Stiff, Too Short

We purchased this Fork Stream cut, the Board short as well as the the Hike short from Columbia, for camping and water activities. Whereas these Fork Stream have pockets (the Hike shorts do not, their only flaw), that's where it ends. They're a stiff, wrinkly fabric, somewhat scratchy, not very attractive and my daughter pulled them off instantly--"no!" They're definitely too short and the fit doesn't sit flat on the body, isn't flattering like the soft, comfortable, slightly longer Hike shorts or the Board shorts. (We purchased two pairs in each of those, she loves them.) She's a slim, 55 lb. 10 year old (usually a size 7/8 pant) and the XS fit, but we returned them. Columbia also needs a better size chart.
