Reasonable price, simple design, reasonably rugged, but very poor packaging that makes it very likely to arrive with damaged powder coating. I ordered two and both arrived with bare metal exposed at multiple locations.

Useful "extra hand" for supporting tailgate-mounted full sized-spare tire.

Given the relatively low price I am not expecting this to last a long time for heavy duty hauling but that is OK. The tread plate is not exactly square with the square tubing and so the plate is (slightly, but visibly) not parallel to the ground. The reason I bought this is to serve as a temporary place to support the weight of my 125 pound spare tire while I orient the lug holes onto the tire carrier on the back of the Jeep. Ideally I'd like the tube to be a little bit longer. I can make do without it but I bought a lightweight plastic hitch step (also from Maxxhaul https://www.amazon.com/MAXXHAUL-50234-Hitch-Mount-Bump/dp/B07XZX1TPD/) to extend the surface area even further away from the back of the Jeep to provide a more comfortable working area.

STURDY! Bought with the MaxxHaul 50023 Tightener Anti Rattle Stabilizer

I buy a lot of things on Amazon, but I hate having to buy this sort of thing without being able to see it first. There's just too much of an opportunity for someone to sell something that looks good in a photo, but turns out to be flimsy and cheaply-made. Not this extender! It's built solid and out of thick, strong, materials. I suspect that the load rating given for it is VERY conservative. I won't exceed that load rating, but I'm not going to be at all concerned about it doing the job, either. I also bought a MaxxHaul 50023 Tightener Anti Rattle Stabilizer to go with it, and would go so far as to say that it's a must-have part to accompany the extender. It wasn't but a few bucks more, and well worth the price. I'll be specifically looking for the MaxxHaul brand for any future purchases.

Excellent for my needs

I have a slide in camper in my truck. The camper extends beyond the truck bed by about 10 inches. Other hitch steps were pretty useless because they were too short. This thing extends far enough beyond the camper overhang to allow easy and safe access/egress. It does rattle because it lacks any mechanism to snug it up in the receiver, but that's not a deal breaker considering the convenience. It's fairly heavy, and I don't expect it to bend or break under normal use. Better than carrying a separate stool or short ladder.

Quality material

I bought this hitch step in 2017 when I had my Jeep Wrangler. I now have a Winnebago Revel on a Mercedes Sprinter chassis. I was rear ended last weekend when the car behind me failed to stop in traffic. The hitch step took almost all of the impact. Very little damage to the Benz. The offending car was towed away from the scene. The step bent, but protected the van. I am ordering another to replace the damaged one.

Perfect addition to any trailer hitch, especially when you have a lift gate

This was the perfect addition for use with my SUV. I have a trail hitch mounted cargo rack and when it is mounted onto the trailer hitch, I could not get my lift gate opened without collapsing it all of the way down. With the addition of this hitch extender, not only did it add a step for me to stand on and reach the cargo carrier I occasionally place on the roof of my SUV, but it also allowed my hitch mounted cargo rack to extend far enough away that I can now open my lift gate, even with the cargo rack fully loaded down. Even if I flip the cargo rack up into stow away mode, it is still far enough away to open the lift gate without hitting the cargo rack. Perfect solution to a first-world problem.

Perfect for shallow boat ramps

Extension is the perfect length for launching my boat and without dunking expensive truck wheels. Only downside is the sharp corners of the step will cause injury when reaching around to connect safety chains and is reflected in the rating. Had to round the step corners and repaint, so we'll how long before rust sets in after breaking through the powder coat. Would be rated a 5 if some human factors was involved in manufacturing.

Great little helper!

Extremely happy! Just purchased a 2007 Jeep Liberty. We want to put a cargo rack on top, but damn near impossible to get to the roof by the truck. This was almost perfect. With the trunk closed, the spare tire doesn’t let you get up there. This comes out just a inch or two past the spare. This gives you room to get in the step. With the trunk open, the step is full accessible. There was a little slop in it, like other reviews. I just took a couple of small pieces of steel banding, or shims, and shoved it in between the receiver and this. No rattle whatsoever. I looked at a few others, think I made the right choice. Highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed.

Great addition for the front hitch for doing any service under the hood with the added extension I put on that piece. with the through hole another ball or any kind of attachment can be put on. Works and looks great.

Solid quality

Very handy platform to have as an extension. The build quality is great and far surpasses its price point. Remember that once you install this, you shouldn’t be towing more than 4,000 lbs.

Great product and it does a great job at clearing the 35/12.5 spare tire at the back of my Jeep so I can use the hitch with a cargo basket.
