Great selection of sizes!

I’ve used these bits quite a bit. So far, the ones I’ve repeatedly used remain sharp. I’m really happy with all the sizes. And the cost is so much better than buying them individually, which is what I’ve done in the past.

Comparison with Cortool

I bought both sets which were approximately the same price, about $50 at time of writing. (In the photos, Cortool is on the left, Irwin on the right) I didn’t want to pay more than double for Diablo / Freud as I use these fairly infrequently as a hobbyist, mostly weekend woodworking projects. I kept accumulating various bits of random sizes that I’d buy for a particular project, and lacked a complete set and wanted something organized and easy to grab, that I knew had the sizes I needed. I’ll maybe make a half dozen holes a year with each of these, on fairly pedestrian projects…. I’m not making heirlooms here. I couldn’t seem to find a review in which tge lower priced Forstner bit sets were compared, so i figured I’d write it. After browsing deep in the crevices of Amazon, I came up with this hitherto unknown to me Cortool brand which seemed to be reviewed positively. It’s hard to photograph, but the machining on the Irwin’s is simply lackluster. Some came out of the box with obvious imperfections that were clear to the naked eye. The cortool brand felt sharper, with better attention to detail and finish. The Irwins, by contrast, looked like they were dropped in a machine shop and allowed to roll all over the floor for a week. I didn’t have high expectations, and shouldn’t at this price point. I could nitpick, but for a full set of bits for around $50 at this quality, while the Diablos at Home Depot are $20+ a piece, it seems like I made out like a bandit. If I find that I need something with greater precision in the future then I’ll gross that bridge then, get a better set, and keep this one for backup. For now, I feel pretty good about keeping the Cortool around and sending back the Irwin.

Excellent material quality!!

Very good quality. Durable and they cut the wood with no problem. Have being using them almost daily on my builds and have no problem at all. Definitely will recommend.

Nice product

I really like these forstner bits. They come nice and sharp right out of the box. The case is a nice tough durable way to store them. I have never used an Irwin product before but I like the thick steel construction they are made of. One way I thought they could improve them is to add a couple of flat sides on the shank so they work better in a cordless drill. I would definitely recommend these to anyone who wants a solid constructed tool they could possibly get many good years of use out of.

Attractive price, mediocre quality

Out of the box these are disappointing. The product description indicates "ultra-sharp cutting edges feature optimized angles to cut more quickly and accurately through hard and soft woods". In my set many cutting edges feature burrs, crude grind, and significant chips and deformations. See pictures. Of course there are things to like about this set. - The price is hard to beat, especially considering sizes included up to 2". - With one exception, the guide points were relatively sharp and centered. - With one exception the grind was fairly symmetrical. - They are straight. - Comes with a sturdy blow-molded case. I'm struggling to justify keeping these. Drill bits are non-trivial to sharpen, and the assumption tends to be that when new, they are as sharp as they will ever be. I could probably improve these with a nail file and a little elbow grease. It's hard to imagine these bits cutting "quickly and accurately through hard woods". Not impressed.

Good if only used occasionally

If you use forstner bits often I would buy individual high quality bits as opposed to these. But if you occasionally use them these will do the trick. But don't use these in very hard wood or it becomes frustrating.

This is an imperial not metric set.

Should clearly state imperial measurement online the description. I now need to convert all sizes and label with metric equivalent. Seem OK, other than that, maybe a little unrefined however in terms of metal finish.

Not the Irwin quality im used to.

Have to day im very disappointed with the quality of this product, I buy Irwin because i trust brand and expect a good quality product. Looks like someone's shaped and sharpened the with a grinder. Unfortunately its going to cost me too much to return them so im stuck now. Not happy Irwin.

No me encantaron

Estas brocas son buenas, traen bastantes medidas y vienen en un estuche muy útil para poder encontrarlas siempre con facilidad y tenerlas organizadas. Sin embargo, no me encantaron, definitivamente esperaba más por el precio pagado. Funcionan bien en madera de pino y otras más blandas, en triplay, mdf, sin problema, Sin embargo, quise hacer unos agujeros en madera de cedro y quedaron a deber. Sí los hicieron, obviamente, pero hubo que imprimir mucha potencia y fuerza en el taladro. Las brocas tienen buen filo y no dejan rebaba.

No se acerca a lo que esperarias por este precio

Las variedad esta bien, tal vez por este precio no deberia exigir algo super filoso pero tampoco esperaba que el filo estuviera machucado, con muescas y una evidente rebaba. Francamente no las devolví solo porque no soy profesionista pero si tu lo eres... Amigo compra otra cosa.

Great set if you are willing to spend 20 mins sharpening them initially

I really like this set. Great holes. I noticed in the reviews and when I received this set that they needed sharpening. Im sure they would have cut decent holes regardless, but sharpening them will make a difference. That why they lose 1 star.
