Very simple, not for constant winding up/down
These cord wind-ups are more like cord holders, and they hold the cord very well. It is impossible to unwind the cord, even though package says to turn counter clockwise to do so. I mean if you are very very strong I’m sure you can turn anything counterclockwise... but the point is the turner locks in winding up the cord and that that. Otherwise it works very well to keep the cord out of reach. I actually left enough cord at the top free to move shutters to open/closed position. On the other side (to lift or lower the blinds) we use the special bit provided with blinds that screws into the side of the window frame. It’s really not too large/noticeable, at least if your blinds are the same white color. All in all it’s great and AFFORDABLE product to keep kids safe. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Sort of Finicky
Our blind cords hang almost to the floor when they are open. I picked up three sets of these for the living room and kitchen. They get the job done, which is why I gave them three stars instead of two, but they are very finicky to install. You have to make sure they are dead center of the cord or they still wind up long. Also, they are very hard to click closed. Sometimes, if you touch them they will just fall apart in your hand. Once they are up and secure, they are fine, but getting them that way can be quite frustrating.

Not for me
I consider myself handy and I know I put this thing together right, but... as others have said; it comes apart if pulled on too hard. I like to open my blinds all the way, and have to put the cord winders up pretty high for them to be out of reach. This means I have to take them off each time I want to put the blinds down. Kind of a pain, even though they are very easy to install. It's possible, most people have windows set higher than mine. In that case, these may be perfect. Guess I should have researched a bit more before buying. Not a terrible product, just not right for my house.

Hard to wined, easy to deploy
Perfect for keep up cords out of reach. But there is alot of winding and takes time to wind back up. Can slide off center postwhen winding up and had to start over. Easy to open and release though. Then the pieces are sitting on the sile.

Simple Fix
I needed a dozen roman shade cords to be taken out of the reach of my 2 and 4 year olds. The Mommy's Helper cord wind up was inexpensive and simple to install. Other reviewers cite problems with the product falling apart if the cord is pulled to open the blinds, but I have had no such problems. Our cords were very long and it was faster for me to manually wind them around the spindle inside the bottom half of the housing instead of spinning the closed housing to wrap the cord. Also, when closing the unit, a significant amount of force was necessary to get them to snap securely (this may be where the other reviewers are having problems with the Wind Up falling apart when touched). I've had them up for two weeks, opening and closing them daily, and have had no issues at all. They unobtrusively blend into the decor and require no special hardware to install. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Hard to wind up when fully closed
To get around it being hard to wind up while being closed, I have it almost closed and then wind it up. Once it is where I want it, I fully snap it closed and it works great. When I open the drapes, I pull on the string above it or it may pop off and then you need to rewind.

Good for protecting curious little children
I like this product as it is much safer than leaving the cord unwound & taking the chance of a curious child possibly strangling themself. The only thing i dislike is that when you go to change the position of the blinds the product usually pops off & you have to rewind it all over again. If you like to adjust your blinds daily, it is a little bit of a pain but still worth the safety of the child

I haven't completely given up on them yet..
These are just one of many cheap child safety products out there than may serve the intended purpose, but may be more trouble than they are worth to make work. It's not rocket science, but it's a total pain in the ass to get the cords lined up in the right direction, with an adequate length of cord, and to get it all wound up and snapped together. You think you finally got it, and then you pull the cord to adjust the blinds and the caps pop apart and now you've got a tangle of strings to untangle. Maybe 'm just missing the magic touch, but.. I'm plenty happy rolling the cords into a ball and securing them with a hair clip. it's less work and plenty effective.

Mine don't work ????
Maybe it's just me but my does not seem to work :( the instructions are For 2 cord but mine has 3... I don't know if this is the problem? But it does not state in the description the maximum cord capacity ... The idea of it seems good and in theory should work ... I read reviews before I purchesed this product and it had no bad reviews... I also think these are only worth a quid at most... And should be something you find in a pound shop... But never the less if I could have worked my product the couple of quid I spent wouldn't have bothered me so much .... Prompt delivery and well packaged... Other than that I'm a bit disappointed

Ok
I've used one so far. Its ok does what its meant to do. Which is shorten cord length. I couldnt use it on horizontal blinds (patio door) only on vertical window ones.

Not useful
Not useful at all. After you install it, if you manage to wind the blinds cord, you pretty much have to take it apart to unwind it. May as well tie a pen to the blind cord and wind on the pen. I think that will work better than this mommy’s helper. Not recommended.

Difficult to turn
I'm a bit disappointed with these. They are hard to turn, which makes using them multiple times a day unpleasant. If you only need to turn them once in a while, they would be fine. I would rather have purchased cleats to wrap the cords around for every day use. Would not be suitable for someone without strong hands.

Not very usuable
I bought a pair to see how they work. They don't work for us. You can't adjust the blind height when they are on. Any pressure thru them and they pop off. If you want to lift the cords up off the ground and then not touch them again they work fine. But if you want useable blinds then this is not the answer
