You absolutely get what you pay for!
These shoes - a bit pricey at $400 - do not disappoint. Beautifully made of clearly superior materials - and made in the US! Bravo. I have long been an admirer of good quality shoes, but my prior standby - Johnson & Murphy's - are no longer made in the US, at least not most of them, with the expected fall off in quality and the appearance of a shoddy grade of leather. These shoes more than replace my old J&Ms.

Figure out your size and break them in
Dress shoes have always been quite daunting to me, as I've never had the opportunity to purchase a pair for myself. I decided, what with my wedding coming up, and just for general usage, that having a quality pair of nice shoes would be a worthwhile investment. Allen Edmonds topped many lists during my research and I decided that the Strand looked to be quite spiffy. They definitely seemed pricy, but worth it from all that I read. My piece of advice: try these on IN STORE somehow! I normally wear a size 9.5 and when I ordered these, thought I should size down a bit from some of the reviews. Well, I had to send these back because a size 9 result in crazy heel slippage, although the width felt fine. Received these in a 8.5 and it still slips a tiny bit, but I think any smaller would be too small at the top and way too narrow. Maybe I don't have the right size or I haven't broken them in yet, but they feel a bit narrow. Maybe I expected too much from some of the reviews, or need to wear them more, but they're not the comfort I had expected when I read others rave about. When it comes to the quality, these shoes definitely feel and look to be top-notch. They are beautiful to look at and are sure to impress. I just hope that I can find a way for these to fit me better. I wore them on my wedding day and I have to say, although I have went on and on about them not fitting completely right, they never hurt my feet like a $100 pair of dress shoes would, and complemented my attire quite well. In conclusion, I would highly recommend finding a way to try these on to figure out your fit and dress shoe size before purchasing. The quality and aesthetics of this shoe are very nice and I'm confident that most people would be 100% satisfied with their purchase. Hoping to come back to edit my review after breaking these in more.

Amazing Shoe - Just be careful with the sizing
This is my first real nice pair of shoes, so it's hard to compare it to anything more than the cheap stuff I've used in the past. The leather is just stunning looking, the color of it, feel of it, stitch work, the way it shines up and beams in the right light, it even smells great.... just a beautiful shoe. Also, the solid oak heel sounds and feels amazing. There's really something about walking on a sidewalk with that click clack. The Walnut color also allows some versatility, it practically goes with everything besides black. It's a shoe you can wear to more formal events/work places and one that you can wear with jeans on Saturday, it's pretty great. The shoe feels amazing as well, after a day or two of wearing it, I broke it in and it's easily now the most comfortable shoe I've ever used. The big caveat is the sizing, this shoe is strange in that it's significantly longer and more narrow than your traditional shoe. In your average shoe I'll wear a 10.5, maybe an 11 in sneakers. So I ordered a 10.5D.. the thing was painful to wear even just sitting at my desk. So after doing research and figuring out how Allen Edmond's sizing works a bit with a 9.5EEE, which ended up fitting amazingly. Apparently with each width increase your also going to get a bit of length. But now it fits much more nicely, the lace gap closes much more, and the shoe was significantly more comfortable immediately. In fact I possibly could have gone down to 9EEE and that might have been even better, which again as someone with fairly normal feet who wears around 10.5-11s in other shoes that's just crazy. Amazon was very gracious with the exchange process and even sent me free expedited shipping on the wider pair so I'd have them in time for an pair of events, but I'd still recommend trying to get a fit at a brick and mortar location first if possible (wasn't for me) they'll size you up and fit the perfect pair for you. Currently Amazon seems to sell the D width and EEE only. According to AE the difference is about 3/16 of an inch for each width, so someone might be more keen on E or EE or even the more narrow ones.

The Roth IRA for Dress Shoes
So there is a lot of players in the game these days as far as dress shoes go. But team, let me be very clear about one thing... this shoe is where the cheery meets the whipped cream on your ice cream sunday. I have had the middle of the road dress shoe with your standard issue rubber sole, and yes, those are leading the power rankings with Prom and other awkward teenage formal events. But seeing that I just hit my prime in my mid 20's, and knowing that if I wanted a snowballs chance in central park to be respectable in the working world, I would need to act like I have rounded third after a walk off homerun. Back to the shoe, they fit great with a dark blue suit, I have seen them worn with dark jeans and the color of the shoe compliments a variety of fall colors. The leather sole took me one night in dancing to a mildly decent swing band at a wedding to break them in. The leather sole is also replaceable, which extends the life of this particular shoe. I have good friends who have had the same pair of Allen Edmond shoes and just replace the soles, some aging over 20 years old. Call it a great shoe, call it fashion equity, call them Allen Edmonds, I am telling you, this shoe is worth the price and the feeling you get when you lace these cleats up for a night out on the town. Look good, feel good, play good.

Classy well-made shoes
I use these mainly for more formal events, for which they are well suited. They are comfortable (mainly) but I like to line the soles with Full Grain 5.5 oz Leather to make them more wearable at long events. Also, preserves the shoes. when the insoles get dirty/worn, I change them. Picture shows method (I get the leather @ Amazon). Style: I prefer a slightly rounder look in the toe, but I am told by women around me that their pointier look is more modern. After returning one pair that were too small, I picked this up when by fluke I noticed a pair in a better size had been returned. The price was ridiculously inexpensive but I would have paid willingly paid the higher price.

Fits like a $400 shoe
This is my first pair of Allen Edmonds. My typical dress shoe in my closet is in the $100 range. I don't know if this pair is 4× better than my other shoes but it does feel like a better quality shoe. It seems to me like a $400 shoe. I may buy more AE in the future. My pair does seem to be a 'seconds' but very little is wrong with the pair I received.

Great Shoes , Great Value , Sudden Sale
I have quite a few Allen Edmonds, love the brand love these shoes. Got them during a sale for way below what even Nordstrom or any shoe retailer sold them . Pair that came in were spectacular. I bought a pair of Daltons and had quality control issues , However with this pair , was a gorgeous flawless pair. So if you see these on sale, go and buy it . If they are regularly priced go to your local retailer and try them on , to make sure that the pair that you get is flawless. But if its on sale , trust me take the gamble and buy these babies , buy them to size and enjoy the quality of construction that Allen Edmonds always brings .

You get what you pay for
Great looking pair of shoes. I looked around my area stores but didn't find anything as elegant as these to fit my extra wide feet. Very happy with my purchase.

Bad quality control!!!! More worst than I thought.
I cannot believe that Amazon did not even check the item before shipping it. The item was old and worn to be resole!!!! Unbelievable and outrageous!!!! Fortunately, customer service was kind to replace the item (the least they can do, otherwise it's pure fraud). This is not my first pair of AE, let me tell you that I see the quality of AE deteriorating... Got replacement item and those are definitely factory second!!!! Allen Edmonds, if you read this, your quality control is crap!!!!! You or Amazon is selling these items as new and your expect people to pay premium for a crappy shoes???? Make in USA??? Even China has better quality than that. BTW, I own more than 30 pairs of high end shoes, over 500$ to 1000$ some pairs (Alden, Carmina, Vass etc) You can't even match their quality, not a bit!!! At the price your are selling, it's call theft!!!!
