Easy to crush meds.
I have arthritis in my hands and this helped me immensely with crushing my meds. It’s so easy to use and it came with plenty of bags to crush meds in.

Solved our problem
This unit was purchased to crush my mother's medications, since the effort we were expending on smaller pill crushers was too tedious and lacked consistent results. I like this unit primarily b/c it literally PULVERIZES pills into such small particles that they are MUCH easier to disintegrate into water, applesauce or Boost, etc. That was our goal, since our mother had neck cancer and her throat enclosure is much smaller than normal. Larger pill particles could easily get stuck if they were not fully crushed, and she would often choke while drinking her Boost with the meds previously. This item has resolved that issue with ease. My only minus on this item, besides the fact that it is likely too heavy for most seniors to use (it also takes some force to use the lever), is that is has proprietary bags which you will need to reorder. I understand the value for the mfr as they now get ongoing, repeat business for the disposable portion and that works well in hospital settings, but it is an added, albeit, nominal cost of continued use of the device. It may not be a best practice, but theoretically, one could reuse an existing packet/bag if one is administering the same meds over and over and stretch out the use of the packets provided with the unit. I am not advocating this practice, but it is a more frugal option IF AND ONLY IF the medication is exactly the same each time.

Expensive but worth the piece of mind
My child has epilepsy and can't swallow pills. We wanted to try a new medication but it only came in pill form. I bought a pill crusher at the pharmacy and it worked ok, but it was hard to get all the pill out and it was a lot of twisting. A friend that worked at a nursing home suggested this. It seemed expensive for what it does. I brought the crushed pill in the packet to the doctor office to make sure it was okay to be crushed to a powder. the doctor was impressed that we had bought the silent knight and said that is what the hospital used. While it is overpriced, it does mean my child is getting 100% of the medication, we even did blood work to confirm this. Over time this will pay for itself since many of the liquid medication cost more and now we can use this to crush other approved medications, I say approved because always make sure medications can be crushed first. As for use, you still need a decent grip and strength. It only takes 3 motions to crush our pill but I know people who are considering buying this might be older or have limited strength. One good thing is you can pre crush the pills and then heat seal the packets for traveling or for someone that might not be able to crush them themselves.

Hey - it crushes pills
A member of my family requires a fair number of pills each day, and cannot swallow properly due to several strokes. A suprising number of the pills prescribed are horse pills that the average horse would have difficulty swallowing whole. So, for the past several years I have have to cut them , them use a mortar /pestle arrangement to reduce them to the powder consistency required for insertion by G-Tube ("Gastrointestinal" tube for those of you fortunate enough not to be familiar with the prosthesis). I first saw the Silent Knight on a med cart at a Nursing Home. One SK crusher for 50 patients. The Silent Knight does a good job of crushing large pills down to sand -like consistency. BUT - for powder consistency , I still need to use the mortar/pestle ( actually an aluninum ice cream scoop and a corel plate) arrangement. Is it worth $80.00? It depends on whether you have good shoulder/arm strength/ If so, you may not need it. If you are getting old and feeble (or older and feebler?), or don't like to chase pill parts all over the kitchen floor, you may thank the inventor. This device allows you to crush pills with one to several strokes . The pills are placed in a heavy plastic baggie (small starter supply provided with the unit, more baggies availabe on separate order) so the debris doesn't go everywhere.

The Silent Knight is wonderful. I use it to crush pills for my dad who has swallowing issues and must have crushed pills with applesauce. It makes the crushing of pills so much quicker and efficient. Since I do not live with him, I set out a set of small dishes for the times I will not be at my parent's house.....crush the appropriate pills, put them in the glass dish, and cover it in plastic wrap with the day and time that it needs to be taken written in marker on the plastic wrap. When dad needs to take the crushed pills, he simply adds the applesauce to the dish. Still gives him some independence - yet makes me feel comfortable that he is getting the pills he needs when he needs. Just verify with the pharmacist that the pills you crush can be left in such a state for a period of a couple of days. If you are a caretaker, you will very much appreciate the Silent Knight! Worth every penny!

Pill crushing made easier!
After having used the manual hand held pill crusher that took its toll on my hands - this unit is a welcome relief. Simple - easy to use and effective in crushing pills to crumbs small enough to dissolve in water and pass through a feeding tube! Excellent unit and very sturdy - wholly recommend

Disappointed
Unfortunately this product not crush the pills enough so you end have to use the mortar&pestle anyway.
