A great choice overall

I bought a Brightech (maybe the predecessor to this) around 5 years ago as a gift for someone who requested it. It was $30. more on a deal (normally higher). There are some differences (some better, some not). 1. What I will call the head (the top part hich surrounds the light) on this is thinner. I may consider that worse, but this does look more streamlined and that isn't a huge sacrifice. 2. The flex neck on this is rounded whereas the previous is rounded on the back and flat on the front. I prefer the previous. 3. The same goes for the top of the pole where the flex neck goes into tube, though that doesn't so much matter. The tubing going from there into the base seems thinner too. 4. The previous version has a pig tail where the power adapter plugged into. This would constantly disconnect to where I got electric tape to keep that from happening. This has the input for the adapter directly on the base. That's a much better design IMHO. 5. I believe the base is shaped differently and not as substantial. I am not sure it is weighted as much either, and could be a bit less firmly planted, but it still stays put pretty well. 6. This seems a bit shorter, but I am not sure it is. I think it's the design changes. I am over six feet and it still works for me. 7. The button feels cheaper. I can't tell if cheaper materials were used or it's because of the thinner head. I had bought another lamp for this tight area as I was trying to keep costs down and I didn't know if this would fit. As it is, the base on that was more square and although thinner, probably took up about as much space. That light had adjustments for color and brightness as well as dimming, where as this one only dims. This one has light that doesn't seem as harsh, and covers a bigger area. I ended up using the previous one over sheet music on the digital piano which it does well at. One thing on at least this and the previous model is that the LED light is not replaceable. Once it burns out, you have to toss it. The directions could be a bit more clear for beginners or those not paying as much attention. Decisions: if I were to choose between the previous beige one, the smaller more featured one, or this one, I'd choose this one. The things less good (thinner head, possible lighter thinner base, different neck, thinner tubing etc.) all are worth the price reduction. The improvements make up for the lack of lighting options.

Nice lamp, SO BRIGHT

If you need a lamp for fine detail work, this is your lamp. Easy to assemble, works great, and BRIGHT AS THE SUN. It’s a bit too bright for my needs, but it’s still a nice lamp.

An outstanding lamp

So I'm writing my review on the small desk that I have at home. I was initially looking for a desk top lamp but I figure that I'll give a floor standing lamp a try that way I can move the light from room to room. The biggest deciding factor for me to purchase this lamp was the 5 year warranty. I know leds last forever but it's just nice to have that additional protection. I also use this lamp for my daughter's drawing desk. Since she's a toddler her table is very small and there's no room for a desktop lamp. The goose nice is easy to use and pose. I found the power button placement a bit odd but I guess there's really no "perfect" place to put it. Most lamps have a foot switch so this is a nice feature if you don't want to step on your switch to turn on the lamp. It was no harder to assemble than an IKEA lamp so if you can do simple assembly then there should be no problem putting this together.

Lasted less than a year...

I think a feature of these tall lamps is that if you grab them to move them, there is a lot of torque on the stem where it fastens to the base. Purchased less than a year ago, the stem came loose from the base and won't screw back in because the threading is cracked at the bottom. We've repaired it with glue, but it's probably not going to last. Not sure how you fix it at it's a function of the long, thin stem and the heavy, weighted base.

The Tower of Pisa?

I love this lamp. However, I wrote an e-mail of "disappointment" to Newhouse Lighting about the base. The stem, or vertical part, is attached to the base by a single setscrew. It winds up looking like it's about to topple. Their goofy engineers, or whoever designed the lamp, should have secured it with a min of two (2) setscrews, or three (3) as an optimum, each placed equally around the circular base. Deducted one (1) star.

My wife can now read her Kindle without keeping me up with her bedside light !!!

My wife resists anything too technical, and refuses to get a lighted Kindle beccause she wants the long charge time the standard kindle has. This light is very simple to operate (very important!) and can be setup to light only where you want to put light. She loves this thing, and I no longer have light shining in my eyes from her side of the bed. Well worth the money!! Shipped quickly and securely , arrived in perfect condition and was easy to assemble. So far, I'm completely satisfied. If anything changes, I'll let you know.

Pretty good and pretty basic

Easy to assemble and use floor lamp. Basically zero functions - enable/disable. Does the job well. Still working and as bright as in the first day after 2 years of use
