Joseph Joseph needs some quality control on their silicone machine
I saw these at Whole Foods and though they were a great idea, so I bought them. I like them. I think they pop popcorn well, at least once you do some trial and error with ingredients and your microwave and the poppers themselves. I like that I can make a single serving of popcorn. The built-in measuring device works pretty well, and it's easy to clean. I like that it's one piece. And although it's not specific to this popper, it's nice to be able to customize your popcorn with any combo of fat (coconut oil! olive oil! butter!) and seasonings (cheese! salt! more butter! spicy stuff!) that you want. However, of the two I bought, the flaps on the orange one don't stay down, and the flaps on the grey one only stay down if I put the "top" flap (the one with the logo on it) on the bottom and put the "bottom" flap on the top. This seems to be some sort of manufacturing defect with either the thickness or width of the "seams" where the flaps fold down. The orange one not working properly is why I took two stars off. If they both worked as well as the grey one, I'd give this product 5 stars. A couple tips: 1) If you find that your popper pops open too soon and starts spewing greasy, molten-hot popcorn kernels over your microwave, dampen a paper towel and put it over the top of the popper before you start the microwave. That way, even if one flap pops open too soon, the paper towel will stop any rogue kernels. This is the only way I've been able to use my orange popper, and frankly, it helps with the grey popper too, just because occasionally kernels pop out of the side vents (also, if you overfill the popper, it contains the overflow.) 2) I think adding oil or butter makes the popcorn taste about 100x better. So yes, you can add oil and it still works just fine. It doesn't take a lot; I think I usually use about half a teaspoon of butter, although I think you could get away with less. 3) Usually I add the kernels and butter/oil, then heat the whole thing up for 20 seconds to melt the butter. Add a seasoning (I mix salt with a turmeric seasoning that's delicious but stains everything yellow -- https://amazon.com/dp/B079W3DLZL/ref=twister_B07D3NZPXG), stir it up, put a paper towel over the top, then back in the microwave for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. At work, I found that the microwave would start burning the popcorn before most of the kernels were popped, so I set that microwave to 90% power. At home, I can use full power. The popcorn is usually done with 30-45 seconds left on the timer, but it's important to listen for it and watch it carefully.

Trial and error
Got these as a present for my husband and it was trial and error trying to figure out how to get this product to work. The top flaps are supposed to be folded down while microwaving and then they pop open towards the end with all the popped kernels. These kept popping open almost immediately making a mess in our microwave. We found if you place another plastic container upside down on the top, it keeps the flaps down long enough to pop the kernels.

The popcorn popper single serve is less than 1 cup
Popcorn pops well and tastes good, after you sprinkle a little olive oil and lightly add salt.

Good, Not Great
Takes some getting used to. The lid doesn’t stay folded easily and if it’s tucked too tightly it won’t pop up so less pops corn is made. Easy to clean- just pop in dishwasher.

Works, but...
I'll be honest, I probably wouldn't buy these again. We've used them half a dozen times since they arrived, and they Do work, but with a few key drawbacks. The first is their size. Despite the hand model in the product photo, I still took them out of the box and thought "wow, those are tiny!" And they are. When I want popcorn, I want popcorn. The amount I can make here may be a "reasonable" serving, but I'd really like more. Second, you have to close then Just Right. The first couple of times I just folded the lids over any old way. The moment the first kernels popped, the lid flew open and there were both popped and unpopped kernels all over the microwave - which had to be dealt with immediately lest they burn. It took a few tries to figure out how to cross the lids in the center to prevent that. Third, there's a pretty high percentage of unpopped kernels after 2:30 - 2:45 in my microwave - maybe 40% or more. I have not yet taken it to the point of burning, and I may be able to add a few more seconds, but I think there will always be a lot of wastage. Last but not least is clean up. I know we all like to think we're going to eat oil free popcorn, but if we're honest we know that will be too boring, and besides even salt won't stick without a little something. Here's where the size becomes a factor again: it's just to little (and perhaps just as importantly, too tall and narrow - and Hot!) to successfully oil and season inside. So I end up dumping everything into a wide, shallow bowl, spraying with cooking oil, adding salt, and shaking. This gives me a nice, edible result, but at the cost of another dirty dish. Part of the reason I don't use my whirley-pop stove top popper often is the amount of cleaning it takes. But at least I can season and oil in the same pot! Yes, these guys produce a little less mess, but not as much less as I was hoping.

Looks nice, tears easily
I looks nice and seems durable. However, I used it once and noticed that there was a tear on the side where the fold is. I like it’s shape, the concept, and the color, but disappointed about its durability.

This mostly works, with a little help
The first time I used this product, the top popped open too early in my microwave and kernels and popcorn got everywhere. I have found that if I put less kernels in it (a little below the fill line) and place my microwave plate cover over it, 2 minutes in my microwave works perfectly. So not exactly working as expected, but still found a way to make it work effectively. I have not experimented with adding any flavor to the popcorn, but it tastes pretty good plain, and I like that I don't have to use any oil.

Great idea but it’s too small
The 15 year old in our life loves popcorn, but this product is just too tiny for the amount that he likes to eat normally.

Clever idea that generates good results
Joseph Joseph should be commended. These simple pieces of silicone have saved our household a fortune in microwave popcorn. The product is super easy to use, and works exactly as promised. Mostly. One of our two containers refuses to close, making it pretty ineffective. The other one, however, is awesome. Another challenge: The popcorn that results is largely flavorless. Joseph Joseph suggests popping the corn alone with no oil and no seasoning. We turn this on it's head a bit. A little bit less than half a teaspoon of flavacol and a tiny amount of coconut oil before cooking is enough to produce absolutely excellent results. Definitely do some experimenting with this. If you play around enough, you'll find exactly the right popcorn for you.

Worth the price
Wasn't expecting much from these, and thought that honestly they looked overpriced and underwhelming, but got them anyway as a treat to try. They've turned out to actually work really nicely, and though they still feel a bit overpriced for what they are (sorry!) I actually would get them again or as a gift for someone else. They're a set of two silicone 'cups', with two flaps that you fold down before putting in the microwave. They come in orange and black, and have some instructions on the label, facing inwards. There's a raised section inside in the bottom of each-you put in popcorn kernels enough to level out with the top of this raised section, close the flaps down, then microwave. The time and power depends on your microwave and you'll have to experiment to find the best combination-mine took between two to three minutes, for reference, not long. When enough kernels have popped and filled the cup, the flaps will be pushed up and open from the inside and you stop the microwave. Each cup makes enough for about a cereal bowl full of popcorn. You don't need to add butter or anything else, and if you wanted to you'd do it after microwaving. The cup is too hot to handle directly from the microwave (though that means butter will melt in it quickly, etc) but cools down fast enough, though tipping it into a bowl is always an option. Usually there are kernels left over at the bottom-I just used them in the next batch. Do not over fill or under fill! Under filling means the flaps might not open, and the popcorn could burn or worse. Over filling just wastes time and kernels. You probably will overfill at first though, as it's hard to believe the amount of kernels needed to reach the marker is enough to fill the container, but it surprises you. :) Small warning-be careful about leaving the container unattended in the microwave while popping, or letting it go longer than usual. Once, after having used it a few times already, for some reason the flaps didn't open so even though it seemed suspiciously long I let it keep going. I can report that the popcorn maker leaves enough gaps to allow smoke to escape, while it also relatively 'safely' contains small fires well enough to allow you time to get it into the sink :D

Popcorn won’t stay in container
Lids won’t stay closed so popcorn pops all over the microwave. Would not purchase again.

Useless piece of silicone
My family love popcorn and we opted for these as it doubles into a popcorn bag so it feels like you're at the movies. Unfortunately the product just doesn't work. Let's walk through the steps of making popcorn: 1. Put kernels in the maker. 2. Close the flaps. 3. Place in microwave and cook. Simple, right? Unfortunately step 2 of the cooking process is where this all goes down the drain. The flaps don't stay closed and the lightest of breezes will flip them open which stops popcorn from popping. A little bit of fiddling and you can get the lid to close. Congratulations. You get a few kernels pop and then guess what happens? The flaps pop open and the popcorn just flies out, covering your microwave. So now you've got popcorn everywhere and you need to pause things, clean up and try to go again but now the flaps just don't want to stay closed. What should have taken 3-4 minutes in total has now taken you 15 minutes and you just aren't satisfied by the mix of cold and stale popcorn from cooking a few kernels, taking them out, cooking more and repeating. The worst thing is now that I've used them I can't really return the item so I'm stuck with an item that does absolutely nothing but take up space. Fortunately there are other popcorn makers on Amazon that genuinely do work and have made making popcorn a breeze. Go look elsewhere for something that works because this product, like almost all other Joseph Joseph products, looks nice but does not work.

Rarely stays locked in place, so cannot use if opens
The two flaps on the top rarely stay closed... If I get lucky, it stays close for 10 seconds and pops back up. To make popcorn with kernels in this container, it has to be closed as it cooks... so this becomes rather useless
