my 6 yr old son loves this reading program
my son loved the reading games. He hates reading so I was happy to find something that interest him. We liked it so much that I signed up for the subscription service to have new books delivered monthly. They did send the same first set of books that is pictured above and would not refund or exchange for new books, that was upsetting. Looking forward to the set of books next month.

Fun game but disappointed with its abilities
My son is in Kindergarten and is not very interested in reading or writing. He loves when we read books to him but he has no desire to do it independently. I thought this might be a fun way to engage him. The other osmo games were a great tool to use to assist with learning math and other skills. This game is fun and engaging. However, the level one is really advanced for him and it's frustrating that the sight words are much more advanced than the sight words he is learning in his class. We live in Arizona so I know our sight words probably differ from other places but I wish there was a personalization area or game that would allow you to put in your own sight words to work on. So unfortunately my son just gets mad and frustrated at the game because it is expecting a much higher level than he is at. We will have to wait until 1st grade to see if it is an appropriate level for him. The game also never corrects the child if they say the words incorrectly and never revisits material that the children could not complete. Instead it keeps moving on and just getting harder. So my son already struggles at the beginning and instead of working on those same lessons until he masters it, the game moves on and just gets harder for him making him more frustrated. This in return kills his self esteem and he ends up just walking away from the game feeling disappointed in himself. Another issue is that you have to pay monthly for this program. It's a little frustrating that you have to pay for each osmo tools separately and then they expect you to pay monthly?

Not for a beginner reader even at level one
I love osmo and when I saw this beginning reader level one I was excited to buy for my 5 year old. 5 is just getting introduced to sight words so I thought this would be a great reinforcement. None of the sight words are the ones that we have been introduced to. I can't figure out how to set it to a below easy level. My 5 doesn't know how to read- other than recalling books read to him. He can not navigate this platform by himself. There is no correction when a word is said wrong. Games themselves are fun and engaging and holds his attention. A beginner level is mid 1st grade. I will have to wait a few years to try again. Also somehow we signed up for a monthly subscription without knowing. This gives more books but I can't use them. Very disappointed I can't build confidence reading with a 5 year old. Hopefully other additional games are not this hard. Back to the drawing board for pre reading.

The products from Osmo are very durable and sturdy. My five year old granddaughter enjoys learning to read and play.

Books and wand are fine but the app needs improvement
The hardware for this game is fine- the wand and books do what they’re supposed to. The major issue with this- and it’s a huge design flaw- is that in the app, children are expected to read aloud, and the app essentially listens for speech, but the characters in the game don’t say the word back. So if the your early reader doesn’t know a word or says it incorrectly, the characters don’t actually A) let them know that it was pronounced incorrectly and B) don’t SAY the word so your child can hear it properly. Basically, the only way for your kid to use this is if they are already reading on their own or if you are sitting with them going over every word. It’s fine if you want screen time to be a shared event, but my kids are unable to use it without me sitting right next to them being actively engaged. I bought this app to disengage. Cmon!

If I could give no stars I would
We seriously love our Osmo and have many other games. BUT THIS ONE IS USELESS. I made the unfortunate choice to purchase this as a present from Santa from my daughter, and it was not a good idea. Firstly, the app which is necessary to go with the books will not work anywhere outside of the US (which begs the questions why they sell it openly on overseas Amazon marketplaces). Secondly, if you are in the US and can get this to work.... NOTE THAT IT IS A PAID APP! And it's a monthly subscription to use it. So if you think you're simply buying a stand alone book with narration for your kids, think again. You'll need to pay many more $$$ to Osmo to actually activate the thing. Finally, it's a lot of money to pay for 4 tiny books, which are no better quality than something like Usborne Readers which you can buy for USD2 each. Buyer beware. We love Osmo, but think this new product (which we were very excited to try) is a TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY.

If you live in Australia don’t buy it, the app you need isn’t available on the Australian App Store. Contacted osmo and they have NO release date for Australia yet.

So very angry brought 2 levels as a gift for my daughter for Christmas and it can't be used in Australia! And I can't return it as it's passed the return window!! So angry!! It should be advertised in the description its nothing but a dust collector in Australia!! What a joke.
