Norcold factory replacement for model 6162.
Picked up a 29-year-old Coachman that had a Norcold 6162 in it. Would not work on AC, gas only. After installing this item, the fridge works flawlessly! For those of you that are trying to replace this in an older fridge, it can be a real challenge. My old heating element was fused to the boiler port. No amount of heat or penetrating catalyst would cause it to budge. In order to remove the old one, I took my Dremel with a small cutting wheel and sliced the port tube. The reason I did it this way was I reckon that if too much force was used to twist on the old element, the welds to the port tube would break away from the boiler resulting in a pricey refrigeration unit repair or replacement. Cutting the curve in the tube seems to have had no effect on absorption refrigerator performance. I saved myself a TON of money by doing this repair myself. BUT, it wasn't easy! Space is very tight. My reefer is a two-way. But the refrigeration unit has a spare tube for a 3-way setup. I could have slipped this down that tube and call it a day. But I chose this method for two reasons: I now have a backup tube in case I can't get this one out. Second, it was really rusty inside and I didn't have anything to ream the tube. In hindsight, I would go to a gun shop and buy a brass brush for gun cleaning to run down that hole. This information is for anybody attempting to do this kind of repair. But this unit is factory fit and performance.

Easy Replacement - be sure your old one looks like this
This Heating Element is an easy replacement but, be sure that your old one looks exactly like this one. At first, I got one that was similar but had some different plastic on the end and the bend wasn't exactly the same either... I figured they're probably all about the same. Turned out that the resistance measured differently and it only lasted about one week before failure. It also blew the fuse on the control board. If your old one looks exactly like this one - you're in luck. This one has been working great for quite a while now.

Norcold Fridge AC heater
I have an older Norcold fridge model N8421M, this new heating element was perfect for my needs and my fridge and ice maker work like new. Because this is in a motorhome with limited access it was a bit difficult to install, however very doable.

Looks right but no go.
It looks great, just like the original. Installed just fine. Plugged in just like the old one. Ohms were correct. Sent a code out to my Norcold that showed it was not going to work. Cannot remember the code right now. Pulled it out, and reinstalled the old one which ohmed correctly also. Now fridge works. So that's that.

Fit and worked perfectly
It took some online sleuthing to determine the right unit to buy for my older Notcold 6 cf RV refrigerator, but I finally figured out that this was the one I needed. What I received was a perfect match for the old one that was shorting out, and everything slipped into place and worked perfectly. And best of all, the cost was less than half of what a local dealer wanted to charge me just to repeat the troubleshooting I had already performed for myself.
