Klein is a veritable leader

It's not hard to like Klein products overall, and this one is no exception. I've done data cabling professionally in the past and I recently wanted to change to using pass through connectors when wiring up a recent home. I tried a couple variations locally and found the Klein to be best.

Perfect

This is a review of four related products purchased here on Amazon. 1. Klein Tools VDV826-703 Pass-Thru™ Modular Data Plug, CAT6, 50-Pack (ASIN B076PRM7W8) 2. Klein Tools VDV226-005 Compact Pass-Thru™ Modular Crimper (ASIN B07R3GK9FQ) 3. Soft Plastic Ethernet RJ45 Cable Connector Boots by Copapa (ASIN B07219KGC4) 4. H!Fiber 1Gbe Ethernet Network Adapter (ASIN B074PPRQQK) I’m using CAT 6 UTP (23 AWG) that I bought from a local home center. 1. I found the Klein Tools VDV826-703 Pass-Thru™ Modular Data Plug, (CAT6, 50-Pack) to be easy to use. This is my first-time using pass-thru connectors, and I have mixed feelings, but that’s not what this is about. The 23 AWG wires fit in snuggly but did require a bit of convincing to pass thru. They are more expensive than some others that are available, but I know these will work perfectly, especially with a same brand crimper. 2. The Klein Tools VDV226-005 Compact Pass-Thru™ Modular Crimper did its job flawlessly. The insulation is held tightly in place, the crimp felt secure, and the pass-thru wires were cut perfectly flush. I still need to try this with cheap plugs, to see if they are cut just as flush, but these work great with their own. 3. While I don’t usually use boots, I decided to give them a shot as they make the wires look more “finished”. I purchased the blue Soft Plastic Ethernet RJ45 Cable Connector Boots by Copapa. While they didn’t cost much, they were very soft and fit okay. I wish they were a little tighter around the wire, but that can vary from brand to brand. Overall, I’m happy with them. 4. Once the cables were completed, I plugged them into a H!Fiber NIC (Intel I350-T4 chipset). They all fit nicely together, even with the boots. That network card is not the V2, and that was expected. The V2s are harder to find and there are no performance differences. The revision was made to fix a slight power surge during power-on. The network card performed flawlessly with pfSense and I was able to configure two LAGGs with LACP support. One to a Cisco managed switch, and the other to my cable modem (SB8200) but I’ll save those for a different review. This card is working perfectly.

Reliable Crimps Every Time

I'm an hobbyist so don't terminate ends as often as a professional, so my equipment before this was rather dated. I can't count how many times in the past I've had to redo crimps for whatever reason, but with this, every single termination just works so I can move on with whatever I need to do next rather than spend time troubleshooting a dumb, self-inflicted, cabling issue.

I use it for work all the time over the crimper provided by the company. Fits great in my tool kit and really easy to use.

Good value for the money. Work as advertised

I bought this for a small project in my house. My house had cables (CAT5e) but all of them ending in a cable panel and without any connectors. I wanted to install a network switch and feed internet to the whole house. I had 12 cables hanging inside the cable panel. I bought this tool and some pass-through RJ-45 connectors. I was able to crimp the 12 cables without any waste or issue. It crimped very well the first time for every cable, and provided a clear cut of the excess. It seems a very sturdy tool with good weight on it.

Adorable and effective

Other crimpers I’ve used have needed much more “breaking in” than this one. For just RJ-45 crimping, it is a great size, has great grip, and is honestly just so cute/little. I also love the metal piece to lock it in the “closed” position to save space.

Easy to use and no more second-guessing the wiring order!

This tool is very well made and compact to make it easy to carry along in your tool bag everywhere. Plus the pass-through connectors let you easily verify the order of the wiring pairs so you don’t end up having to cut and re-crimp. Great value for the money!

Tool is the cats(6) ass.

First and foremost I am not a network installer by any means, just your average homeowner. I had built a shop and wanted to run Cat6 cable to it from the house. After looking at the different tools available to crimp the ends of Cat6 cable, and watching videos on how this tool sucked and that tool sucked and this one is for people that don't know what they are doing etc etc etc. I bought the Klein Tools VDV226-005 Compact Pass-Thru Crimper. The item is very easy to use and as long as you can follow instructions and make sure that wires coming out of the end of the clip is exactly what is required I don't think you can go wrong. I had made a short cable just to test out the tool to make sure I understood the entire process before I started on the big project and was pleasantly surprised on how easy it is to make these Cat6 cables. Since I was running about 150' of cable I had bought a tester to make sure it was done properly and was glad that I did as it will save time and aggravation. So if you the average Joe and looking to make some Cat6 cable I definitely would recommend this tool.

Good build quality but it looks like it will only work with Klein plugs

The build quality of this tool is great but I could not get it to cut the last 2 cables. I don't know if this only works with Klein plugs but I was dissopointed with the outcome. I had to return the item.

Vale i soldi spesi

Dopo aver preso altri prodotti più economici sono passato a questo e non ne sono pentito. Fa benissimo quello per cui l'ho acquistato: niente più plug buttati perchè mal crimpati, neinte perdite di tempo nel verificare se i fili erano nel giusto ordine. Quelli economici vanno bene per uno o due plug ma se si devono fare diversi lavori è meglio avere un prodotto valido come questo: i soldi spesi in più sono soldi risparmiati in tempo, cavo, RJ e imprecazioni varie.

Good tool for general use

Good home-handyman level tool. Not quite up to the level of professional level tooling, but for the average homeowner looking to crimp a few cables it is more than sufficient for the price. In order to avoid the issue of the tool not quite cutting wire number 1 and 8, bend the wires down towards the blade before crimping. Perfect cut each time after this small change.
