Unless you’re cutting your own shelves, you’re probably going to have to mount these upside down.

I’m using these shelves in my art studio and they are great for that purpose. Unfortunately, many of these shelf brackets are just slightly less than 12 inches so the prefab shelves that you can buy at the big box home improvement store are not going to fit in the standard configuration. This is the second set of these that I’m installing so I knew that going in. I mount the brackets upside down and use a strip of polymer adhesive tape on each one before I put the shelf down on them. That way I don’t have to worry about the shelf going anywhere and I don’t have to drive a screw up into it and worry about it cracking or going through. The first set I installed with that method is still going strong a year later and I see no reason why it won’t continue to work well.

Used for Outdoor Window Box

I got these for an outdoor window box we were installing. One thing I noticed right away was that these brackets included plastic anchors which is something the other brackets we used did not include. That made installation so much easier and quicker. Since we had already installed several window boxes on brick, we predrilled the holes before attaching the brackets. This set is holding the window box well. I look forward to changing out the plants seasonally.

Quality shelf brackets but frustrated by the oddball size

Although these aren't "floating shelf" brackets in the truest sense, there's no doubt that the entire National Hardware N900-002 Floating Shelf Hardware Kit is a quality product. Everything about the kit is solid, including the mounting hardware, the packaging, the instructions, and the brackets themselves. Unfortunately, the oddball 11-3/8" depth makes these brackets hard to use with conventionally sized 12" and 10" shelves. I originally planned to use these "floating shelf brackets with two 10" shelves that I already owned but found they were too small for the brackets. Then I bought a nice 11.75" shelf which ended up being too big. Now I have to either purchase new shelf brackets for the new shelf or use the National Hardware brackets upside down in jury-rigged fashion with the new shelf. It's frustrating. And it leads to a question: If 12" and 10" are standard shelf sizes, why make the brackets 11-3/8?" Anyway, I haven't decided which approach I'll take but wanted to give my initial thoughts. By the way, when I say these aren't truly "floating shelves," I mean that these shelf brackets are visible, unlike traditional floating shelves that hide the mounting brackets. That might not be a big deal to you. But it's something to be aware of. Anyway, I'll keep you posted. ***UPDATE*** Well, I went ahead and installed the shelf brackets upside down so I could use the shelf I had purchased. I was pleased with the final result, even though I knew it wasn't the correct installation. I've added a photo showing the installation and raised my rating to 4.5 stars overall.

Premium kit and look nice. I like that I can choose the studs for placement.

After having true floating shelves pull out of drywall I am always going to stick with these types of brackets where I can place these into an actual stud and choose the length of wood I want to use. I have a neighbor who cuts cedar board for us. I also want to try a piece of barn wood from my grandpa's old barn. The coating is amazing and thick. Looks perfect with my matte black faucet and lighting fixtures in the kitchen. The brackets also have countersunk holes so the screws won't catch or snag. Brilliant brackets and all I will continue to use from here on out as tired of the drywall dramas.

Perfect for Farmhouse Shelving Using Real Wood Boards

I have a space above my washer and dryer that is begging for some shelving. I mean every time I walk into the laundry room it screams at me. I really like the Farmhouse look and have been looking for some nice, quality brackets that aren't going to break the bank and these fit the bill. These brackets measure 11 3/8" to accommodate a 1x12 or 2x12 board (which measures 11 1/4") and they look great! The box came with everything needed to hang these beauties including the anchors which are pretty substantial as they have to be to hold these brackets up. It's better if you can find a stud since they are so heavy. I have every confidence that these puppies will hold my 1x12 shelves and all of their decorative items. Now when I walk into the laundry room, I just smile. I highly recommend these quality brackets if you plan to use lumber for the shelving and want brackets that are made for real lumber.

Perfect DIY shelf!

Fantastic, exactly what I was looking for! Ended up buying a second set so we could have the shelf run the length of the wall. Perfect depth for storing books or decorative items. Sturdy, secure, and looks amazing. Can’t wait to get all of our books up on the shelf!

Luckily these do not sting like a bee. They were easy to install. The black takes away from the floating aspect some, but that's probably just me.

These are perfect!

I wanted J brackets for some kitchen shelves I planned on installing. Previously, I ordered 2 different inferior sets that I returned before settling on these. They are better than the rest for a few reasons. Right out of the box, you can feel the heft/weight of them. They are heavy duty and can hold a fair amount of weight. Then, the shape of them is actually pretty. They have a slight arc to the top of the bracket. It adds just a touch of personality and beauty to them. I’ve never seen a bracket like it! Next, the paint finish is perfect. It is flawless. The other brackets I ordered all had streaks and spots with the finish. This is solid matte black and looks lovely. Lastly, the hardware that ships with this is actually usable! I ALWAYS swap my personal hardware and metal wall anchors. I didn’t have to with this set. The screws were strong, not soft. They matched the paint perfectly and create a cohesive look. I couldn’t be happier. This is a quality, affordable set of brackets! Go for it!! PS. These fit an 11.25” shelf.
