Less Bright Than You Expect

Philips Hue lights are on the expensive side and the exterior lights all seem to be on the dim side. Negatives aside, the light fixtures look very high end and install very simply. It is very easy to add them to the Hue app, and in over six months of use, I’ve never experienced any issues with any of my Hue exterior lights. In addition, you are able to add them to your Google Home app and perform some limited functions through that app as well. While they do look very pretty, I took a star off for the lack of brightness. Even at pure white with 100% brightness, they are probably still the dimmest exterior lights I’ve ever seen. When you switch it to color mode, it get significantly more dim, especially with deeper colors. If you don’t need a ton of light or have other lighting that will supplement these, the light it casts on the building looks phenomenal and you won’t find a light that’s easier to install. If this will be your only source of light, you better bring a flashlight or pick something else. Recommended with caveat.

Brightness could be better

I just installed this product, and I have to say overall very happy with it. Other reviewers have commented that it could be brighter, and I agree with that. I have to say, though that the Hugh ecosystem is just unmatched in this regard. I do wish they had some other more stylish options, but until another company makes a concerted effort to compete with Hue they will remain the standard. Well engineered.

Very smart light

In saying that maybe I should say it made me feel smart to buy it. I’ve had hue lights for some years now and use em all over the place, within reason cuz they’re not cheap. I needed to put up a light and found this. Given the price of this and the ways of the world i expected a flimsy product with a lot of plastic. Upon getting I find a substantial well built and very sturdy device. And best of all a fine looking modern fixture. It’s so nice I’d like to change out more lights with this. The fact that it’s got a hue lamp built in makes this very well designed device cool too. I recommend!

Love this light fixture! Just what I was looking for.

I have always been a big supporter of Hue lights. I’ve tried many other less expensive smart home brands in attempt to save money and nothing else compares. They’re bright, vibrant, reliable, and the Hue app is beautifully integrated with their hardware. So they’re well worth the price point in my opinion. This fixture was very easy to install and looks sleek and modern. Materials are also noticeably high quality. It just feels sturdy and well made. My one major complaint, is that the bulb they include in this $100 fixture is an old model so it doesn’t have the ability to do the flicker effects that newer bulbs have. I had to switch it out with one of my new bulbs to get this feature, which I think goes well with an outdoor lantern. Kinda gives it that old gas lamp effect. It just annoys me a little that I splurge on these expensive smart bulbs and fixtures and receive an outdated bulb. But I guess everyone cuts corners where they can these days. Deducted a star for this reason, but other than that it’s a great light fixture.

For the smart home !!

Phillips hue has been on the market for quite some time. I was looking for a light that I could easily integrate through my Alexa devices & I decided to take a chance. First, this light does NOT come with mounting hardware. I had to go to my nearest hardware store and buy tapcon screws as I was mounting this device on concrete. I recommend taking the light to the hardware store and showing it to someone who has knowledge on what tools you will need. You will also need a drill, drill bit (I used a concrete drill bit), Phillips screw driver, 16 gauge wire connectors, clear waterproof silicone, tapcon screws (I mounted on concrete)& a leveler. Seems like a lot but trust me..it’s not. I try to do what I can in the house without having to hire an expensive electrician. In my location I am able to install lights like these without needing a permit. Once you decide where you would like to place the light you must FIRST go to the breaker box and turn off the power to that specific area. Double check by flipping light switch on and off, no power means you are good to go. Remove the current fixture & disconnect the wiring. Then with Phillips screwdriver, remove the top and bottom screws located on the light. You will then see the led portion of the light. You will see 4 screws there and remove them. You will now have the mounting bracket. Use the bracket as a guide to help you determine where you will drill 4 pilot holes. Use the leveler in order to have your light level and straight. (You don’t want to have a nice light that is crooked) Once you drill 4 pilot holes, drill 4 tapcon screws into the desired area. Pull the wires through the mounting bracket and connect to the LED portion of the light. Remember .. white with white , black with black and make sure you place the ground wire on the “green” screw (you will see it) & use wire connectors to cap off the ends. Then you will use the 4 screws you previously removed form the LED portion and screw those on but not so tight.. at this time.. check to make sure the light turns on.. if so.. you are good to go. If not then check your wiring and make sure you use wire connectors. Now you are almost finished!! Place the glass faceplate cover on the led light and screw the top and bottom screws with Phillips head screwdriver. Remember to use the clear silicon to stop those pesky bugs, debris and moisture from entering the light. I have included pictures to show before and after application of silicon. It makes a mess and doesn’t look clean so I used a small piece or card board and worked my way around the light to remove excess silicone. Check out the nice finish afterwards!!! I have included pictures. Now that you have your light mounted !! Connect with the app and have fun playing with your new light. Good product, but in my case a returned item resold as new

[Item sold/shipped by "Deal Targets"] The package's seal was broken and it was missing the drywall screws but otherwise seemed unused. My impression was the previous purchaser saw it required additional mounting due to the surprising weight and returned the light. In hindsight, after seeing the price was roughly $40 less than what the light sells on Philips Hue's website, it's kind of clear what the product was but there was no indication of such in the listing that I saw.

Totally disrespectful

I bought two lights, NEW at $192 each, on Sept 22 and received them promptly, however one of the box and light was tampered, the internal compartment which sealed the unit was missing the screws …. Was it new or not? And when I tested it, it did not work. On top of that when I returned the light, I found out that they were now at $162 each. Totally disrespectful for the consumer. I am now awaiting a NEW unit to finish my installation.

You Get What You Pay For

GOOD: This is 3rd of the outdoor product line. So far this one adds to the delight I had with the spotlights and boler lights I got last year. For the $$$ spent to get a couple of these is money well spent for the following reasons: 1) awesome colors (vs another brand i tried); 2) Easy setup and integration with HomeKit 3) Quality 4) Aesthetically adds beauty to my front porch aka curb appeal even at night time. 5) Gets software upgrade from time to time. CONS: Expensive like all other HUE outdoor products and has never gone on sale.

Sleek/Fantastic - Worth The Money

After seeing our sons purchase - we purchased 3 - 1 for above the garage, one for the front porch and one for the garden patio. They are modern, funky and have given the house a "face lift." look great. The light is super bright and does the job for us. The installation was (or I should say looked) quite easy (I'm saying that on behalf of others - I did nothing !!) but the finished product is 100 times nicer than I had imagined. They are hooked up to "Alexa". The light colour changing feature is a blast. I have read about the bugs in the lights but in my opinion, it will be worth the effort to clean as they look terrific.
