Decent feeling tool for the price
Balance seemed to be off, I thought I may have been the pad so I got a new pad for it and still feels the same. I'll keep it around but won't be my go to one

Great quality
I have always wanted an inline sander. If I would have know how nice this sander was I would have gotten it many years ago. It is well built and operates great. Not disappointed at all. What a work saver.

It’s for sticky sandpaper
Does not say if it’s for sticky or Velcro sandpaper and needed a Velcro backing plate in the picture you can’t tell but says it’s universal it’s definitely for sticky and it’s a little heavy to the hand

Nice product
The media could not be loaded. Works great, just disappointing instructions and parts/accessories. The website is non existent. I brought a hook and loop pad and swapped out the original pad and it works great so far..Also make sure you have good size compressor to get the full power of this unit.

Great tool, consumables could be a little easier to change
I like this guy. Always wanted one but hadn’t pulled the trigger until recently. I’ve always used 4 1/2” flapper discs and 2” roloc discs to prep and finish metals. Though they’ve served me well, this unit actually brings some capabilities to the table the others didn’t have. The disc’s flexibility combined with the high RPM makes it king at fast and controlled metal removal be it metal shaping or surface prep. Discs don’t last as long but honestly, that’s a pro not a con because the sanding power ends up more consistent. This unit feels extremely durable and runs very smoothly. It feels like it should last a lifetime. If I were to pick an opportunity for improvement, it would be how you remove the discs. The nut (if you can call it that) must be loosened by a fork like tool while you use a rod to keep the spindle from spinning. Though it’s not difficult, it’s not easy making it not fast either. Since you switch out consumables more frequently on this tool, it quickly becomes something you’ll feel could be a little easier..

Excellent sander
Only comparison I have is to a HFreight one I bought that stopped working then I bought another and same issue. I bought the ingersol and immediately put it to use and it just purrs and is smooth. It’s sanding action and noise is like day and night to the HF brand. I should had bought it first. One downside though. No instructions of how to disassemble and put back together. I was hoping it had instructions becouse HF not and I took one apart and spent hours trying to get the gears timed to air valve with no success. So if you going to take one apart be sure to push the track all the way to front or back then gently remove side rails and gently tip the body away from track while placing a dot of fingernail polish on the gear tooth and gear track. Do this for all gears. Oh and yes the air valve gear will try to fall out as you tip the body so use a feeler gauge or thin metal strip to hold it up and paint it first. You do this and you may have a 50% chance if getting it back together. My experience is with HF. I have not had to disassemble ingersol yet and hopefully never will.

A inline Dryer is needed with this tool: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dtools&field-keywo
Product delivers in all respects. Some people have stated that the unit seems to freeze up or overheats which is wrong, the unit works off of dry air, with out any moisture. Any air system used that does not have a dryer inline will be plagued by intermittent use, as it looses power due to moisture droplets in the air freezing up and clogging the small internal airports internally This is what is required to get to ensure consistent nonstop usage: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dtools&field-keywords=air++compressor++inline++dryers Bottom line, if you use a inline dryer to accommodate the volume of air required, and oil as the instructions say, this tool works flawlessly................................ Disobey the instructions, and any tool will fail you.

Avoid self adhesive paper.
This is a great tool. I'm using it on a large curved panel (120 sq ft) and it's making it possible for me to sand this flat and shape the corners. Ordering the sandpaper rolls on Amazon for it is convenient, but unfortunately they are the self adhesive type. The adhesive is quite strong and they tend to tear the delicate neoprene pad when the paper is removed. I already have a bunch of these rolls of PSA and to be able to use the sticky paper I glued a rubber sheet to the neoprene pad. The rubber is cut from a bicycle inner tube and I used contact adhesive rubber cement to glue it down. The rubber doesn't get torn when removing the paper. This works but it would be much easier to use non sticky paper. Another review suggested the paper might shift. I don't believe that. The clamps are very strong.

Needs oil prior to use!
I was having the same issue as other people, tool stalling after a few minutes of continued use. After doing some research I found that they ship the tool with no oil, after adding oil (Ingersoll Rand 50P) it works AMAZING!! would highly recommend. 4 stars because no where in the information sent with the tool does it say it needs oil prior to use.

Sturdy pneumatic sanding tool.
The tool is well built. Requires a larger compressed air tank to provide continuous use. I used a small dual tank compressor however it proved too small requiring me to equently stop sanding frequently to allow the pressure to build. It was no fault of the tool. Great for blending and smoothing dips in the surface.

Ingersoll Rand 317G edge series high speed air sander silver
I've used this model for years and found them both dependable and easy to use. The reason I needed an air tool is because I carve stone and electric tool burn out so quickly because of the dust. This tool is of solid construction and being an air tool, it virtually keeps itself clean of debris in the air. It's comfortable to work with and continues to be dependable. Great tool.

No oscillation, only forward backward action
I have an older version of this tool that got dropped and bent that oscillates. This one does not. That said it does work pretty well for cutting down larger surfaces. It’s ok just not great. The price is good though so it’s still recommended

You can buy different bases
This sander is meant to be used with non adhesive sandpaper. If you want a base for PSA adhesive, search Amazon for 3M 05448. This is a replacement base for use with 3M Stikit papers. For Hookit (velcro) papers, search Amazon for 3M 05748.
