Worth the money
Works very well, warm and comfortable. Head section could be a little bigger, fabric a little too stretchy

You know how much heat leaves your head?!
Seems nice on my head and face. And able to adjust the fit style for different applications. Feels “woolly” on my skin but not in a bad way.

Too short in back for me, kind of scratchy, but really well made
This balaclava is different than the long hat with eye-holes or hat-and-gaiter style I'm more familiar with. The "hat" part is more like a long yarmulke, that sort of perches on my head rather than hugging it. It isn't long enough for me, so it either doesn't go quite far down enough on my face, or if I pull it down over my forehead then it doesn't go far enough down my neck (although the back doesn't cover my whole neck no matter how I wear it). One nice thing about the front part is that it doesn't rub my eyebrows off or slide down over my eyes like a lot of hats do. The gaiter part is permanently attached, so if you pull it down under your chin to show your face then the hat part is likely to slide around a bit because it doesn't really grip your head. (Maybe because it's too small for me?) I should mention I have a large head, but I did get the right size! I really wish it were longer in back, then I think it would fit well enough. Since it's not convertible you can flip the gaiter over your head or pull it down under your chin, but it tends to look a little silly so I think this balaclava is best for days you'll be outside in the cold for extended periods without having to take it off and put it on a lot. Like it's not ideal for trips to the grocery store and bank, lol. I thought I could just flip it but it looks funny on me, and it flattens my hair so I don't want to take it off altogether. This item is extremely well-made, with tight, even fabric and stitches. The fabric is super smooth and just feels really nice under the hand. Everything about it feels like quality. The fabric is a merino-spandex blend that snugs pretty nicely to your shape in the neck and face area. It's really stretchy in a good way. I usually tolerate merino pretty well and I can wear this but it is a little scratchy to me on my head and neck. This is a handwash-only item (just wash it in the sink with a tiny bit of shampoo). I'm giving it 4 stars because it is obviously well made and useful, even though it isn't long enough for me. I'm just going to assume it's a personal problem because it usually is :)

I'll be ready to snowboard in cold weather. Recommended
I don't snowboard often, but when I do it tends to be towards the end of the ski/snowboard season. That typically means temps in the 30s to 40s, which is good for boarding with a t-shirt or open jacket. Occasionally, though, it's bitterly cold - even that late in the year. When it is, the only part of me that gets cold is my head (even with cap). How will the Cascade Mountain Tech Merino Wool Balaclava work? Comfort is my main concern, so my questions about the product were: 1.) is it itchy?, and 2.) will it pull my facial hair? The answer to both questions is "no", which is great. The balaclava is surprisingly rigid, but it's not uncomfortable. Recommended.

Warm and versatile
My husband and I are both pleased with our Cascade Mountain Tech Merino Wool Balaclava. We wanted it for those early morning dog relief trips in cold weather. It’s made of a 83% merino wool/17% spandex blend and is soft enough although there’s no mistaking it for cashmere. The care tag on the back neck is scratchy and can’t be easily removed without damaging the integrity of the seam. It’s hand wash/line dry. My husband likes that it can be worn as a balaclava, hood, facemask, or neck gaiter. I can’t imagine using it as anything other than a balaclava. While we both like it, I’m taking a star off for that scratchy tag. It was made in China.

Good for the price
First be careful, there are two very different items sharing the same listing, confusing the star rating. This review is for the balaclava. I wouldnt be surprised to learn this item had non merino mixed with the merino wool. I also wouldnt be surprised to learn that it maybe had a little more spandex than advertised. Its VERY stretchy. It also smells very much like synthetic fabric. That being said its warm, its light, and its versatile. It really feels like it delivers on warmth and quality for the price.

Neck Gaiter Portion A Bit Short
This is very comfortable. The Merino wool is NOT scratchy like regular wool. It is fairly warm. The advantage of wool over synthetics is it keeps you warm EVEN WHEN WET. However, I do have one quibble about this balaclava. I do wish the neck gaiter portion was a bit longer. Ideally, I would have even liked the gaiter to cover a bit of the shoulders. Still, this balaclava works quite well in keeping your head and neck warm, especially when you zip up your jacket. --- Overall, despite the quibble, I'd still say this is a very useful piece of equipment to add to your warm gear.

Comfortable and warm
This is comfortable and warm. Easy to put on and take off. Good for when I have to shovel the driveway. It's lightweight but keeps me warm.

Wrong sizing
Product was way too small at the head level. Had to return the product because of that. I don’t intend to buy it again in another size, the mensurations were just wrong.
