Perfect Door Hinge Prep
When I purchased this, I was thinking that maybe I should get a different product that clamped the template on instead of actually screwing the template to the door. Now that I have used this, I really appreciate that there is no chance for the template to move. Each prep is perfect. the process is simple, Measure from the top of the old door to the top of each hinge. Transfer that to the new door but add 1/2 the height of the hinge to each measurement. For example, the measurement from the top of my door to the top of the highest hinge was 7 inches, The hinge is a 3 1/2 inch hinge. Half of that is 1 3/4 inches. So, add these together to determine the Center Line for the hinge location - so, 8 3/4 inches. Mark this on the door as this template lines up on the Center Line Align the center of the template (which is marked) to your mark on the door. Hold it in place as you screw down one side. Then screw down the other side. It just takes a few seconds with the router bit provided to clear the prep for the hinge. The most difficult part is setting the depth for the router bit. You can get close by stacking a hinge on the template and eyeballing it. What is nice is that while the template is screwed to the door, you can slide a hinge into make sure the prep is deep enough. If not, adjust the router bit down until the hinge is perfectly recessed.

Lining up center & arrows not easy
Having to eyeball lining up the arrows with the center was unpleasant. Got so angry that I eventually took painter's tape to the backside before doing anything so I knew marks & center lined up. Once I started that, it was smooth sailing. Tip: use painters tape to connect two arrows on backside (inside) of jig to make sure it's centered instead of eyeballing it.

Easy assurance of an accurate fit.
This template provides assurance for an accurate fit. The only draw back is the holes you need to drill to fasten in place, leaving you with a need for wood putty or dowels to fill the holes.

Simple and effective
I am changing out all the doors in our house, and I’m always looking to save money, so after doing the math I purchased blank doors. This thing has made the hinge part super easy, and so far I haven’t regretted putting the extra work in. I would recommend it to anyone, and purchase again.

Low cost template for easy hinge cuts
Does a great job for hinge cuts. The centering of the template can be a bit of a challenge when trying to get the door hinge cuts aligned with the frame edge. If you're off a little, an oversize cut is needed, but this is a speedy tool.

Ok but fiddly.
This device did make it easy to cut the recess for the hinge and gave a neat finish. I is, however, designed for US hinges which are bigger than the hinges used in the UK. This made it more fiddly to position it on the door. Although the results were good the time taken to set up meant that it would have been as quick to use a chisel.
