It works!
Needed this for a 1970 bathroom construction when a faucet broke. It's the exact piece I needed after 2mo's searchin!

One is Good, but two is always better (Part 2 - See Moen 97479)
This set work fantastic only because of the two deeper retention rings in the Moen 97479. Had this set included the retention rings stems under the Moen 97479, this would have gotten 5 stars. I should note, this kit is for the Monticello set which is discontinued. I cannot speak for any other faucet this kit may work for. I bought this in combination with the Moen 97479 stem extension kit. The combined purchase was the ideal situation. The colored hot and cold stems on the 97344 are designed to restrict the flow of water. The handles would will only make a quarter-turn. The stem extensions under the Moen 97344 will allow for a 180 degree turn. As for the flow rate, the Moen 97344 set wins!!!! The valve retention rings in the Moen 97479 are deeper and do not require the screw into the faucet housing as deep as the original retention rings as shown in this Moen 97344 kit. It would appear the retension rings of the Moen 97479 are a reinforced nylon rather than a original nylon rings you see here. If you run into the problem with the heavily corroded threaded brass collar, you'll destroy the smaller nylon ring with the special tool - WHICH YOU DO NEED!!!! I got mine at Menards for $3.50. So, not knowing the differences between the two set due to the poor descriptions when researching them, I bought them both! I'm glad I did!!! Now I have extra retention rings for the next time. Why? Because this faucet these are for is discontinued and I don't want to go without a shower again and spend half the day running around to hardware stores and home centers that don't carry them. Thanks a lot Home Depot, Menards, and Lowes! They were all NO help on a Sunday afternoon. One of the sales people looked at me with the dumbest look on their face and said, "well, it looks like you should go look at our line of faucets and buy a new one!" I looked at him with a dirty look and said, "NO!", and walked away. And Ferguson's was closed on Sundays - which didn't help either. Do yourself a favor - BUY BOTH SETS. It's still cheaper than calling a plumber or buying an entire new faucet set! (You're welcome, Amazon!)

Our tub two-handle faucet cold water side would not turn the water on. Taking it apart was easy and revealed the stem had cracked at the point where it locks into the mechanism that allows the water to be turned on (or off). Home Depot, Ace Hardware, etc., had no replacement that came close to what I needed. Fortunately, I came across images on the web that pointed me to Moen parts on Amazon that looked like the part I needed. My faucets had no ID on them that they were Moen products. But I ordered this kit and wow, the black stem fit perfectly. The other parts with the kit (screws and small, small cylinders were not used. I only used one of the two, saving the other for surely the one I did not replace would break as soon as I discarded the white one. No instructions with the kit. Hence, not sure if the white is for cold and the black is for hot (or the other way around). Nevertheless, right now I have a functional faucet system.

Took a chance as a replacement for a similar part
I had a plastic spline extension in my cold water valve break. I bought the house with the fixture already installed. It had no brand label so I spent an hour or more online looking at pictures and searching for terms that might turn up something. Nothing matched the piece that had broken, but these seemed like something that was close and might be made to fit. Plumbing stores in Seattle told me that Moen never used plastic parts so I had the wrong brand. In the end I decided to take a chance and see if these would work, and by golly they do! And without modification. I've had cold water working again for a week or more now so am willing to say - good job! The piece that I replaced had splines all down the body and the tab on the end is narrower by about half. But the length is the same and the screws provided are a good match. I feel lucky!

They work. And Im happy
Better than the hard plastic originals. I had to use a razor saw and remove about a milimeter off the stop for mine, but you cant expect them to fit all different models of the Monticello line. And my shower unit is over 20 years old, I was just happy to be able to fet them. I went to 3 local plumbing supply houses in st.louis and not only didnt they have them, they had to use the part number I found here on Amazon just to look up to see they didnt have them. Lol a non professional can find the parts and stock numbers, but the pros cant.

YES! This worked as a replacement for a 97317 red faucet extension.
My faucets had no brand marking that I could find but searching faucet images revealed that they were Moen and the broken part I needed was a valve extension. I couldn’t find a part that exactly matched. I needed a 97317 and these looked close so I ordered them. They worked. The white one worked to replace the red 97317 that was broken.

Fits perfect
Went to the local hardware big box stores couldn’t find these extensions and the customer service personal in plumbing didn’t know what they were. Found them on Amazon. Amazing and they fit perfect.

exactly what I needed.
Not sure which one is suppose to be for cold or hot, just make sure you put them the right way, otherwise your taps will turn off the "wrong way".
