Solid brass and solid effectiveness.
Due to the silver coloring on the wires after use, I was about to write a fiery review about how I ruined my $600 aluminum cylinder head because I saved $20 bucks on a brass-coated aluminum wire wheel. But to make certain I wasn't shooting an innocent person, I took a bristle under the microscope. Turns out you just shouldn't take an angle grinder and a brass wire wheel to an expensive precision surface. If you do choose to, then you should at least stop every once in a while and not just wait until "the work is done" to realize what a grave mistake you've made. So, I guess the bristles just get colored under use. If anyone's wondering, I threw the head about 0.004" out of alignment in maybe 3 minutes of "cleaning." If you're thinking about using this to clean gaskets, no. Stop. Buy a carbide scraper, a plastic scraper, and Brakleen and use the least agressive one that works. All abrasives shed - wire wheels, sandpaper, conditioning disks, scotchbrite, rubber bristle wheels, etc. You don't need that crap in your engine. Your head gasket doesn't care about an old piece of gasket that won't scrape off. It does care about a rough, microscopically bumpy, high RA finish left by a wire wheel. Funny how I research things after I destroy them.

Solid brass bristles
Used this brass bristle brush on hot horse shoes and got the brass finish I wanted... worked very well...

Great for my application
I used this wire wheel to clean off some surface rust on chrome-plated steel. Worked very well, as the brass is soft enough to not scratch, yet firm enough to remove the surface rust. Sometimes it leaves behind a yellow hue (from the brass), but that is easily cleaned off with a rag soaked in acetone.
