Perfect post-surgical sidekick!
I am very satisfied with this Hugo Mobility Adjustable Derby Handle Cane. I had total hip replacement in September 2015. At first I needed the cane to help me walk and get up stairs. Now, I walk well, but am using it outdoors to prevent a fall. Once I get to 12 weeks post surgery, I will no longer need the cane at all, and I have to say I might actually miss it. Here are some things I like about it: It is incredibly light weight while also being very sturdy (it supports up to a 300-lb. user); it is easy to adjust and included an adjustment that suits my 5' 11" height; the cap at the bottom is not super wide (cane will not stand on its own), but has enough surface area that it grips the ground well (except on ice and snow), and with enough flexibility to follow through and maintain contact with the ground as I stride; the handle has a nice shape that makes for a good grip, with a slight rise in the back and front to keep your hand in place (I wear a size 7 to 8 female glove and find this handle plenty roomy), and with a soft, flexible portion in the middle that is comfortable and prevents fatigue; there is a strap that can be put around your wrist to prevent dropping the cane and to hang it on a coat hook when not in use. Since I live in Juneau, Alaska, I was hoping to be able to use this cane during my full 12-week precautionary period on any kind of surface, but - as I mentioned previously - the cane did not seem quite as stable on ice or in slush. I did not deduct my rating, however, because I think the cane serves it's purpose in most circumstances, for a variety of user sizes and heights, and is comfortable to use. I will be traveling soon, and will appreciate the adjustability and lightness of this cane when downsizing it for my carry-on. If I was in a position to have to use a cane indefinitely, I would most likely look for a cap to buy with spikes on it, or - if none was available - would buy a regular one and screw little screws through from the inside, maybe with a round metal plate inside to stabilize the screws and protect the cap from splitting. Because we have had such a warm winter thus far and my need for the cane is almost over, I did not go to the trouble of spiking the tip; instead, I used one of my spiked hiking poles when it got icy for a couple days. The handle is not near as comfortable, but it worked. I can't think of anything else to say, except to let you, the reader, know that I paid for this cane on Amazon - I was not given the cane or paid for my opinion.

Not what they once where. :-( "BUT...."
The first time I purchased a Hugo Mobility cane it was instant satisfaction. It was made heavy duty, and the ergonomic handle was a dream come true. 2013 was the first time I bought one, I loved it so much I had to buy another one in 2016 when my first one started to show signs of heavy use. Once again a perfect cane for a big guy like me could ask for. 2019 came around and my second cane was finally showing signs of old age. Seeing as how the Hugo cane never failed me in the past, I figured I should buy another one. At first I loved the new handle design, I thought it looked cool and it added more grip. I did notice that the cane felt a little lighter but I thought; "It'll be ok Hugo never let down before. Literally...." Until I started to notice the flaws. The fastener in the center of the cane kept coming loose all on it's own, just from normal use. And every time I attempted to fasten it back in place it wouldn't tighten. I would keep turning and turning and the thing just wouldn't work. So I took a closer look and noticed the threads were coming apart. I don't know if Hugo Mobility is under new management or if Hugo Mobility just got greedy and wanted to cut corners on there product. LAAAAAAAAME. BUUUUUUT... I do have to admit the handle is still a greate design, it fits in my hand perfectly. No other cane offers this level of comfort. It aslo provide exelent stability. Especially for a HUGE guy like me. Pros: Exellent ergonomic handle. Strong and stable support. Perfect height adjustment options. (Be you tall or short) Cons: Possible poor craftsmenship. 50/50 chance The foot is STILL of EXTREMELY poor quality. (But buying a new foot isn't hard, or expensive.) The STUPID logo can't be wiped away easily anymore.

Great, but not perfect.
This is a nice cane, with two exceptions. I was looking for a black adjustable dress cane. This cane met my criteria except for the two large (1x 3 1/2) permanent white Hugo symbols/labels. Sorta takes away from its dress appearance. Prefer an optional removable sticker. I know it's a free form of marketing/advertizing, but it should be my choice. Hugo is also on the handle, which should be adequate and acceptable to the purchaser, as it would be with me. The top side of the handle is a soft medium grey putty color material, which is quiet comfortable. I prefer the cushioning material be dark grey or black. I believe it will soil/discolor over a period of time and would not be cleanable. Other than these two minor items, it is a great product. I will definitely use it, but will continue my search for a nice black dress cane. May get a wood cane and cut to size. Update..........Since writing this review I have read most other reviews. It seams I'm not the only one annoyed by the huge logo labeling......NEWS FLASH HUGO......scrap the advertisement labels! Update..........One reviewer said that Naptha easily removed the logo. Hugo must have read that review because Naptha no longer works. Would like other suggestions, short of a grinder. Hugo should let their product speak for itself. If asked, I would gladly tell anyone about the cane and where to buy one. Hugo needs to listen to its customers and drop the logo, or at least use a removable label. Update.....fingernail polish remover (acetone) will easily remove the Logo. Wipe on....Wipe off....Gone..

Potentially dangerous design flaw
Was coming down a long flight of cement stairs after hip replacement surgery...I put a fair bit of weight(I’m 225lbs)on the back of the handle...it split the shaft(see picture) and I could have easily gone for a tumble...I’ve Jerry rigged it with a hose clamp as I’m out of the country...this product could cause serious injury if not fixed by the manufacturer

Excellent for the price
Picked this up to help my grandmother-in-law off a walker after a hospital visit. I didn't actually expect her to use it as a cane, but instead as a poking stick to display her displeasure at people within poking distance. Instead, she actually uses it. And it hasn't collapsed under her weight (which isn't much) and the handle, etc., is holding up very nicely. I check it periodically to ensure that nothing is getting bent out and the mechanism is holding up. So far so good. I don't know if I would trust it with someone significantly heavier than 'average' but for the occasional use it sees, its far better than the grotesquely overprice canes from medical supply stores. And she uses it for poking her displeasure.

Very comfortable, solid sturdy and well made cane, without reflective strap.
It’s a very sturdy cane with nothing that rattles or make noise .The grip with soft rubber fits the hand very well, very comfortable. The end of cane is made with rubber and helps with sticking to surfaces . Will not slip or slide, but expect to replace it sometime with use. They state it comes with a reflective strap but mine didn’t , it was just a regular black strap. I would give it 5 stars but it didn’t come with reflective strap as advertised.

Sturdy and light
The best feature of this cane is the bottom grip. It is rubber and makes the cane sturdy on snow and ice. It is adjustable and makes no "clicking" sound when you walk as the cheaper canes do.
