I anticipated that I may have to cut the feet. I still gave it a try and it was way to high, as I had to restart the fire all along the night. So yesterday I shorten the feet by 5" exactly, and that is perfect for my fire place size: the reduced height keeps the warmth and the fire running all night without any problem. You just need a good grinder and about 1 hour D.I.Y. time to do the modification. Solid steel, incredibly strong as you can see. Will last much longer than the "basket style" cast iron one I had before. Enjoy ????
