Works overall but sometimes doesn't cut completely.
This works fine for thick slices, but when slicing 1tbsp or thinner it sometimes doesn't cut completely through the butter so you have to manually remove the thin cutting.

Prepare for love/hate
I will warn you now. There is a high probability that this contraption will lead to a strong love/hate relationship. We've used this butter cutter for about 12 years now and cannot imagine our culinary life without it. Sadly, the durability of this device is poor so mentally prepare yourself to replace it every couple of years. Each time, I asked myself if I am willing to spend $5-10 for something that breaks so easily and the answer is yes. I SOOOO wish that they'd make one of more durable materials as I'd happily pay $20 for it if it could last 10+ years. Let's get into the love part. It is so convenient to pull this from the fridge and easily portion out a teaspoon or tablespoon of butter. Need a thin pat of cold butter? Bam! There it is. Your alternative is to take a stick of butter from the fridge, open up the packaging, put it on a cutting board, and measure how visually how much butter you need. This device does all that for you in seconds without making a mess or requiring you to do all that setup. Looking at the negatives, it's going to break in various ways. I have lost count of how many of these we've gone through. 6-10? I've seen the most common breakage is around the flap that keeps the end closed. I've attached a photo of our last butter cutter and how we got around this piece breaking. (edited: I don't see a way to attach the photo :/ ) The next common breakpoint is the slider control on top and how it connects to the mechanism that pushes the butter forward. All in all, the negatives are outweighed by this device's convenience. I just hate how disposable it is. But after years I've become resigned to buying these in bulk and always having a new one handy for when the current one becomes too broken to work.

Perfect easy cuts
The measurement pieces don’t really seem accurate to the ones on the sticks but it works well to slice nice even pads.

I LOVE this product
This is easily the best thing ever for butter keeping!! I pull the cover off a stick of butter, pop it in here, and measure out in tablespoons or half tablespoons to cut when I need it, in the meantime it's just stored in this thing. I go through butter semi-quickly, not so fast that I wouldn't use it much and not so slow that the butter sits in it forever. Of course I keep it in the fridge, and I don't use it to spread on toast, I use it for cooking/sauteing, things like that. I just can't say enough good things about the ease of use and sheer ingenuity of this product. Here's the one con: I truly wish it were made better. TRULY. Please, creators, consider having it built a little better even if it means you charge more. My last one went for a little over a year before the spring just on the inside broke completely, or rather the plastic it was attached to. Whole thing ripped right out. I see from other reviews some didn't even last that long. I just ordered another, and I plan to baby it more than a horticulturist babies an orchid plant, because I want this to last. Seriously, I have bought a ton of little kitchen hack things over the years and this is by far my favorite of them all. If you're on the fence about trying it out, I hope I tipped the scale in favor of it. If you mostly go through a stick of butter a tablespoon or two at a time, you'll love this. Before, I stored my stick in a plastic container I'd bought just for sticks of butter, but I would store it in its paper cover and have to cut it with a knife and rinse of the paper in hot water to dry and throw out. (I don't throw anything with food on it in the trash) With this, I don't have to even get out a knife, the cutter is built into the device. Now I rinse, dry, and throw away the paper wrapper once when I first put it in. The plastic container holds another stick ready to go in when I use the current one. I love my system! But yeah, it's a tad flimsy.

Less sturdy than previous model, but still handy, but with attention
I had used one of these for years (even gluing the body back together) but eventually a key piece broke off of the "pusher" mechanism, so I had to buy a new one. I use butter frequently but not every day, so I don't like to have a butter dish out all the time, just to have it convenient for cutting a bit off. This tool has worked great for me, fitting my needs. However, the one I received recently seems to be made of slightly weaker plastic and to less stringent specifications - the pusher has to be in exactly the right angle or it gets stuck, and the upper part with the wire cutter gets hung up on one side after nearly every cut. To get it to work, it needs much more attention than the previous model. Such a simple thing. Too bad, it seems corners are being cut in manufacture or assembly.

An excellent tool for the kitchen!
I had one of these back around 2000. I got it at a trade center on clearance. In fact, I bought several and gave to friends as a gift. It lasted for so many years. I'd say probably 15 or so, until the wire that slices the butter broke. It never occurred to me that I could buy another after so many years. Well I am so thrilled to have this handy gadget in my kitchen again. I love things that are multipurpose. It is one of my absolute favorite kitchen must haves. I can't recommend it enough.

Poor quality!
This is a great concept and works well but only for a short period or time. I have purchased a large number if these, in excess of 10, they break on a regular basis and it is always something different. I have saved parts to make a working one and then they fail as well. Lucky to get one months service out of each one. Butter is always room temperature, still fail. If you cut cold butter you might get one use out of it. Love the convenience and accuracy but at more than $20.00 each it is too costly to continue using, last one worked for 8 days.

Works Great!
Just what I needed. You can cut off a little tiny thin slice of butter up to a big hunk. So the butter can still be kept in the fridge but is easily useable on bread or whatever.

Excellent product.. but not very durable
This product is irreplaceable in the kitchen for measuring butter. However, it doesn't seem to last much longer then 6 months. Common issues I have found is the bottom piece often starts to come loose and the springs on the door break. I've never had any issues with the wire or the Slider. All in all, $4 is pretty cheap, I plan to continue to buy this product.

Works well! Does not fit regular sized butter. Still love it!
Works well even with cool solid butter! However, you'll have to cut regular size butter into 4 pieces so it fits. It is still worth it!

Broke after six months
This is a very handy product and I used it frequently for baking until it broke. Too fragile. I would not buy again.
