I didn't realize I'd owned this for 12 years.
Apparently I've owned this tool bag for 12 years now. It still contains my most used tools for house repairs, it still basically looks the same as the day I got it 12 years ago. Incredible value for money.

Superb construction, but does have some design flaws
I've had this tote for about 3.5 months now and after beating it up nearly every day it is in almost perfect condition. It's pretty much what I was hoping for - strong, lightweight, comfortable, simple design; not too small nor large, perfect for smaller jobs like service calls and adequate for more as it can be loaded up in the easily accessible middle with a pile of (bigger) tools. Pros: - Lightweight yet very strong design, material. 15-20lbs of tools laying on the bottom hardly create a sag, and there's no tears or rips after some abuse. ***Edit: Ironically, 3 days after leaving this review I had the first seam failure with the bag on one of it's outside pockets. Partially my fault though as I had that pocket jammed fairly full with small pliers. - The shoulder strap is adjustable, removable, and the padding is comfortable and more than adequate even carrying 20+ lbs of tools. - There's lots of varying sized pockets on both sides inside, on one side outside, and on one end (for short, skinnier items such as pencils/short screwdriver/wrench etc.) - Open, spacious design makes finding and grabbing tools -nearly- effortless..see con-plaint below - Love the tape measurer clip and level straps - The price is outstanding. This tote on Amazon was ~30 dollars cheaper than a inferior, similarily designed tote. - Overall, the construction and materials are superb. Cons: - The pockets on the inner and outer sides are quite shallow (about 3.5-4") so this creates limitations on what tools I can place in them and are prone to losing/dropping things if I put too large a tool in - The loops/rings on the upper ends (intended for screwdrivers etc) are too large for the shanks of drivers and some handles of tools (such as pliers) to be adequately snug (ie not jostle around and fall over/out).. yet at the same time they're too small for some of the handles. A design flaw and minor inconvenience I guess. It's just annoying after a while to take the (seconds) time to tediously stretch the loops around the handles every time I put a screwdriver/chisel back in it's home. - Padding on handle, even though it seems to be of high quality material, has developed minor cracks/tears. It'll be easy to replace when the time comes, though. - One whole side is absolutely wasted space. sad face. Overall I'm pleased with this tote and it has served me well. The minor flaws it possesses are easy to look past and manage especially when considering the materials strength and durability. I've had some tool bags that began to rip and tear after a couple months, and were not nearly as comfortable to lug around. After some trials and tribulations during the first month or so of owning it, I've filled every pocket with tools I use often. *UPDATE Edit 12-27-2012 - Although one more outside pocket seam has failed, along with one inside, this is still my main tool bag after 1.75 years of abuse. It's developed a little more of a sag due to me stuffing 20+ lbs of tools and materials day to day. The handle pad is still comfortable enough despite having diminished in size and plushness.

Decent!
For the price range it is actually pretty nice, seems that you'll definitely get your money's worth out of it.

McGuire Universal Tote is well made
I bought this McGuire Nicholas 22217 16-inch tool bag at Amazon and a Husky 15-inch tote bag at Home Depot for almost at the same price. I am always in need of tool tote bags, so I buy them when I see a good deal. Both McGuire and Husky bags look similar; however, the Husky bag is much sturdier. The frame and fabric of the McGuire are softer and more flexible. It also have both inner and outer pockets whereas the Husky one has only outer pockets. The handle on the McGuire is a bit flimsier than that of Husky. If you need many individual pockets to store small hand tools, then the McGuire tote bag should be your choice. If you are looking for a very sturdy bag to carry portable circular saw or screw gun with some pockets for heavier knick knack stuff, then I would definitely go with the Husky bag.

Good Bag, could use more pockets
I like the fact that this bag is hard-sided - it keeps it open on the job site and all your stuff accessible. It is just large enough to fit a hammer and other similar size tools in the center, with enough pockets to hold screwdrivers, chisels, and an assortment of drill bits and punches. I use the level straps on the top to hold my prybar, which is too long to go in the basket. It is made of heavy-duty cloth, and I can't see it wearing through in the next several years. My only complaint is that two sides of the bag are nearly pocket-free, which seems a waste of space to me. I need all the pockets I can get. I much prefer this to a Bucket-bag that I used to have, because I don't have to dig into the center to find stuff.

Convenient and Economical
I was looking for a tote or bag that would hold some if not all of my tools that I use for pc maintenance and repair. This tote does all of that with room to spare (for now). It is rather sturdy with great construction and materials. The carrying handle being padded makes holding onto this both easy and comfortable. As for how durable this tote is, I have not placed it in harms way nor exposed it to rough environments as of yet, so I can't speak for its strength. The carrying bar in the middle is not removable so tall items will either be a bit awkward to retrieve or impractical to fit on the inside. The other pockets all seem to be well put together and the carrying strap is also well made. If you are looking for a convenient, economical, and well made tote for medium usage, this product should be ideal!

Tote-A-Ly Cool!
The McGuire Nichols Universal Tote is one sturdy tool bag! I can easily put together the tools needed for any project I am doing and carry them all in this bag. No running back and forth to the garage or to the basement because I wasn't able to carry everything I needed in one trip without dropping some tool. No going back because I forgot an item that I thought about but didn't have room to carry. The black and yellow color combination of this one and myMcGuire Nicholas 8-Inch Electrician Maintenance Tote looks great and is not easily overlooked. You won't forget this bag or mistake it for somebody else's. ~ The Boss UPDATE: November 24, 2006 I liked it enough to buy another as a gift. UPDATE: December 26, 2006 I should have bought two more instead of one as 'gift envy' was displayed over this tote and its matching electrician's bag. ~ The Boss
