Perfect set up for the Christmas tree with toddler

The media could not be loaded. So far a perfect train for the Christmas tree. I have a 3.5 year old daughter, and she loves it. She can use the remote control to run the train and sounds with no problems. One of the train cars has removable open blocks as cargo. So you can remove the blocks and put little people in train car, or flip the blocks upside down and place items inside the blocks and put back on the cargo car. Set comes with enough track to make around the tree with no problem. But I ordered the extra straight track to be able to make track longer. So I made it the track just a little wider, and longer. Train seems to run great on the track, hasn’t come off the track yet for me on its own. My daughter likes to stop the train and add or take off items from the cargo car. So she has knocked of the track a couple times while doing that. Which is expected. But she can’t put the cars on the track herself. So there is a little finesse involved lining the wheels onto the track correctly. Only issue I have is when the train is stopped in the idle, it makes a constant sound. An idling train sound. But that is a minor annoyance that I have gotten used too. I think having the remote is a must!! My daughter loves being able to control the train. Stopping and going to load her little figurines, and to control the sounds of the train. So for me, the remote is a must have, and at least one train car where your kid can load and unload little cargo.

Fun! Very easy to use! A little loud

This train came with plenty of track! We put it around the base of our Christmas tree and there was plenty of room we could have even made it the larger square track if we wanted too. Very easy to assemble and the train looks great. It has a few sounds and different noises that it makes that sound very clear they are on the louder side but not a big deal. The remote is very straight forward even my 3 year old is a pro! We are very happy with this Christmas addition!

Good train

I bought this train to put around my Christmas tree. I’ve had a train for as long as I could remember every year and when I opened my original train, I found out it had broke. So I needed to but a new one and went this train. Overall I’d say this train is great; Pros: lightweight, decent size, easy to assemble and use Cons: can’t turn the sound off or lower it, plastic made if dropped probably won’t survive the fall I would still recommend this train for its affordable and a nice addition to the Christmas spirit of decorations

Grandson Loves This Train.

Grandson loves this train, BUT, the track needs improvement. It comes apart easy, it needs a better design in my opinion.

WAAAAY too underpowered and the coupling system is terrible

In theory, this is a great value. Any kid loves a toy train set and you don't need much to have all the fun that ANY model train set of any price point offers. This has a good looking train with some great sounds, an easy to use variable remote control and the track is cheap and easily available to expand out - heck you can even 3d print this stuff. Simple does it. However, you do need two things this train does NOT offer for the full experience. That is - power, even with I think six C batteries, this train barely moves after a round or two around the track. It's clearly operating at the very very bottom of it's voltage needs with those 6 batteries. It works spritly for a minuite or two and then grinds to a halt. After a brief pause allowing the battery 'sag' to dissipate, the train will move again. (batteries will lose voltage as they are worked but that voltage returns slowly at rest, gradually losing max voltage as the energy is used up) Sure, it's cool that you can get the train to move again after a rest, but what this is really doing is having tens of thousands of parents across the world with these trains throw away thousands of otherwise good C -size batteries thinking the batteries are used up when they are actually brand new. What a waste. In addition to that, the coupling system makes it so the train can't handle even the slightest bump or slope so if you've got a rug, or anything like that under your Christmas tree this train will endlessly disconnect from it's cars if it doesn't stall out trying to scale a 1/4 inch change in elevation. What's the worst about this is these problems could have been so easily avoided without affecting the price and could offer Lionel a great source of revenue by having a simple lithium ion rechargeable battery pack that people might want to buy an extra of so their kids can keep playing and a coupling system reliable enough that people would want to buy more track to go more places. But without the power or the ability to stay connected, I'm sure most folks aren't willing to buy more track, and avoid pulling it out at Christmas time so they don't have to spend a fortune on disposable C batteries to keep the kids from throwing a fit. Cool idea, ruined by the absolute stingiest cost-cutting efforts you can possibly aim for.

Couple annoying things.

Really like the train overall but you have to switch on the train and the remote, but if you do it in that order, the train makes an ugly sound until the remote is switched on, a single beep would suffice. Also, the thing I hate most is that you can not turn off the sounds completely or even adjust the volume.

Perfect for under the Christmas tree!

Gave this to my brother as a Christmas present - he wanted one to run around the base of his Christmas tree. He's pretty particular about things and I knew he wanted a more "hobbyist" type train, but those are really expensive, especially considering the intended purpose. To be honest, when I first received it and it was still in the box, it looked like it was intended for a 4-10 year old, but once it was out of the box and set up, it was absolutely perfect! Runs really well and, despite my initial impression, it's the perfect size for under a 6+ foot Christmas tree. The only downside I could notice (and there may be a way around this, but I didn't find one in the short time I was admiring it) was that it made the basic "train on tracks" sound the entire time it was running. The horn and music were able to be toggled on and off with the remote, but would be nice to be able to run the train without the "chuga-chuga" noises. It wasn't excessively loud though, so certainly not worth returning it. All in all, this is a great train for its purpose! The seller was really great - she reached out to me after the purchase to make sure I was completely satisfied and offered a pre-paid return shipping label, just in case there were any issues. I'm very pleased with the product and service!

Fun for the family

Easy to assemble...cute chugging around the Christmas tree sounding its whistle. Fun my grandson is not quite 3 years of age I maybe should have waited until next year to give it to him because he continue to derail it. But oh well I loved watching chugging along. ♥️????

Lots of motor noise but great for kids

I give only 4 stars because my son has another Lionel Ready to play and the sounds are great and the motor noise is minimal. This one, the motor noise is so loud you can hardly hear the chugging over it. Not sure if that’s just this one or if it’s all of them. My son still loves it, just pretty disappointing for a single mom to spend over $100 on a train and it not be great.
