Pitlock is one of the best locking systems to protect bike parts
Pitlock has been leading in this category for many years. The raised metal collars and unique or varied keys make these locks much more difficult for thieves the open than other top brands, which lack protective collars, allowing a vice grip or pliers to be used, or use the same key for every lock. The high quality stainless steal holds up well over time. It eventually begins to rust just a bit after meany years, but cleaning and lubrication will prevent rust in most cases. Bike theft is a big problem in San Francisco, but I rest easy knowing my components are well protected by Pitlock.

without requiring a cable lock through the wheels (which are pretty easy to cut anyway)
I bought these for a Ritchey TI CX I use for travel. I wanted something that would lock the main components on my bike, without requiring a cable lock through the wheels (which are pretty easy to cut anyway). Mounting was easy. I've used it when traveling when locking my bike up, and had no issues. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was that the stem cover didn't fit into my steerer tube... the diameter of the insert was too big. This requiring heavy modification (grinding away quite a bit of aluminum) to get it to work.

Limited application with Fat Tire bikes
The Amazon page for this product is inaccurate in the dimensions provided. It states the the front axle skewer is 6.5" and the rear skewer is 9.5" (or that is how I read it, anyway). Actually the front skewer is 5" and the rear is 6.5". That said - the product still ended up working for me because I was only interested in using it on the front axle of my Fat tire e-bike, the seat post, and handle bar stem. The 6.5" rear skewer works fine on my front axle.

Only one pit
This set only comes with one pit. It's a great set besides that!

Special seat post clamp required! No instructions
The seat clamp for seat post requires separate special clamp, so when I went to install the seat lock on my standard clamp, it got stuck, and I had to remove the clamp, and had to bend it beyond repair to get the lock off! Amazon does not even sell the specialised clamp, and no such instructions come with the set. Very convoluted.

Great axel locks
I love these things. The lock itself works great, i've never had the axel slide our or anything after hundreds of miles of all kinds of urban and rural pavement. These locks are the most aero and lightweight I've seen available to buy and have rock-solid performance in my experience. I've left my bicycle outside in urban Minneapolis spaces for hours at a time with not issue. While Minneapolis isn't SF or NYC, there certainly is bicycle theft. Yes, the inventory system Pitlock uses is old-fashioned- they have a model number for every conceivable combination of axel, hex, clamp, and brake locks that you have to figure out. Yes, they should label the serial on the key. Yes, shipment from Germany takes a while (about a month) when you need something custom-keyed. No, i do not "live in fear" that I might misplace my serial- kinda laughable to me. If somebody "lives in fear" of misplacing their pitlock serial, why wouldn't they also live in fear of misplacing the Pitlock key, their D-lock key, and anything else? That doesn't make sense to me. The packaging comes with a hard plastic card with the serial printed (similar to a credit card) and clearly states reminders to store the card and sign up online. The Pitlock website has a system where you create a login to tie your serial to. Even without that though, everybody can use their favored cloud storage (Google, MS OneDrive, Apple iCloud, Dropbox, etc.) to save the serial. Or just take a picture of the card and it's in the cloud with the rest of your pictures. I initially started with just the front axel 3 years ago and would just make sure to lock my rear wheel through the seat-stay triangle. I recently upgraded to a nice italian leather seat, so 2 months ago I ordered the bike seat clamp and rear axel with the serial to match my front axel. It arrived about 4 weeks after ordering and everything worked great. To have the Pitlock on the rear axel wasn't necessary, but it gives me a little more flexibility with locking up in those weird spots. My main gripe, in contrast to all the other reviews, is that it's very hard to find a bit that fits the Pitlock key to my torque wrench. My torque wrench is 1/4" and the Pitlock is 14mm. I still haven't found any such hex bit.
