You get what you pay for
I only needed a dozen or so - foreseeably - in this size and the Irwin was out of stock - so I bought this thing. It's not an Irwin; the cost was cheap and the result is about what I expected. I own extended augers in 7/16" (lag screws) 9/16" (1'2" carriage bolts) , 13/16" (3/4" pins) all in Irwin and all used well over time so I have an opinion and a references to back it up. This got the wobblies - out of straight - on the first hole. The good news is the temper is so bad I straightened it in the drill chuck. The bad news is . . . I could straighten it in the drill chuck. I babied my way through the landscape timbers and got it done. But I will buy an Irwin the next time this diameter comes up. It will just make this size the most expensive in the lot.

Used and abused for drilling holes in my lawn
I bought this drill bit to drill holes in my lawn for small-area aeration. It was the only tool I could find for this application. (All of the lawn "coring tools" plugged-up with the core.) I was amazed that this drill bit kept on going even when drilling dirt. It has not lost any ability to drill into hard dirt even after extensive use. A plus for this use is that it does not extract a core, but rather pulls out ground-up dirt from the hole, thus making it easier for the extracted soil to reintegrate with the lawn.

A Very Sharp and Strong Auger Bit
I have been using this bit to drill holes in several oak and elm tree stumps in my yard to speed up the decomposition process. This bit drills right up to the chuck on the drill with no problem. It helps to pull it out and clear the flighting when it gets really deep in the bore, but otherwise, it clears the cuttings well. I’ve run about fifty holes in so far, and it’s still sharp. Other bits I’ve used get dull quickly in the hardwood, or break off under load. Not this one.

Excellent bit
Went thru railroad ties like a hot knife thru butter.

Amazing for the money - for any cost really
I’ve drilled over 30 holes through 5-6” stack ups of pressure treated pine and cedar posts and this thing basically pulls itself through. Still sharp as the day it arrived. Would not hesitate to buy it.

13" overall length, about 10.5" usable
I was looking for a drill bit that would drill 10 1/4" deep, so I bought this. It's listed as a 13" drill bit. Maybe I missed something saying how long the usable length is, but this bit is 13" overall length, which means after you chuck it up your left with about 10.5" of usable length. It'll work for my application but if you need more than that this 13" bit won't get you there. Would be nice if that was readily available before purchase. Will update after im done using it and see how it holds up. Update. If you plan on drilling through anything but super soft wood, stay away. It bent like a banana after drilling one hole. The core of the bit is only about 1/16 with he flutes running up it, see photo compared to a good drill bit. It may be good for really light use but a drill bit this long needs to be much sturdier

Great bit
Have drilled over 50 holes through 6" yellow pine. About another 50 holes to go. Still sharp enough to cut my finger. Will buy again.

Amazing bit
No matter what the other reviews say , I’m a woodworker / carpenter this bit is by far the best I’ve ever used , very sharp and pulls right thru the wood clean.
