Gets the job done quietly and efficiently!
Using this as my cats water bowl filter. I bought a 5 gallon water dispenser for my hallway that came with a pet water bowl option, but no filter. Bowl is about 40 oz and this pump keeps it much much cleaner. Had to modify the input tube by heating it up midway and slightly bending it to match the curve of the bowl. Just fits like it was made for it. Its very quiet and I know my cat enjoys the way the fresh water flows into the bowl like from a natural spring. I also enjoy the slight trickling sound as I walk down the hallway, very relaxing and good knowing she'll have clean water. The filter is a good size and easy to clean and replace, unlike other cat fountains where you have to take it halfway apart to change the filter. Has a real nice flow rate and adjustment range. The wattage is so low, during a power outage it can be ran easily for 7 hours off an 80 watt AC portable power bank. Good for you and the fishy's. Me and my kitten highly recommend this filter and circulation pump. I hope this helps and that you enjoy your purchase.

Cheap but works
This is a great filter for a low price, it only comes with one filter cartridge which kind of sucks. But it is pretty powerful, so powerful that I had to block some of the flow in my 5 gallon tank with some fake plants, my betta really didn't like too much water flow. Over all, it's a great cheap filter and lasts

BZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
I purchased this to replace a very noisy filter that hangs in the tank (the black one)....first few days all ok. Now the plastic cover has a buzzzzzzz. I was forced to put rubber bands on it to quiet it down but I fear the motor vibration will get worse over time. The black filter lasted 2 months,,,wonder how long this will last. Then it's time for yet another vendor. I will update when needed.

Arrived with a broken piece
The filter itself is nice, and will work well on my 5 gallon quarantine tank. I think it would be good for folks with beta's as it doesn't create a lot of disturbance at the surface as far as I can tell. However, one of the important pieces, the flow control valve, was broken in the box upon arrival. Without it the water will not suck up into the tube into the filter. Have contacted the manufacturer who I've had great success with in the past so I'm sure they will send a replacement piece. In the meantime I've applied some Gorilla Glue and hoping I can use it at least until the unbroken part comes. Can't wait to use it so I can quarantine some new fish for my bigger aquarium!

Worth every penny!!!
One of my 50 gal aquariums had so much algae in the water I could barely see my fish. I have tried liquid algae removers in the past but found they didn't work very well and given that, are pricey. Filtration works very well however, filters large and powerful enough for a 50 gal sre not cheap. I got the idea, given Amazon's terrific return policies, thst I would start with the least expensive filter and work my way up the price points until I found one that worked. Thereby spending the least possible to solve the problem. When I plugged the little guy in it was only about 30 minutes before I could see a slight but definite reduction in the density of the algae around the filter. Within 2 days the water was crystal clear. I am purchasing another of these little power houses for my other 50gal I couldn't be more satisfied with my purchase. If you are considering the purchase of this item I highly recommend you give it a try.

Excellent filter
I put this filter in an established fishtank with 2 fantail Goldfish. There is a dial on top to regulate the water flow. I have it set about half way, and my tank is clean. Excellent little filter. Highly recommend. (10 gallon tank)

A+ 3 Years and Running
3 years and both of my filters are still running. Best selling point for me, this filter will self prime, restarting after a power outage. Another plus, these HOB filters have longer cords and quiet running motors and that seals the deal! Of course has the adjustable knob for water flow. Tip: should your filter make some noise, lift the magnet held propeller out to clean the muck off. It is quite noisy when it is pumping and filling up and then it goes quiet. Good Luck

It's a wonderful beginning.
This review is for my initial use of the #20 Cascade filter. I promise I will update, if my expectations go south. I am using this filter in a 15-gallon rimless tank that already has a sponge filter in it. There is little water movement with the sponge filter alone. Now, the water flowing from the Cascade is slightly moving the leaves of a Crypt about 20 " away. This is wonderful. My tank is 3 1/2" form the wall. This gap limits what filter can be used. Also, my glass top allows for just 1 1/2" for the spillway. This Cascade works just fine with those measurements. As far as noise goes...yes, there's some when it first primes itself, but after it gets going the noise virtually stops. I did remove the top though, because it did rattle a bit. That may have been the noise some reviewers complained about (?). Very satisfied with the results. I added my own mix of media with floss as the last material the water passes through. The filter body is transparent giving you a good indication when the media needs changing. Like that. It's critical to always have water in the motor's side of the filter before plugging it in. Otherwise, the motor will burn-out pronto. This is the loudest time as the motor goes to work filling the filter box. This noise ceases once the box is full. Also, just enough water remains in the motor's compartment-side when the filter is turned off making a safe restart possible. This has been my experience since I have the filter on a timer. The plastic has a solid feel to it, and its blue color has a warm ambience. That's a bonus. So, this is only the beginning. What's up ahead?

Mine Barly Worked
It's a small little filter that would be perfect for a small nano tank, but mine barely worked so I returned it, even when it did work, it was loud with a lot of air bubbles that would not dissipate, but then it also stopped running a few times within the first 24 hours, unplug it, plug it back in and it would work, but then stop again. The company may have some defective pumps, I am not sure, but having spent this much time trying to get a filter work is simply not worth it, just use a different brand.

Super cute, super quiet, but mine doesn't run
Cute as a button but mine didn't function reliably at all. I got it for redundancy on my 5 gallon and both my husband and I spent vastly more time trying to get it to run than it spent running. When it ran it was super quiet and the flow was good, ours is just not working. Thankfully Amazon is refunding me, but now I have to get something else for that tank. It seems like most people really like this filter, so I think I probably just got a bad one. Despite this, I would actually recommend it ????

Perfect for nano tanks.
Works great on my 3.4 gal. Very small, for some reason I was expecting it to be a little bigger but its cute and works great. The insert is no good. But I left it in for now. I shoved an aquaclear (20/30) bio media bag in it and it just fit. Of course that media goes in a much larger filter so even if I removed half of it. And used filter floss with it. It would work great. For now just the media is working for me and it's quiet with great flow. It says it will work up to 7 gal. An I'm sure it would. But I would only put it on 5 gal max myself.

Works well unless you let it run dry
This filter worked quite well for almost a year, but once, I let the water level get a bit low, and the motor overheated. This warped the chamber that the propellor sits in and it would not work smoothly afterwards. After a few more random failures, it totally siezed. Since they are so cheap, I bought another and will be interested to see how long I can keep it running, as long as I don't let it overheat.
