Good quick change motor and impeller; Rule can make it great by strengthening impeller.

Use on our boat to fish offshore Hawaii with live Opelu and Akule. The olefin material that Rule uses to make the impeller needs to be a little thicker. The problem with the current design is that the three pieces that form the impeller tend to bend out with time and the impeller begins striking the pump housing. This adds load to the motor and causes it to fail prematurely. If the impeller was a little heavier material, it would not deform and the pumps' longevity would be significatly improved. Good design otherwise. LIke the quick change ability of pump motor and impeller. Ed Clark, Senior Member Assoc of Chemical Engineers, Senior Member Association Energy Engineers.

Easy Install With Only Two Wires to Reconnect

If you had installed the entire Rule livewell assembly with this motor cartridge than it is simple to replace this motor cartridge. My previous Rule motor worked for several years. Then on one outing the livewell pump stopped sucking up water but the empeller still spun. I bought this replacement motor and simply replaced the old one and presto it was working on my next outing. I don't know what went wrong on the old motor cartridge if it was the rubber gasket on the motor cartridge or empeller that was worn down. The old non functioning motor empeller still spun but was a little loud making a buzzing sound. The new replacement is almost silent. In fact you need to actually put your hand on it to confirm it is running.

Premature Failure

The quick change design of this pump is very nice. It would be even better if the full pump kit came with a wiring kit including inline fuse and sealed connector. Then, this item could included the pump side connector half. This is just a small detail that would make it way more user-friendly. When running this unit is quite audible, with a high pitch whine. I was able to reduce the nose in the boat by building a sound insulating box from 1” closed cell foam. Not sure if this noise effects the fish. I received this unit, new, on Nov 6th, and installed it a week later. By January 6th, the impeller shaft had rusted through, rendering the unit completely inoperable. This is an unfortunate failure mode because the unit sounds like it is running but you get no flow. If you are not paying attention, or don’t have a means for monitoring the flow rate, you can loose all your bait. Due to the Statement of Origin being a sticker that was placed over the original Statement of Origin on the packaging, I am guessing there are multiple manufacturing facilities producing these. The materials and quality of the units may be dependent on where your unit was manufactured. I did not contact Rule about my failure.

Do your research to get the right part.

The first one I ordered did not fit my pump. Amazon took it back with no problems. So after more research I found what I thought was the right part. So I called rule, the person in support said they didn't make just the motor for that pump . I had to give her the number which she confirmed would fit and it did. Do the research. By the way the pump works great!

The pump is reliable and is good value for my money.

This is a quick replacement for the pump without having to replace or dismantle piping. The pump is used in a remote cattle watering system and must be reliable.
