Keeps chicks warm
Got this one and was a smidge worried that the lower price meant lower quality. Not so. It is a little Fisher Price feeling, but it warms up quick, keeps the chicks warm and that’s what it’s supposed to do. Reduced a LOT of stress in our chicks right away. Then only caveat I have is I wish that I could use the tilt option at every height instead of just the lowest. I had a struggling chick who is half the size of the others and they outgrew the setting she needed. Solution was to simply put a little extra shavings under the front supports to tilt it and then some extra shavings in the back under the actual plate. Worked just fine and now all the chicks are happy to hang out there when they need to.

Fits perfectly in a rubber maid tub!
I hate the heat lamp! BUT I still use it for the first day or two while the little ones are still in my closet after coming out of the incubator. I have a Producer's Pride brooder plate from TS that I love and use once they get a couple days old and move down to my garage in a large dog crate. But that brooder plate is too big for a rubber maid tub so I've always just used a heat lamp for those first couple days and just prayed that it doesn't burn the house down. We had a terrible accident this morning. It fell and killed one chick. Thankfully I walked in just after it happened and it didn't burn my house down (b/c it would have no doubt!!) I got this one on same day delivery and it fits PERFECTLY in the rubber maid tub!! I'm so happy!!! For reference, there are 16 baby chicks under it in this picture. They are only a day old so it won't work for many once they get larger, but for this stage while they fit in the plastic tub in my closet, it's great. Ditch the heat lamp! It's not worth the risk!

Perfect for baby chicks.
I purchased this as a replacement for the standard heat lamp I had been using. It is easy to assemble and can be adjusted as the chicks grow. They like to play on top and you can just wipe it clean. It is also a better alternative to a heat lamp. As it only heats from the underside and does not heat the entire room where chicks are located. It is very sturdy as well.

Decent product
The brooder itself is good, chicks loved it and it put off plenty of heat. The downside is with the flat top. It becomes a playscape for them and needs to be cleaned constantly. Scraping the poop off of the flat top isn’t bad but it gets down the sides and in the holes, just makes for more of a mess. I like the Rent-A-Coop concept better with the optional cone shaped top to avoid roosting.

Tried this over a heat lamp
I did some research before I got my chicks in this spring what to do for a heat source. I saw this and wanted to give it a try as a lot of people recommend it. I will say I'm glad I did. My chicks went right under and utilize it as their heat source. I have my chicks in the garage so it stays 50 degrees in there all the time and lighting is not the best. So, I do put a light over the feed and water source so they can find it. I turn on in the morning and turn off at night. They come out to their food and water and will go back under the brooder plate if they get to cold. I love it and will continue using it for years to come.

Safe but be careful
Love this brooder for our chicks! Just be careful tht it doesnt fall apart while moving it. We had an accident where it fell apart and landed on one of our chicks. I thought for sure she was going to die or that we were going to have to put her out of her misery, but she had a full and complete recovery, thank God! Now we are very careful moving it around. Other than that it is a greta product!

So glad I went with this model - had several to compare to
I bought 40 chicks with a group of ladies. They all let me borrow their heat plates for the first few days until they came and got their chicks. Hands down, all chicks preferred this one over the other name brands ones and the generic ones available on Amazon. The only negative I would say it that my girls are 3 weeks and I have 12 of them under the large. There isn’t that much space left. Stop researching models and just buy this one!! You won’t regret it! I’ve always used a heat lamp before. It’s amazing how fast they feather out with a brooder plate instead of a lamp.

Worked Perfectly
Got this for a group of 12 chicks. One little bantam barely comes out from under it. She just wants to stay warm. Some prefer to sit on top, some like to be under it. No problems with it getting too hot. Seems to be a much safer option than a heat lamp. Fit all 12 chicks when they were little. Their full feathers are coming in so they mostly only use it at night now. Very happy with this purchase and will be using it again in the future because chicken math. There will be more.

Works great! The Peeps love it!
Works great! Some people said it’s not warm enough, but it’s plenty warm. It’s to mimic them hanging under their mom so it’s not supposed to be hot to the touch, only warm. The peeps love it. For new babies keep it on the lowest hole with it on an angle so they can get super warm, or come out a bit for less warmth. Going to buy another one for my bunny for winter time. Happy with this purchase so far.

Works great - plug it in 24 to 48 hours before you pick them up
This is working great for our chicks. They pick the warmth they want, some prefer to cuddle up near the back and some like to sleep further to the front. It was easy to set up. I’ve plugged up the centre hole and the holes you use to adjust the height just because I was worried they would get their tiny heads stuck in there. You do need to plug it in before you get them so it can get up to the proper temperature for them. I plugged ours in about a day and a half before we got them and it was nice and toasty when they got here.

Useless
This product seemed faulty. The temperature under the heater was hardly warm. The chickens we all huddled up. I had to resort to using a heat lamp which I like to avoid and they were happy after that. I should also mention that this was in our house and the temperature was 20 it was not outside in the cold. I now have 4 chicks that are failing to thrive and I believe it is because of not being warm enough at a young age. I do not recommend this product. As either mine was faulty or this does not give nearly enough heat. If you do decide to go with this product I will say two positives it was easy to clean and setup. But in my opinion go with the higher end products if you don’t want your chicks suffering.

Successfully raised chicks
Successfully raised 3 little chicks (see photo, they're all grown up now!) with this, and are currently raising 6 more with it. They quite like it - if they're cold they go under, but if it's too warm they'll stay out. We don't have to worry about this starting a fire or cooking them. Super easy to use, all you have to do is plug it in! The chick poop really sticks to it good though, I think it gets slightly cooked on...but it's plastic, so not the hardest thing to clean by any means!

Doesn’t get hot enough! Buyer beware!
Lost a chick in the first few hours as it couldn’t get hot enough. We ended up with thermostats under it and it was shy of at least 5 degrees and we lost a chick. I wasn’t fast enough getting a heat lamp on it and lost one. The others perked up as soon as they got proper heat. I guess it’s fine to use as secondary heat or for older chicks (ours were one week) but why bother? Just use a heater that gets warm enough! I’m returning it.
