Easy to carry but it's definitely pleather
I've been getting a lot of compliments on this bag. The lining did NOT rub off on my things, as some reviews suggested, and there are two different-sized cell phone compartments, as well as a pocket in the liner, a compartment for a laptop, a divider for storing papers/folders, and several loops to hold pens, as well as an attached pouch for storing makeup/pens/etc. My favorite thing about this product is the way the handles are shaped. In the picture it looks like they are completely round, but in fact, they are rounded at the bottom and flat at the top. This makes the handles lay flat against my shoulder and stay in place. I tend to carry a lot of things, so most bags slip off my shoulder at some point, but I just took this bag on a round-trip cross-country flight and it never felt unwieldy or difficult to control. My least favorite thing about the bag is the finish. I like leather, and other reviewers said that the pleather on this bag looks expensive, but I think it still looks a little cheap close up. You can definitely tell it's pleather. Clearly, since I was complimented on the bag twice within the first week I carried it around, other people can't tell as much as I can. If you're picky about pleather, though, don't expect magic. It's kind of nice pleather, but it's only pleather :) My bag also got slightly scuffed within the first couple days I used it.

Great bag, but a little misleading
I chose this bag based on the appearance, product details and customer reviews. I was looking for a bag that was stylish, one that would carry my laptop as well as other "travel" items, and wouldn't look like a traditional, bulky laptop bag. Upon receiving the bag, it looked great! Although not leather, it does not look cheap and the faux croc design gives it added style. I love all the compartments and extra space for the things I need while traveling. In fact, it has replaced my purse as my one carry-on item. I can fit my laptop, reading materials (book, magazines, file folders), wallet, cell phone, lipstick, pens, etc. I especially like the metal "feet" at the bottom of the bag which protects it from scratches and overall wear and tear. It has perfectly matched my needs. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that although the product details indicate that it will fit a laptop up to 15.4" in width, my laptop is only 14.75" and does NOT fit in the laptop compartment (the compartment is too small). I am able to fit it in the bag, but it doesn't provide the padding and protection that the laptop compartment provides. I feel as though the advertising is misleading. Thankfully, I can make it work and I will continue to use the bag because I like it enough and it serves the purpose. If you have the same issue and can be creative in how you use the space, you'll love this bag!

I bought this bag in 2009 ... and it's still going strong!
I love this bag. I bought mine in 2009 and came back to Amazon today looking for it again because it's getting worn around the straps where I grip it and the zipper is starting to give on one side. I can attest to durability. There are no cracks in the "leather" except the handle part of the straps, the finish is still shiny, and the red interior is still beautiful... and I've used this bag pretty hard. I'm a teacher and higher education administrator so this bag has seen years of heavy use. The first few years I used it, I got compliments all the time and people thought it was real crocodile. With old age, it's more obviously not real leather, but it still looks very good. I'm going to get a new one and relegate my current baby to second string back-up bag. The only complaint I have is that in the newer version there are little flaps added to the bottom corners that, I think, take away from the bag aesthetically. The one I bought in 2009 didn't have the corner flaps nor the little leather slot-type part on the side. Otherwise, gorgeous bag that is definitely worth the cost.

Sturdy, Pretty, Functional
Transitioning to a new career, I needed a portfolio. I wanted something stylish, lighweight, functional, big enough for my 12" laptop and a few other necessities with lots of pockets for compartmentalization (sp?). I got all of that in this bag. I was worried that some said it looked blue but my bag looks black and the croc pattern looks so nice. The little bag inside and all of the little compartments really help one stay organized. It even has little stubs on the bottom to keep it from wearing poorly. The straps are long enough that I can put it on my shoulder, but short enough so I can hold it in my hands. I'm glad I made this choice. Edit: seven years later and this bag is still holding up great. The straps are finally showing some wear and tear and I've been looking for other bags in different colors so I revisited this page. I might have to just get some organizers for a couple of large leather purses I've found. I have a larger laptop now, 14", so, like some other reviews stated, I have to put the laptop in a different compartment but that doesn't really bother me much. TL;DR: I STILL love this bag!

Great bag but isn't very wide
This bag looks great! I like the size and the straps because they stay on my shoulders nicely. I also like that it stands up without tipping over. 2 things prevented me from giving 5 stars: ~ You can't put very much in this bag because it doesn't have a lot of "give". I put my laptop and a small notebook in this bag along with a few small toiletries when I travel and that's about all it wants to hold. If you tend to carry multiple items/books this bag will not be wide enough for you. ~ The red lining inside is pretty.. but it made my IPhone cord/headphones pink. Like - Bright pink :) Just be careful of putting anything white in this bag since it doesn't seem to be color safe.
