Generally Satisfied
UPDATE: I have removed a star. After a few months of use, the umbrella has held up very well. However, the carrying sheath is incredibly flimsy; the tip of the umbrella has punctured through the bottom of the sheath, making a giant hole. This causes the umbrella to slip down in the sheath, and as the hole gets bigger, I'm sure it will simply fall out. I have contacted Kikkerland about replacing the sheath, but they said that they could not. It's still a great product, but I'm very disappointed by the terrible quality of the sheath and the refusal of the manufacturer to help. This is a very high-quality product. Although I thought it was gimmicky at first, repeated use in windy and rainy environments demonstrated that it is actually a very sturdy umbrella. It works well as an umbrella. The opening mechanism is strong and smooth, and I was actually surprised by the amount of force with which the umbrella opens. It has a great, strong feel to it, like it would be very sturdy, and I've noticed that there are thick plastic bands reinforcing the umbrella struts, something that was lacking from my previous umbrellas. When I was using this in a bad storm, I saw everyone else's umbrellas flipping inside out, but this umbrella did not flip. In fact, in strong winds, it's almost pulled out of my hands by the wind! The sword handle is also pretty good, with some reservations. While it would have been cooler if the handle resembled a real sword, it is actually a piece of plastic that is molded into the shape of the sword handle. It feels like strong plastic, but I have noticed some sort of matte covering that rubs off, revealing shinier spots on the handle. It's not that noticeable, though; I only saw it upon close inspection. The long handle actually helps you get decent leverage in strong winds, and lets you get a good grip on the umbrella. Unfortunately, the connection between the handle and the umbrella shaft seems a little weak. After only a few days of using it, I noticed that the handle could sometimes rotate around the shaft, so that the opening button becomes misaligned. A hard twist when the umbrella is opened will make the handle turn against the shaft, which worries me a lot. The handle adds a lot of bulk to the umbrella, though, so it does get kind of cumbersome at times. Overall, it's really cool! I've drawn many strange looks and shocked questions when it looks like I have a sword on my back! It comes with a scabbard that slings around your back like a real sword, and it just looks super cool. Definitely recommended; join the ranks of the Umbrella Samurai!

Decent umbrella with a novelty handle
First, thank you Amazon and DHL for the quick delivery to Fiji. The umbrella itself is a relatively quality build sans the cap tips (but not a big deal as stitching is fairly good). Rain coverage suits 01 average person (or 01 average person and a small child). The katana like handle is nicely done with no overt faults (but then am no craftsman). Overall I am happy with this umbrella because it's a decent umbrella with some style. If one is looking for a self-defense umbrella, this is not it (as using it for heavy impact defense or offense can obviously result in foreseeable damage to the otherwise thoughtful product). The build is good enough for usual umbrella use and I will be using mine when it rains again (with some enigmatic style...hopefully....given my inherent comic inclination). I would recommend this umbrella to anyone who is a fan of martial arts (actual practitioners, movie buffs or both) and even to people who aren't into the arts because it is a decent umbrella. Vinaka vakalevu (thank you) from Fiji.

Planted reviews OR knee-jerk reviewing. Either way...
The media could not be loaded. The truth must sound out. I even went so far as to post pictures so people can understand that I'm not feeding baloney here. First, let's get the easy stuff out of the way. The umbrella is attractive. It gets attention, especially depending on how you hold it. If you hold it like the CGI chick from Animatrix, or like Morpheus from Matrix Reloaded, then people will definitely be convinced until you show them it's an umbrella. The handle will fool them. TSA will question you - they might even pat you down. The problem...which is major...is the construction quality. It's not durable for the long term. There are many reasons I say that - first, water will soak through the umbrella fabric, which is to be expected on cheaper unbrellas that you'd get from Rite-Aid, but not one that costs this much. To put it into perspective, I live in San Diego...the place that gets rain MAYBE three times a year. Yet, during this last major rainstorm, even before I had gotten really wet, I noticed spots inside the umbrella. Not good. And no, I open it in a shielded area first before walking out, so it was not exposed at any time to the rain. Also, the shaft is almost like a bamboo-like material, not metal or aluminum like it really should be. AS a result the hooking mechanism, given the size of the umbrella, will eventually bore through and crack the two holes, causing issues like where the umbrella will not stay closed (because the hook near the handle is low), or if it does, is extremely difficult to get open (because the hook further up has bored outward). It's a poorly designed system made worse by a shaft material not designed for the long term. Does it work? Yes. But I was disappointed for the price paid. Now maybe they've fixed and improved it, but I simply was not impressed.

BROKE ON FIRST USE!
Very very VERY poor quality. The first time I used it, the canopy flew right off the handle and couldn't be placed back. It's a piece of garbage. DO NOT BUY!

Great quality but bulky
I bought this for my partner, she loves anything that resemble the traditional Japanese blade, so this was a perfect gift for her. I bought when during the Christmas period, so the arrival was a tad bit longer than usual, but still in time to be wrapped up by hand before delivered. When the brolly came, I was rather astounded by the size. I had thought it would be slightly longer than an average umbrella, but this one is huge. Carrying it in its gift-wrapped form proved to be quite troublesome (I had taken it with me all the way from Oxford to Leeds). However, the quality is marvelous. The design on the handle is rather intricate and the metal appears to be quite steady and long-lasting. My partner is very pleased with the gift and has been using it since her last brolly was apparently not water-proof (the colours were running). However, the strap appears to be a tad bit short. I could not manage to get it across my chest and wear it on my back. My partner is not capable of doing that either. A longer strap would have been much better in my opinion. Overall, a good buy. A tad bit bulky and tends to knock into things if one is not careful, but definitely a head-turner on the streets!

Pretty solid umbrella!
Would have given 5 stars s but was late for delivery. Also the plastic handle can be a little uncomfortable on bare hands after awhile. Other than that it's a good solid feeling umbrella.

Looked great, but broke within a few months
Looked great when I received it, but the extending spring mechanism broke within 6 months of normal use. Admittedly, I may have gotten a faulty product.
