Almost 7 years going
I was doing some dishes and realized that I hadnt removed one of the gaskets on one our kids cups. See the second picture. I nearly threw up. Full of black mildew. I went threw my entire cabinet to see if I missed any cups. So i checked these Nalgene cups and not one spec inside these cups. I have never removed that rubbery stopper, in 7 years. I purchased these in 2016 and will never buy any of that crap you find at Walmart again. Yes some of the graphics have worn off, which is fine. As your kid gets older, they'll look like a normal cup without the kiddie look. Our son is now 10 and use these cups almost daily. Thank you, Nalgene

Top Hard to Close
We have two of these and both tops are extremely hard to snap shut. I wonder about the suitability for young children.

Easy to clean and to open but not to lock
Our 2 year old has mastered another no-straw bottle with a better lock design, but still struggling with this one. The lid is heavy and throws off the bottle balance, when it's empty, making him spill water and not able to close it. He has no issues with opening it though.

Pretty Nice Bottle
I like this bottle fairly well. However it is not our first go-to bottle when we are on the go. Of the cheaper, healthy bottles, it is probably our 2nd favorite. Crocodile Creek is our #1, though it is often quite a bit more expensive. PRO: - Size - 12 ounces is a nice, in-between size. - No spill, IF you have it secured - Body has large top, which makes cleaning soooo much easier. No need for a bottle brush. Of course, that makes it more clunky, which I also find a negative (see below) CON: - Fat - It's fatter than a lot of other bottles. As a result, it isn't as easy to tuck into a purse or picnic pack. I would prefer that it was taller and thinner. - Clunky - The top makes up about 1/3 of the height of the bottle. Not terribly efficient use of space. The flip closure could easily have been designed in a way to take up considerably less room. For the size of the bottle vs the quantity it holds, it's not a great ratio. - Closure - The only way to truly close it and also keep it from leaking is a two-fold process. Close the lid, then flip the metal ring up and over the nub on the top. Not so easy for a little one and seems unnecessarily complicated. Note: - The drinking hole is larger than most. It's a hole/spout that is about the diameter of a nickle. Nice, because you can get it nice and clean. It also makes it easier to get a nice flow of liquid when you are drinking. It may be a downfall for some using it with smaller children, as it will make it easier to spill, etc.

These are great.
I have 4 of these in the larger bottles. I wanted something a little smaller to carry and I love that these can be locked and are spill proof if you close them properly and screw the lids all the way on. I say that because the only time these have leaked is when I didn't finish screwing the lids all the way on for some reason. I have been using this type of bottle for years. The lids are easy to clean. The small squishy part that closes the hole up does become moldy and it would be great to have the replacement parts for just that instead of having to buy a complete new lid (because that is just more plastic in landfills and I believe wasteful on the part of the company). However, for me, because I have yet to find anything I like better, I just buy a new lid. I do, however, cringe a little bit when I have to throw the old one that is still perfectly good, except for the squishy part, into the trash because I think about how wasteful that is on the part of the company.

This great water bottle doesn't leak!
I bought this so my daughter could take water to school in her lunch box, because the water bottle we had previously would pop open easily and all her books, papers, etc. in her backpack would get soaked and ruined. Have been using it a few months and have not had that problem at all! It seals good and tight, and the extra metal hook helps to keep it latched. After washing, it's a good idea to store it without the lid being shut tight so that it can air dry completely so you won't get mold. If you will be using it daily, I recommend buying 2 so that you always have a clean one ready to go. I only bought one, and sometimes I don't have time to wash it before I pack her lunch again. I haven't experienced any mold growing in it yet, but I'm afraid it might happen if I never give it time to air out. But like I said, it hasn't happened yet. The only reason that I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the metal hook is very difficult for my 7-yo to unlatch by herself. She has to have an adult help her each day at lunch. She can close it by herself, but she does have a hard time opening it. Even so, I'd buy it again. It sure beats having to dry her books and homework with a hair dryer every night because her water bottle is leaking, and it's cheaper and more environmentally friendly than buying bottled water.

Good brand but not for my 5 year old
Was looking to replace plastic leakproof water bottle for 5 year old. I do not like the straw bottles because of the extra step of cleaning the straw, and my son’s tendency to mangle nozzles with his teeth over time. I ordered this one as I thought it met my requirements. However, I found that the lock proof mechanism was hard for me to get open, let alone my kids. Also, I didn’t see how it would be leak proof once the cap was open, which is what I was most concerned about. Maybe a good choice for when my son is older, but not now.

Best water bottle for children!
This is our 4th Nalgene water bottle. What can I say? They're the best in the market, that's why we keep ordering them (some as presents for friends). Very sturdy, no leakages, easy to drink and most importantly, extremely easy to clean. Practical design, no straws, no extra corners or unnecessary/complicated bits to hide germs or mould. Not that kind of water bottles one could easily found in shops so nobody in my daughter's classes has the same, no mix-used and mistakenly taken which is a plus. Our first one is on its 5th year duty and still going strong. Highly recommend, definitely worth paying a few more quids for them!

IT SPILLS WHEN OPEN
Yes this is leak proof, and our eldest LOVES hers. It is a nice tight seal and, after some practice, our three year old can open it on her own. HOWEVER: it the pouring lid is open, the contents pours out. So if dropped or knocked over its GAMEOVER for the drink. This may seem obvious, a drinks container that when open spills when knocked over, but its for "Outdoors", outdoors doesn't always have a perfectly flat surface or is safely away from being knocked over. Other than that, its built well, seems to survive the dishwasher well and hasn't yet become mould riddled.

difficult to open for smaller ones
I am very pleased with this bottle, it fills easily and is easy to clean. so far, it has not leaked. Further, I like the feel it has when held. But, and hence only 4 stars, my 4 and 6 year old struggle opening it and have squeezed their fingers not once.
