WE LOVE THIS LITTLE HELPER!

I ordered these to keep the door between the living room and the terrace that faced the ocean on the 15th (actually much higher because of the 5 story shopping plaza that the Marriot Towers are perched on) floor of our unit in Ft. Lauderdale FL. We never use the AC. My partner was dubious before the door stop arrived saying that the space between the door and terrace floor was so wide. We had been stuffing magazines and newspapers to hold it open for the past couple of years which did the job but was unsightly, especially because we are both OCD! I assured him that I had measured the space and tried to be a good online shopper, (i.e. not simply reading, but evaluating customer reviews. Some people will send a poor review of an item that they purchased without reading the measurements or materials used etc.). Well, we both love it! We already have used it elsewhere, to hold open those heavy hotel doors while we bring in or remove our luggage. We travel much of the year and it has always been a pain in the keester (as well as my bad back) because all of the doors to our rooms are heavy and unwieldy. I'm taking Buddy, (I just gave him a name) in my carry on luggage in the future. It looks like it should last forever; being solid rubber. With some open space underneath; I don't want to mislead readers of this review. I thought it was going to be solid like a brick, but I think it's solid enough, if the user respects it's capabilities and doesn't abuse it as I think many people who complain about items, do. Looks like it will last but only time will tell.

Okay, but not quite rigid enough

I use this to prop open my heavy office door - which is on an automatic closing system that closes and locks the door soon as you release it. The National Hardware wedge is long and sturdy enough to hold this type of door open, however it lacks enough rigidity to truly do the job. You tend to want to kick it into the door so it wedges into the opening at the bottom, but this particular door stop isn't strong enough to be used that way - it flexes and bends, rather than sliding further under the door. Because of this, eventually the weight of the door wins and it gradually closes, pushing the door stop out of the way. Also, unlike the product description (which says "gray"), the unit I received is dark brown. I suppose it's a fair product for the price, but if you have a large, heavy door - or maybe one on a spring-loaded door closer - you'll want something more.

A decent door stop AND a dog chewie!

Works like it should. Several doors in our home were hung incorrectly when the house was built, and these keep them open. Got a new puppy though, and apparently these rubber door stops are irresistible to teething dogs. She doesn't swallow the pieces - just gnaws them off and spits them out. What was once a 6" wedge is now about 3" long. LOL. Yeah I know. We give her plenty of safe chewies and toys, but she still goes for the door stops.

Beyond my wildest expectations

It's the little things in life that should make you happy. Last night after I received my door stop, which was so simple to install, I had my hands full with groceries. Now normally I fumble with the doorknob, try to hold my groceries on one leg while I push the door open with a little hip check. More often than not, something falls out of the grocery bag (Let me tell you, I hate bruised tomatoes). Not this day!, Not anymore! My new door stop came to the rescue and held that door open with a steadiness you only see in fighter jet pilots or plastic surgeons. Without a doubt I will be getting this for friends and family this Christmas. 5 Stars!

best I've found

I just wish it was thinner at the end, because the gap under my door is not much with the carpet, and I have kind of 'wedge' it in under the door. But once it's in there, it does a good job staying there. Also, this wedge is huge. 6" high is a lot. If you need something higher than that, then you have a gigantic gap under your door. The rubberness is great for keeping it in place. UPDATE 11/21/12: This is the best wedge I've found, so I upgraded my review to 5 stars. I tried other ones, then kept going back to this one. I bought a second one, as well.

Works as intended.

This door stop works as intended to hold a door open. With a foot against it, it is also capable of stopping someone from forcing the door open, but will not hold without slipping without a foot against it. I realize this device was not intended as an intrusion protection device. It is rather low, so if there is a large gap under your door, buy a larger size.

Functions Well

This works well. Since it has so many wedges, it makes it much harder for a persistent toddler to move from place. It is made of solid material and does what it says it will. I have it in black- although I do believe it said it was "gray" when I ordered it but that wasn't a problem. I do wish this was just a little more aesthetically pleasing.

product as described. However, it did slide on my tile floor from time to time which was a little annoying. All said and done, its a door wedge and it does it's job.
