Expensive
The switch I was replacing was German. It had a light on the switch to indicate it was on and dimmer for brightness. The Leviton was ok. Dimmer function, but no light on the switch, altho that really isn't necessary. However, I had two problems with it. First, the price - $29.55 each for a light switch doesn't make sense - way too expensive. Secondly, the wiring inside the switch was different - one wire connected to the terminals, the other needed no connection. The original switch had terminals for both wires, so I would have had to splice one side of the lamp wire. I decided that between the cost and the splicing, I would return both switches and keep looking for a cheaper alternative that was more similar to the original.

It works, but it's bigger than they say
The dimmer works well, but it's a lot bigger than they say -- it is 3.25 x 1.25 x 1.25" (product description says 2.1 x 1.3 x 0.4"). The design and size make it look like something from the Soviet Union. Wiring it in is a little tricky because the innards are not fixed in place while you have it open. I put lamp cord through it (18-gauge) but I think thicker 16-gauge wire would fit through. I would return it because of the size, but the other full range dimmer I found (B001118DII) is even bigger, and the only smaller one I found (B000BQRQ32) is *not* a dimmer, but an off-low-high switch. I suppose dimming circuitry just can't be made smaller. But they should correct the listed dimensions.

It works - but you get what you pay for - low quality feel and difficult to wire
I agree with other reviewers that this is a cheap feeling dimmer switch that is very difficult to wire. I got it done but there were no instructions provided and one has to really think out how the wiring is going to be laid inside the switch because the flow path for the wires is very tight. This is a classic case of "you get what you pay for". It took me a few iterations but I finally got it done and the switch does work as intended, it just doesn't have a "quality" feel. Unfortunately it was the only in-line dimmer I could find on-line. I've been using it over the last month and have had no problems.

What a find!!!!!
For the last 40+ years I've had almost the exact same inline rheostat on two wall mounted lamps on either side of our fireplace. I accidentally burnt it up and wondered what I was going to do so I decided to ping Amazon to see if I could find something that would work and sure enough they had almost an exact match. I'll bet the internal workings are a little different, updated components, but it works just like the previous rheostat As I said, "what a find!" I've been a customer of Amazon.com since 1997 when they only sold books and I am still surprised at what I find!!!!

Power mixer speed solution
This product I installed on my wife’s hand mixer. Her hand mixer had different speed settings, but ALL SPEEDS were turbo and would throw stuff all around when ever she would use it. This dimmer switch fits inline on the cord and it allows infinite mixer speeds when using her hand mixer. In stallationis not difficult, you need to pa attention to the instructions, when cutting the correct wire on the mixer cord, stripping the wire, installing, and reassembly. I works great and it’s worth it.

Good switch but a bit tough to install
The space for the wires is so small I really had to push to get it to fit right. The switch also doesn't allow 100% voltage at its maximum position. I tested it with a meter, and mine maxes out at about 87%, so the light bulbs won't get to their max brightness. But I just use this for a dim bedside table lamp, so it works out all right in my case.

In-line full-range dimmer
This dimmer is much better than the wire-piercing tabs type. The traditional terminal screws tighten wires securely. However the two screws to reassemble the housing are not as good as the nuts and machine screws previously used on this unit, No. 6250. Several stores I checked don't have this dimmer, so I plan to order more on-line as we like in-line dimmers and this full-range dimmer works well. My order arrived quickly, too.

Works OK, but electrically sensitive components.
Expensive overkill, I feel. It dims OK, but, as others have said, it is very difficult to fit wires into it. One must strip and anchor the hot lead under 2 screws, and then somehow force the wires into the case, a tricky proposition. It is big and clunky, but works fine. For some reason, it contains a circuit board, which blew out when a wire shorted 1 foot away from it. ??? It is about the only one which appears to be designed for this, with a linear dimming capability.

Recommend using with Incandescent
The dimmer is held together with two screws on the housing, and all that you need to do once it's open is separate the two insulated sections of wire on the lamp cord, strip the insulation off one half, and feed the wire through the two screw tensioned contact posts. Works great with Incandescent bulbs. This product won't work with standard CFL bulbs to do what you'd expect - CFLs are not normally dimmable. They have to be made to do that, and dimmable CFLs are uncommon and quite pricey. The back of this dimmer notes that it's for Incandescent bulbs only, however. I purchased this switch to replace a 20 year old switch that had failed on the cord for one of my lamps.
