Bad QC (and now shoddy materials)
This is an "improved" version (Chinese Engineering) of an earlier model. The plastic "spreader bar" has been replaced with metal. And they've enlarged the chin strap and added more padding. In the process though, they shortened the "closure straps" to the point the harness won't close around my head. Rather than face the hassle of repacking, returning, and WAITING, I just re-sewed the damn thing myself. It's reasonably priced and helps with neck pain, but there's probably a better manufacturer out there somewhere. Update 3/21/2023. At16 lb. weight, the Velcro fasteners began to "slip" after about 5 minutes, especially with any head movement. Having gone this far, I went ahead and replaced the fasteners with high quality Velcro. So, shoddy Engineering and now materials. Not a manufacturing issue, but I also replaced the awkward water bottle with 16 lb. of log chain in a tote bag. Easier for me to manage.

A Bit Awkward, but it does Work
I bought this several years and ago and used it quite a bit. We moved, it didn't make the cut, and now I am shopping for a new one since my neck issues are bothering me again. It's not the best design ever, a bit difficult to use. I modified mine somewhat since I am kinda handy that way. The nylon and Velcro part that attaches to your head is not comfortable. All that said, it does work, if you can get it set up. ** A bit of advice - you don't HAVE to use the water bag, you could use a gallon jug, it's a lot easier to fill and empty. Better yet, just hook on a 10lb weight. I ended up using about 15lbs which worked well for me. I will probably buy a different product this time around, myself. There seem to be some better options, but for the price, this one does work.

Nice if Needed
I used this type of traction decades ago, but discarded it & had to buy another. I don’t think any are very comfortable, but this one is ok. I only use it 15 minutes 1-2 times a day, & I do think it helps. It puts quite a bit of pressure on lower jaw, but so far has not affect my TMJ joints. For home decompression of cervical spine I think it’s as good as you will find.

Use with warm or hot rice pack in shoulders to relax
Wonky to set up but only one time. Add a little rubbing alcohol so the water doesn’t mold. Coupled with weekly chiropractic adjustments- improved mobility and decreased stiffness. Cervical joint compaction is hereditary so getting out in front of the pain

Big time relief from pain, tingling and numbness. Helping decrease my need for meds!
I'm not going to post a photo because this thing squishes your face and makes you look pretty funny while you're strapped in, but... I LOVE THIS CONTRAPTION!!! I have a herniated disk (C5) which causes a great deal of pain on one side of my neck that radiates down my left arm. I've been in physically therapy for this issue on and off for years and the one thing that seems to do the most good when I see my PT is the traction machine. My insurance wouldn't approve a home traction unit and I can't afford the fancier ones myself, but this Traction Kit is everything I need and it didn't even come close to breaking the bank. :: Setup :: Getting things set up was fairly easy. It comes in 6 parts (the door hanger thing, the triangle shaped bracket with pulleys, a rope, the metal spreader bar, cotton/velcro head gear and the empty water bag). The instructions were well written and included photos so there's not much chance of doing things wrong. I didn't like that I had to tie the rope on both ends myself. It made me nervous but the knots I used appear to be holding firm. (The instructions have a drawing of a knot they recommend.) :: Use :: You can get hooked-up to use this without help but I'd recommend having someone to help get you into it, for sure the first few times at least. Once the bag is full of water its 15+ pounds pulling on your spine so it helps to have an assistant to let the bag fall gently once you're strapped in. Getting out is a lot easier because you can just grab the bar above your head and pull it down while you detach the head gear from the spreader bar (just D-rings in a notch, nothing fancy and doesn't require a lot of dexterity). It is a bit of a hassle to have this thing having on the door all day every day but that's mainly my fault and due to the fact that we just don't have a door we don't use. Still, it doesn't prevent us from using the door and technically, the manufacturer instructs you to empty the bag and take it down between uses... That's not realistic IMO because people using this have neck and back issues and filling/carrying/listing a 20 lb bag of water isn't on my list of recommended activities. I like the idea another reviewer had of attaching a 20lb kettle bell instead of using the water. I will probably try that as well. :: Results :: Amazingly, this $20 contraception provides as much relief from pain and numbness as the fancy-schmancy machine at my Physical Therapists office. It allows me to be more active in-between doctor visits because I know I have a source for relief at the end of the day. This has helped me reduce the amount of pain medications I take as well. Obviously, consult your doctor before messing with your neck and back, but once they've given the A-OK (mine did without batting an eye) strap yourself in and prepare to be pleasantly surprised!

It is as described but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
This item is as described but the chin strap is difficult to use and it comes with no instructions on how to put it on. Sort of a keep trying until you get it right deal. Otherwise it does what it says it does but I would recommend getting some instruction from a trained professional before using as you could do some harm to yourself with too much weight in the bag. Worth the money and useful with proper guidance on use. As for pain relief, that is totally dependant upon your specific problem and how well you respond to treatment so no real reference could be made as to the worthiness of this product in that regard. If you are someone who would benefit from neck traction, this will most likely help.

Without a doubt the most complicated and poorly designed piece of equipment ever made
I spent my adult life designing specialized equipment and this absolute piece of garbage provides the ultimate in user frustration of anything I have ever seen. The instructions are beyond poor, as are the primitive sketches provided. A simple color code matching or numbering system as to what connects where and how would surely have helped but everything is white and totally ambiguous and confusing as to assembly procedure , which also must be done as the outfit is being put on maybe with possible assistance of a mirror that actually makes things worse. There is no top, bottom, left, right, up, down, front or back to this maze of material, although the metal/hanging sections of the overall package are fine. After an hour of frustration and getting the contraption located properly on your head, it actually did do what it was advertised to do but getting to that stage is the ultimate exercise in futility. The people that designed this unnecessarily complicated and poorly explained product should be forced to personally witness the customer's wrath.

Don’t waste your money
I was recommended this product by a neurologist, it’s crap! I have don’t traction in Physio and it gave me headache but definitely helped my neck, shoulder and arm issues. This doesn’t come close to the actual machine. It pulls on my jaw and feels like someone has there hands wrapped around your neck. Didn’t help with any pain relief.. actually caused more pain, in the jaw. I don’t recommend this product. It would be better if it actually pulled the neck and not the jawline.

Updated Review: design flaws with the water bag; otherwise not a bad device.
Updated Review: design flaws with the water bag; otherwise not a bad device - meaning it is usable only. Now the flaws with the water bag: 1 - when emptying the water, there is still a good amount of water left behind due to the way the spout's design. IF the manufacturer is reading this, they should add a second spout at the top corner so that most of the water can be emptied. 2 - when filling water, they should include a foldable bag holder to ensure bag is upright so filling would be much easier and efficient. 3 - hanging the bag to the suspender is also challenging. These are the few things I could think of for the time being.

Very hard to use
I'm writing this review while using this product. It took me over half an hour to install. The design is horrible and extremely difficult to use if just handle it by yourself! The rope is too slimy which makes it hard to tie the water bag. There's no clear instruction on how to use the chin strap. I spent so much time just finding the correct direction. It's very hard to adjust the height.
