Height is not adjustable
I bought this to replace a ball type catch at the top of an interior door. The ball catch constantly needed maintenance. It was noisy because the lubrication would scrape off or dry out, leaving a metal on metal scraping sound. And the height of the ball would get lower and lower every month, requiring it to be adjusted frequently. This roller type catch has a plastic roller so it won't ever have a metal on metal problem. But the big problem with this catch is that the height isn't adjustable. On my door, it's about 1/8 inch too high, so the roller slams into the leading edge of the strike plate, making it difficult to close the door. I have the tension knob at the lowest setting. I bought another one of these roller catches 3 years ago and I had forgotten about this problem. Over time the spring on the first roller has become compressed, so it's just the right height now. You just have to be patient and wait 3 years for it to work properly! I should've bought a height-adjustable roller catch from Baldwin but that requires a large square recess in the door. My door has a small round recess and I don't have that much carpentry skills to change it.

Proper installation required
This works very smoothly if properly installed. You must recess the roller into the door so that the center pin on the roller is slightly below the top of the door. This is the only way it will roll. If you mount it higher the roller will just push down and create a flat spot. Installing will require some basic carpentry skills including installing a wooden support block inside the door if you have a hollow core. I installed a few months ago on kitchen pantry doors that see very heavy use and the rollers are as smooth now as they were when first installed. No comparison to the steel ball plungers that you have to constantly adjust and replace.

We were pleasantly amazed that a device that was installed in our home during the 1960s was still available. Somehow, while painting years ago, we misplaced the half that goes on top to which the roller catch attaches. We were thrilled to be able to find those parts and replace them. Oh, yeah, the Schlage Roller Catch device is simple, functional, and works well.

Perfect solution to modern entry door
We wanted a large bar handle on our modern door and this was the perfect solution to keeping it closed when not locked.

Doesn't Roll
This is like a dumb joke: When is a roller catch not a roller catch? When it doesn't roll. The wheel is frozen to the friction tube jammed through the supports. At this point, it is no better than the ball catch it wasd to replace. If it did, the junky plastic thumb-screw is poised to blow out as soon as the shock of a closing door is sent through it. Anticipating disappointment, I ordered, at the same time, ther Baldwin version (elsewhere on Amz). It is all brass (including the thumb-screw). The brass through-bolt is machine-pressed into the supports. The thing rolls smooth, recedes with little effort. Perhaps I should be writing this review for the Baldwin catch. Curious, the Schlage is made in China; the Baldwin is made in Taiwan. Maybe this is why Taiwan is trying to get away.

Sticks out too far and is not height adjustable.
Poor design. Very disappointed in this roller latch. I purchased this as a replacement for roller ball catch on my French closet doors. But I discovered the roller latch extends too far and the SIDE of latch hits the strike plate that is mounted in the door jam. If this latch was height-adjustable I could make it work but sadly it is not. I found some SS ball latches that are height adjustable for 1/3 the price of this item and they work perfectly.
