Best $20 I ever spent!
This is genius! It is so simple and convenient I'd "almost" say it's a pleasure to use... it certainly makes managing the litter trays a much much more pleasant job than it used to be. I keep it right next to the litter tray and every time I walk past I glance to see if it's been used. If it has; I just grab the scoop (conveniently mounted on the side of the genie) and remove any clumps. I've had it for a month now and here are my observations: * In 4 weeks I have just emptied it for the second time, so for me it has indeed been two weeks per bag change. (My cat is an indoor/outdoor cat. I've found that since having this system, with a clean litter tray now always available, the litter tray is now first choice! Which means less cat poops to come across while working in my yard... bonus! * I estimate that I used maybe 18-24" of bag each time. (I used more bag length than needed the second time and had wasted space so I'll watch that). Overall I'd guess for the 14' cartridge length that I'll get 9 bags full which is <$1/bag... but I'll start measuring and try to get 10 out of a cartridge. * I've found it important that I use a clumping litter, and to keep it deep enough for poop to get buried and that you can easily scoop whole clumps without it bonding to the bottom of the tray - that way no soiled litter is left behind, and therefore no smell. I top up the litter as needed. * I removed the hooded cover from my litter tray and now have it open. This is for my convenience as it makes it so much easier to keep on top of things by simply scooping anything I see whenever I walk past. (I did read that cats prefer an open tray anyway; closed boxes were apparently made for us humans to help contain smells and unsightly messes). On the downside though... Litter depth is still a work in progress: too deep and litter gets spread everywhere, too shallow and clumps stick to the tray bottom as previously mentioned. * So far no marathon clean of the litter tray has been needed! Before this system I admit that I didn't scoop as often as I should have done, which meant things got a bit messy. I would remove any business but not top up the litter, then when it got very low it was time to empty the whole tray and give it a good clean. Having the genie and really keeping on top of things means the litter actually stays clean. * I periodically use a sanitizing wipe to clean it, particularly the inside black plastic cover of the bag cartridge. Simple. There really is zero odor in the house. I've even had comments from guests who are surprised when they see the litter tray and say they had no idea because they couldn't smell a thing. I have one small negative comment about the design: The catch that holds the bottom half closed doesn't work very well. It barely catches and easily comes open if I pick it up. For me this doesn't matter because I'm not picking it up and moving it anyway so I didn't even deduct a star because of all the positives for me. I don't write reviews very often but the litter genie impressed me so much by the positive impact it has had. Like my title says: best $20 I've spent in a while. I would definitely recommend it to anyone sitting on the fence about whether or not to buy one.

Keeps odors in. Very satisfied.
Updated review: I'm still very satisfied with my purchase. The bag refill it came with lasted over a month/about 5 to 6 weeks. The one thing I would ding them on is the fact that the refills give no warning when you are getting low. I had a refill pack of 2 on hand because one of the reviews warned about this. If they could show a black line, for instance, when you are down to 15 inches or less, that would be tremendously helpful. For instance, I cut my bags super low to reduce waste/make them last. I leave just enough head space to tie a knot. If I had known that I only had about 5 inches of refill left - not enough to make a new bag - I wouldn't have wasted time on the "meticulous tie off" with barely enough head room for a knot. Other than that, this has still been a great purchase to keep my home smelling fresh. Original review: New kitten mom here. I had no idea how bad clumps of kitty litter mixed with pee and poo could still smell when you seal it in a bag with a knot tied in the top if it and put it in the trash. Was feeling very unsanitary. Seriously. I had to take the trash out daily and find a new solution. This is it. I still seal the waste in these little 1.3 gallon trash bags before putting in in the litter genie. I smell nothing. I just toss a weeks worth of waste on trash day and even opening it up the genie on trash day is not an ordeal. The waste is still kind of sealed off from you if you quickly twist, cut, and knot the bag. Also, using the little 1.3 gallon bags to scoop the waste into before tossing in the Genie helps too. So even when you tie off the old bag and start a new one, you barely smell anything at all. Can't believe I hesitated over this purchase. There was a lot of info overload yet not enough info at the same time, imo. The description did not give me a clear indicator of how long the bag that comes with it lasts. I couldn't even fully envision how it worked from the description. I've never used a diaper genie or anything similar. Basically a "refill" is one long bag that you cut at the end of each week (or however often you dispose of waste) and tie off with a knot to start a new little bag. You use this handy little cutter that is built in to cut off the old bag...and even the tie off of the old bag is easy because the waste has been pushed into the bottom compartment of the genie so you're tying off the part filled with waste while it is still away from you a bit. Also, while researching, the refills seemed expensive and I couldn't tell how long the refills last. I picked up refills from Walmart for cheaper than what they are sold for on Amazone...about $14 for a 2 pack I believe, but I'm still on the bag that came with my genie. I only have one 12 to 14 week old kitten so in a week's time, I'm only disposing of about a foot of the bag, if that. I probably have 4 more uses. But I also picked up an adapter on Amazon just in case the bag prices go up or I can't purchase them due to supply issues. I can use a regular garbage bag if I need too. Very satisfied. House smells great.

Loving it so far
I wish I would have bought this when I adopted my cats 11-12 years ago respectively. Better late than never though! Rather than lugging heavy bags of cat poop down to the trash bins every day, this allows us to scoop whenever we see the litter boxes have been used and walk away. There’s no smell that is noticeable to us. We have two cats so one “bag” lasts about 5-6 days before it’s time to tie it off and make a new “bag”. It takes a couple tries to determine how much plastic you need to use for each bag, but you quickly get a feel for it. Not sure how long the entire cartridge itself will actually last but I have a three-pack of refills on the way so we’ll be ready.

WOW! Wonderful product!
I was so happy to find this Litter Genie Pail to help keep the litter box clean. My cat would find places inside the house to do his business if his litter box wasn't clean. It was difficult to keep up with him. Since I have the Litter Genie setup next to his litter box in the garage, we have not had a mess in the house. He is happy and I am happy!

Game-changer for apartment people!
I was debating if I really needed a litter genie for the longest time. The daily trips to the trash chute were frustrating, and the number of trash bags I was using was eye watering. Finally, I reached a point where I could take it no more - and decided to make the investment. It just took me one YouTube video to figure out the setup. It lasted one week for my one cat. Odor became a thing of the past - and my cat always had a clean box to do his business. I knocked off a star because the lid on the litter box snapped off within 2 weeks of use. I've been doing fine without it, but obviously it would have been great if that hadn't happened

Pros and Cons - had to find YouTube video to figure out set up
This is a pretty good product and it does keep the smell out. Here are the things I don't like: 1. the bags are not compostable and the replacement bags are expensive 2. when you scoop, you make a litter trail to the bin; so you have to have it close to the litter box 3. the scoop is too fat and it removes way too much litter when scooping; I kept using the one I already had. This is what I did to fix the issue of the bags. I bought compostable bags from Amazon and inserted it into the bin over the expensive bags it comes with. When its full I just remove the compostable bag and leave the manufactures bag in place. I bought 150 compostable bags for $20 and its much better for the environment. Make sure you get bags that are LONG enough. The ones I bought are 4 gallon ASIN B07TF7D292 Hope this helps!

I would give it zero if I could
So what is the point of this overpriced hunk of plastic? The purpose of my purchase was to seal the oder, but no - this "genie" works like this: you put in the litter, then press the button and the "hatch" opens so the excrement can drop into the "bucket". However, when the door opens, it exposes all past litter and the wafts of stench are nauseating. I'd rather just put the litter in the garbage and then take the garbage out. A refund would be appreciated but the company probably won't offer that. If you are reading this review, then I have received no refund or compensation. If I have, I will remove my review.

The original refill lasted 2 month for 2 cats
First off I love this pail. It comes with a filtering scoop. It blocks odours from past scoopings. When full it has a handy cutter to slice the continuous bag - from there twist tie the full bag and tie a knot in the continuous bag to start again. Some people complain about the high cost of refills. The refill that came with the unit lasted me exactly two months for my two fast growing kittens. I let the bags fill completely before changing them. You can decide the cost by searching for the refills and using my experience as a guide.

Should've bought this years ago
I have two large boy cats in a 600 sq ft condo. The litter box is in the shoe closet right by the front door since that's really the only place i can put it, so I have always been extremely sensitive to how it smells cause who wants to come home to litter box smell.. I was literally changing the litter at least once, if not twice a day and always had poop bags sitting by the door. This thing changed my life. It literally seals any sort of odour away. I do a quick scoop in the morning into this thing and never, ever smell a thing. Cats are happy cause the box is always clean, i'm happy cause my house smells good. People say the refills are expensive but you can also just use the dorm size garbage bags just as easily.
