Genuine Mitutoyo

I got one that has the Mitutoyo name and part numbered stamped on it. It is high quality and accurate. Definitely worth the money. Btw. The center pivot does not get in the way at shallow angles like people said happened with the General.

Spot on, great quality

Great price on a well made tool, no complaints. Spot on accuracy at square and both sides of common angles I checked. The rule does have 32nds on the reverse - that doesn't seem to be stated anywhere but I was hoping it was the case, like the Starrett and old General. Surprised and pleased that it's made in the USA. All of the markings are crisp and readable. For tools like this I've usually gone with General or similar but since those have gone to pot and since I didn't want to pay more than double this price for the Starrett (as much as I like to and do try to support them), this Mitutoyo was a no-brainer-winner. Comes in a vinyl pouch. I wish this were available with an 8" rule, perhaps a combo 32nds/metric option. Good tool.

I did not see the name "Mitutoyo" on the item in the Amazon photo of it, so I was a bit cautious. The ad claimed Mitutoyo, but the photo didn't show it. I wanted a good brand, not like the unknown (and poor quality) generic protractor I currently have. I took a chance, ordered it, and upon opening it today... it says Mitutoyo. Note to vendor: Update your photo!!!

Disappointed

I saw the review which said this protractor does not line up at 90 degrees. I found that hard to believe with a Mitutoyo product but it turns out that I should have listened. When received it, I gave it an initial check by setting it to 90 with a precision square and found that it did not line up to 90 degrees. The protractor can be used with the ruler on the right or the left side of the 90 degree graduation but the problem exists on both sides. (See pictures) I also found that the steel rule will slide side to side in the clamp by almost 1 degree. My guess is that the slot the ruler rides in is too wide or the ruler itself is too narrow. Most of my tools are Mitutoyo and I have found them to be precise and very good quality. That makes this protractor a disappointment. On the plus side, the graduations are sharp and crisp.

Well worth the price

It's a nice tool! It comes in a nice thick vinyl case. It felt dry, so I had to add some choice oil to it in order to prevent corrosion. Plenty of space for engraving your name too. Nice tool!
