Works 100% the same as the original on old Craftsman lawn tractor

My old green Craftsman lawn tractor is 25 years old and the Kohler engine still runs strong. I began having problems with starting - I had to push the key up while in the starting position. Obviously the switch was wearing out. I almost ordered the P/N listed in the owner's manual, but I remembered there was something different about the switch than the diagram showed. Sure enough, the manual showed 3 position switch with a separate headlight switch. This switch has the headlight position and the same number and configuration of wiring terminals. It was a quick plug-n-play swap, taking less than 5 minutes in total and all functions are correct.

Perfect fit replacement

Well, not completely perfect; it uses a standard nut to hold the ignition switch in. I used the old one, although the new one would have done the job just as well. I just wanted to keep the stock look. Otherwise, it's absolutely perfect. I was thrilled to find this particular switch at such a reasonable price, and it works perfectly. It's a real thrill to be riding around mowing the grass instead of working on the silly mower! The extra pins (compared to most riding mower ignition switches) just run the headlights, the switch has 4 positions instead of the normal 3. Off, ON with headlights ON, ON with headlights OFF, and START. The pinout is different than a generic switch too, so a five pin switch won't plug in. I believe the functions are the same, I was about to start cutting wires and adapting to a generic switch when I found this 7 pin on Amazon. I didn't actually DO the conversion, as I found the correct replacement part, so I don't KNOW that it would work. I had purchased a separate switch for the headlights, but obviously never had to use it.Good luck if you decide to try to rewire for a 5 pin, it SHOULD work. 8^)

Great product exactly what was described fits just like original ignition switch used on an older craftsman riding mower easy too install mower wiring harness connected perfectly no issues im very please with this product for the price and quality I highly recommend this product

It was a perfect fit for a lawnmower of 18 years.

I like the description given and felt confident thru the pictures and info this would be the right choice. It was, works fine, no problems. Price was right. It was like where would you go to find one of these.

Back in buisness

As far as the ignition switch goes the install was easy and worked fine. What ticked me off was that the original switch melted the plug on the wiring harness and the harness was no longer available. I had to purchase a similar harness, cut and splice some wires but managed to get it working. Between the switch, wiring harness, battery removal and re-install it only took about 3 hours of my time. The real kicker was that Sears did not mention the alternate harness. I found out about that out from an online consumer forum. Sears/Craftsman used to keep parts for their products if they were 30 years old. This was for my $3,000.00 garden tractor purchased in 2002 and, as far as I'm concerned, does not make for loyal customers.

Fits and works like the original

Product fit perfectly. Worked like a charm. I just re-used the original rubber cover and the retainer from the original switch.

Ignition Switch For Craftsman Ride On Mower

This was a perfect replacement for the original switch. A very well made product. Mine came with two keys. I installed the switch in a Craftsman ride on lawnmower.
