Peace of Mind
My wife and I are feeling the effects of aging. We are not as spry or as resilient as we were. Having the Moen Peened Grab Bars helps to prevent us from slipping and falling in the shower. The peening provides a secure grip.

Bath tub grab bar install project
Summary: Adding a few grab bars to dad's shower. I used a lot of products for this project, so including all related products in this review. Recommendation: 1) When mounting grab bars, it's always easier if you can find the stud to attach to. In this vertical install, I decided to use a stud and Wing-Its anchors; partially because I wasn't sure I could hit both, and didn't want to put two fasteners vertically (on either the right or left only), but that would also position the bar in the shower a little too far in (towards the shower control). 2) The WingIts requires a 3/4" hole through the mounting material. For tile, this can be especially challenging. I used the SHDIATOOL diamond 3/4" bit, with the DRILLAX adapter to get through the tile, and then used the 3/4" BOSCH bit to finish through the dry wall. Also used the BOSCH bits for the other small hole. Having the right tool for the job is the difference between project completion, and a messy, disaster. Satisfied, but with some reservations
This 16-inch bar was part of a project that also involved its 32-inch sibling, plus locally-purchased Moen custom anchors - a one-shot DIY add-on in a 1951-era tiled bathtub enclosure. The 16-inch bar is mounted horizontally on an end wall (on studs). The 32-inch bar is mounted horizontally on the long wall (using Moen anchors). I am delighted with the result. If I had this to do over, I would make the same choices as to bar lengths and material/finish. But I would probably choose a larger diameter for the 32-inch bar. As to brand, I am certainly satisfied with this product. However, I might do some more research before settling for this same choice again. Miscellaneous notes that may be helpful... Scuff rings on bar (not a big deal for me, but might bother you)... If the flange covers are loose on the bar during shipping, the result can be scuff marks on the bar. I consider this a packaging or factory-handling problem. You might want to blue-tape the bar to avoid scuffs as you move the covers during installation. Moen-supplied screws... Moen supplies 2-inch stainless screws for stud mounting. I needed 2.5-inch screws. Since the Moen screws were unusual in having extra-wide heads (more overlap on the flange edges), and since the quantity needed was small, I asked Moen to supply. They said no, and directed me to my local hardware store. Right. Fortunately, I live in a city with a screw-supply specialty store - where they came up with both the matching stainless screw (from the head down) and a stainless washer of just the right inner and outer dimensions to add the shoulder width (all for a total cost of about $1.50). Bad marks to Moen for failing to appreciate that longer screws are not readily available. Moen wall achors... They are impressive. They even allow for some late tuning during the final tighten-down. But there is NO tolerance for error. In my case, things were so close that I was afraid to pop one of the covers down to the wall for fear of being stuck with the other cover hung up on the anchor rim. So I decided not to risk it - I set both covers resting on the anchor rims, and did a final white caulk run of the 1/8 inch from cover to wall - which actually looks better to my eye than the cover-to-wall installation. Caulking in general. Moen mentions that you might want to caulk between the flange and the cover, but leaves you on your own to develop a theory of how-much and where. I have since been noticing how often these Moen bars are use in dry locations such as hallways and restroom stalls; So maybe Moen is intentionally avoiding giving advice on wet locations. And maybe tub professionals make other choices for more simplicity in this matter. Caulk, and the circular gap between the bar and the cover (which I consider a bit unsightly)... I started with the theory that I could create a dam between the flange and the cover, and fill with just enough silicone caulk to squeeze out through the gap and into a neat ring as the cover was pushed down. My success rate was one in four. For the other three, I cut the extra extruded silicone flush with the cover. Then I used 1-inch silicone tape - several wrapped layers (stretching as you go) around the bar right up against the face of the cover, then rolled from the outside edge to the cover. Makes something like a fat round silicone rubber-band. Not totally water tight, but visually satisfying, and easily replaceable. The bottom line is that the Moen choice may have added some complexity to my project. On the other hand, I am happy with the result.

Sturdy in studs
I installed in minutes. I ended up using 2" deck screws since the included screw heads kept stripping. 3 screws on each end into studs and this thing is solid. I purchased it again.

Exactly what I needed!
I installed this in our bathroom. Almost perfect. Some of the online videos showed a slightly better mount-configuration but this one worked very, very well.

I highly recommend this grab bar.
We installed this grab bar near the toilet, after a knee surgery, to keep from pulling on a towel bar. It took awhile (find the studs, get the right drill bit to go through tile and wood, get someone who was able to find the best angle for it, and had the know how and patience) to install it. It was definitely worth it! It provides a comfortable, secure support for a nearly 300# person to be able to rise to a standing position, without assistance.

Sturdy product
Installed vertically to help getting in and out of tub. Very sturdy and installed easily after finding wooden stud behind tile wall.
