Slippery
Beautiful. High quality fit and finish. But it's lousy at holding things. Towels, robes. It all slides off. Unless you kind of fold the fabric over about an inch before laying over the prongs, then tucking the fabric in between them. Even then, there's a 50/50 chance you'll end up with a robe or towel on the floor. But it sure is stunning to look at, especially if it coordinates with all the other fixtures.

Still problems with the Mounting Plate
I’m pretty religious about reading product reviews, but in this case, I was buying a Kingston brass towel bar and just wanted a matching robe hook. As others have already pointed out, there are problems with the mounting plate. First, my plate was just slightly too long to fit between the top of the brass hook and the bottom that holds the slotted set screw. Standing the mounting plate on end on a hard surface and hitting it with a hammer a couple of times corrected that problem. Second, the directions state that the curved end of the mounting plate should be at the top and the flat end at the bottom where the set screw is. This doesn't work. As others have pointed out, the flange is too narrow for the set screw to catch the mounting plate. Like others, I turned the mounting plate 180 degrees so the wider flange was at the bottom where the set screw could catch. Problem here, as again pointed out by others, is that the narrow flange now at the top would not catch the top slot on the robe hook. The flange was set too far back when mounted on the wall to catch the top robe hook slot. This problem I solved by placing a 1/4” flat washer between the wall and the back of the flange aligned over the top mounting screw hole of the flange. This pushed the flange away from the wall just enough so that it could catch the top slot on the back of the robe hook. Bottom line is that you can make this work, but a little more attention by the manufacturer to quality control would make this fiddling around unnecessary.

Wrong mounting plate
The mounting plate that shipped with the product (rectangular with the top flange longer than the bottom flange) was different from the one shown in the Installation Instructions (also rectangular with flanges on all four sides). Since the bottom flange was much shorter, the locking screw would NOT “catch” it. When I turned the mounting plate 180 degrees, although the locking screw would now “catch” the flange, the top shorter flange would not “catch” the inside top of the robe hook, and the hook would simply fall down. I wrote to Kingston Brass about the aforementioned problem and they sent me the mounting plate shown in the Installation Instructions. However, this mounting plate was 1/4 inch shorter than the mounting plate I originally received with the product, and thus, was totally useless! I wrote to Kingston Brass again, but never heard back from them. So I sent the robe hooks (I purchased two of them) back to Amazon. After doing a Google search on the company, I discovered they are nothing more than an importer. They manufacture nothing. I don’t know if the mounting plate problem I encountered is indicative of their other products, but I would caution any potential customers to think twice before ordering ANY product(s) from them.

Would not rebuy for $2
This robe hook is junk. Instructions are slightly better than useless - e.g. they tell one to drill a hole for the bracket screws, but neglect to mention the correct drill bit size. The mounting bracket has a top and bottom, but again, no mention as to which is which. The flanges on the mounting bracket have very little bend so that the set screw on the hook won't make contact with, and secure, the hook to the bracket. The only solution I found was to put a thin washer between the bracket and the wall to enable the set screw to make solid contact with the bracket. Kingston claims this is brass, but I doubt it - very light weight and doesn't feel substantial. Sadly I had to order two to finish a guest bath this weekend prior to guest arrival. I would have returned both and started over if time permitted.

Mounting plate is not made correctly
The mounting plate will not allow the small allen key screw to catch when the mounting plate is srewed on the wall or door. The bottom end is too shalllow and the screw goes right by it. I had to put a small washer under the lower screw to bring it out from the wall to enable the allen key to catch it. That kind of ruins the item as the bottom is slightly out from the door. Incrediby poor design. Live with the defect or bypass this item.
