This jacket is awesome for people who work in hot areas!
Backstory : I have tried about 15 rain jackets in the past 5 years. I want a jacket that keeps me dry in a downpour and has enough breathability that I don't sweat to death inside of it even in hot weather (I live in Florida ) I got to try this jacket in a perfect setting for that this week at work. I am a delivery truck driver. I run up and down ramp all day with stacks on a dolley. I sweat a lot! The rain in some areas where I was was ankle deep. downpour for a full hour. In that hour I never once felt clammy. It was 80 something with high humidity(I did have my freezer unit on so it helped cool me a bit) . And the entire time I was getting dumped on and even more so when i would pass under roofs and the like. When I got back into my truck I was about as wet as I was when I got there(I had already been sweating a ton before the rain) and was so happy because I finally found a rain jacket that breathes well and keeps me dry. I was mostly dry up top when I got to my next stop(for context my shorts which do dry fast were still sopping wet) . The technology in this jacket is just incredible and the pit zips are an added bonus. This jacket cost about 200 on the website for the newer version(the difference is bigger pit zips ) and you get it here for 150 less!!! Cannot beat it. So... if you're in a labor job that keeps you in the elements . This jacket is great. Outdoor Research has my business!

Ascentshell is better than Goretex
I've had some Goretex jackets in the past, but given the lower price, and great review on outdoor gear lab last year, I bought their Interstellar jacket. I love the Ascentshell fabric enough that I bought this, the Guardian. Both are being used as bike commuter jackets. The interstellar for winter months, and with the pit zips, the Guardian will keep the rain off of me in the warmer months. Pro's - the Ascentshell fabric is waterproof, more breathable and feels better against my skin than Goretex. I also the the color of this jacket, and the fit is close to perfect for me. Con's - the zippers are the smaller, cheaper kind. There is a storm flap covering the main zipper, because, well, cheap zippers. And the only area where Goretex is superior to Ascentshell would be wind protection. I do feel the wind more in the Ascentshell. And that keeps this from being 5 stars. I have other things I don't love about it, but they all fall into "I am trying to make a hiking jacket into a bike commute jacket" category, so that is on me. If an OR designer reads this, and wants to contact me about how to make an AscentShell bike jacket, I would be happy to give some opinions.

I loved everything but the Turmeric yellow color, ...
So I exchanged it for Retro Red. (To each his own, I guess …) Living in Northeast Florida, where the Sunshine State measures its sunshine in inches of precipitation, a person needs a good rain jacket. So do hikers, wherever they are. This one suits me fine. I will not own a rain jacket that does not have Pit Zips. This one does. Outstanding quality in material and workmanship. (And I must have timed my purchase really well, because I got this for less than half MSRP. shhhh …)

Great jacket, even better price!
If you are all cross shopping between THIS jacket and any non-gore tex shells from the major brands (Patagonia, Arcteryx or North face) I would recommend THIS! It is a little bit snug which makes it great to wear anywhere! Quite honestly, the water beads off better than some gore tex rain jackets that I have that cost over $200, but of course, time will tell!

Runs Small in Size
Very nice, high tech rain jacket which runs small in size. All my shirts and jackets are size XL, so I purchased this jacket in size XL. It did not fit me. It was like trying to fit into a size L rather than a size XL. Maybe the smaller sizes run true to size, but if you are a size XL, you need to buy a size XXL in this jacket.

Killer rain shell
I love the material and the functionality. I got the seaweed green color because it was a lot cheaper but I'm glad I did now because its also really nice looking. Fit is just like all OR jackets. A+ product, deal, shipping, experience. Thanks!
